So, this game is pretty solid, in all honesty. The writing is great, and the atmosphere created is outstanding.

Now the one question I want to ask is this: Will one be able to complete the game, i.e, finish the mission/quest you were sent to do, without being affected by madness, taint, mutation or depravity? I'd like to see that be done, as well as all the other stuff.

Well done @GateKeeper, for writing such an awesome story. I'd rather not see this fall into abandonment, as so many others have.

P.S: @TCMS Can someone please update the OP? It is no longer v.83, but v.89.

At this point, the main narrative is about 90% complete, with LOTS of additional content planned for after that. Once the main story is complete, there will be ways to complete the game without serious change to the protagonist.

Been working on this for the better part of three years now, and production is only picking up its pace. Keep watching it, I have no intention of abandoning it.

As for updating the thread. I have no control over that. I have however been thinking about starting a new thread (Since I can finally start threads now!) for the game so I can keep it up to date.

I posted a thread for Inheritance yesterday, but it was pulled down for some reason. I sent out a couple of inquiries, but haven't hear why it happened yet. No idea what I might have done wrong. On a side note, I'm going to refrain from starting my own thread for this game until after I know what happened.

In the meantime, here's a new build of Wanton Cove!

\

Changelog .90:

-The usual minor fixes. Dropped everything up to the arrival in Wanton Cove into a spell/grammar checker and made some fixes/adjustments where needed. Also worked through everything but the cheat menu associated with the sidebar. Elsewhere in the story, if I saw it, it got fixed.

-Added a new cheat option for Mutation that does +/-2 and can serve to showcase the new set of TF events related to Mutation.

-Adjusted combat difficulty to make it a little more difficult.

-Unique fight added to the waterfront on day 7. This fight must be triggered before the related enemy starts to appear randomly in the game.

-New enemy added to the game.

-New Enemy scenes added to Forest. 1/6 chance that if there's a fight, it will be this enemy.

-New Enemy scenes added to Main Street. 1/5 chance that if there's a fight, it will be this enemy.

-New Enemy scenes added to the bad part of town. 1/5 chance that if there's a fight, it will be this enemy.

-New Enemy scenes added to the waterfront. 1/3 chance that if there is a fight, it will be this enemy.

-New loss scenes for combat with new enemy.

-Wrote and added new Mutation based Transformation scenes

-New NPC: Lady Anne, has been added to the game. She is not complete yet (She is playable to a point), but the framework has been added to allow for future content to be added.

-Completely rebuilt the code for fight intros. Not only should this fix the combat bugs that were present, but this should also make it easier to work with this code in the future.

-Added about 27k words of new content to the game. This brings the total game size up to about 267k words. Please note that more than half of this new content is tied up in the new TF sequences and fight loss scenes that are largely repeated between more than one location (Some minor rewrites between locations.)

What are the differences between patreon and public build? :)
Not much. The Public build includes all of the same content as the Patreon build does. The difference is that the Patreon build includes a Cheat Menu in the game that allows you to adjust stats (Add or subtract character stats. Add money, Add or subtract Taint/Mutation/Madness/Depravity, restore your virginity, etc). Basically, it allows the player to explore the game's full scope of content with a minimum of effort.

If one wanted to, as this game is built in TWINE, they could also use TwineHacker.

This is true, and I'm sure some people do exactly that. Thankfully for me, there are a lot of good people who are more honest about it than that, which allows me to make my living off of this.

You're welcome! I figure that I'm trying to provide a quality product, and while bugs aren't always caught during testing, I CAN make an effort to get them fixed quickly when reported. I always try to plan game releases at times when I know I'll have free time the following day. Gives everyone time to report bugs, and in turn I can usually get fixes in place fairly quickly.

@GateKeeper I found a bug, on .90b. The first time combat appeared, this error message appeared:
----------
Error: <<if>>: bad conditional expression in <<if>> clause: Unexpected token >=
----------
The mouse-over included this: <<if $DeepFight is "Played" && $random is gte 6>>

Thank you for the report. Looks like I must have missed something.

Any chance you remember where the fight was taking place? If I have a location, then I have 3-4 bits of code instead of about 20. ;) Should have time tomorrow to look into this.

Eoin just pointed this out to me, this does look interesting.
In that case, Eoin, thank you for pointing the game out to Gomly1980!

Gomly1980, I sincerely hope that you enjoy the game! There's a lot of content in the game, more than 260k words at least count. Stats affect how many scenes play out, and there is more than one way to approach some problems in the game. Have fun!

I was in the run down part of town, heading into the woods/forest, if that would help.

I love things like this but there aren't nearly enough good ones.

I got into Corruption of Champions and Trials in Tainted Space (and spent far too many hours in them) but then hit a wall.

The idea of a Lovecraft based game appeals to me. People tend to skirt around that style but never probe too far into it considering how dark it can be. As I said to Eoin in another thread, I genuinely appreciate anyone that can set a good scene with words and tell an interesting story.

One of the best things with things like this is no picture or art can do justice to what a well penned scene and the imagination can do.

You'd be amazed how many people told me early on that you can't mix horror and erotica. Over time however, I've managed to win over many of the critics.

I'm a fan of art in text based games, but I approach every game from the mindset of a writer. I figure that if you pull all the art, and all the porn out of the story, then it should still be a good story. Those things can make a good story great, but but no amount of art and sex can make a story good by themselves.

I've always liked Corruption of Champions (Been a fan of it since it was called "Unnamed Text Game" or something like that.) but always felt like it could be a lot more. Trials in Tainted Space is fun as well, but CoC was always my preference of the two. If I'm being honest with myself, I grew up on the old Choose Your Own Adventure books (And own a small mountain of them) so when I started writing regularly a few years ago, that's the format I naturally gravitated towards. That was also around the time that I stumbled across CoC, which in turn inspired me to look at ways to use my writing in a game format. I've been very pleased with how well received my work is by most of the people who have tried it.

One thing I like about Fenexo and CoC/TiTS is how he builds his characters. Gives them all a personality and there are a lot of characters so that's not easy. I know it's not him alone though.

I'd never say never, i've seen some stories and plots work where they really shouldn't. It's not really the theme that makes the story work more how the writer does it.

Don't get me wrong, i'm certainly not against art in text based games I just like how scenes are set in words more if that makes any sense.

I know what you mean about the sex though. I don't think TiTS would work as well as it does without the sex, that seems to set the scene for a lot of the characters there but CoC has a lot more substance to it on the whole.

That is very true. I'm not trying to cut Fenoxo short by any stretch of the immagination. They're a top notch writer, and they create some exceptional settings. There's a good reason that he's well known in the adult interactive fiction community. I strongly suspect that he has inspired many more than just myself to try their hand at creating text based games, and we all owe him a heartfelt thank you for it. And yes, you are right, it does seem that he works with several other people much of the time.

The Allure of Wanton Cove is my project, I have a few people who have helped with coding and testing, and have a commissioned artist doing work on that end, but the writing (For good or bad) is all me on that one. That said, the next project I'm gearing up named "Inheritance" involves a group of people. At present, I have six other people I'm working closely with on that one, two of those are fellow writers, one is a coder, and we've brought three artists into the fold. The plan is to remain text heavy like my previous works, but supplement it with art (Likely one image per page for the most part.)

A lesson I took to heart when I took writing classes back in high school was "Paint a picture with your words." Words and imagination will add depth to a setting that art is not always able to convey.

One of the things I've always loved about Fenoxo's work is that his characters are interesting and unique. They have flaws and their own paths through life. A lot of authors (And game makers) seem to forget that EVERY person you introduce is an individual, with their own hopes, flaws, dreams and stories, even if you never explore those things in detail within their story.

While Fenoxo's work does hinge on sex to make it work to a large degree, he clearly puts a lot of love into the setting as well. As a result, its not just fap material, you find yourself enjoying the setting too.

Without a doubt, i'm terrible at explaining myself properly.

What I meant was a lot of the characters in TiTS are heavily sex based so removing the sex would take a lot of depth out of it.

Sera doesn't "flesh out" until she's breeding with you, Penny gets more plot the more the sex goes on and "bimbo's" her up, Syri starts out by railing your arse until she opens up and things like that.

While the setting is there and some of the characters (Rhea, Anno, Seandra, Fisi and Paige being some of my favourites in that particular game and Ursa in CoC) a lot of it is heavily based on the sex.

One of my favourite scenes in TiTS involves giving birth to giant spider Water Princess things. That scene where you visit them is fantastically written.

The Allure of Wanton Cove is my project, I have a few people who have helped with coding and testing, and have a commissioned artist doing work on that end, but the writing (For good or bad) is all me on that one. Anyone with an ounce of passion about what they do that has won over as many as you seem to have done with a theme people didn't think would work has obviously done something very right which is why i'm genuinely looking forward to trying it out.

One of the reasons I enjoy this site and others like it is not just for the porn. I don't have any artistic talent whatsoever so interactive porn like this with good stories, art and characters is what keeps me playing them.

I appreciate talent regardless of the medium.
