So they renamed some bones to things like "spine", which would make you think they did it to be more compatible with game engines like Unreal. But then the vertices/triangles are DOUBLED lolol wtf?

And so since this is just a single base character for both male and female, does that mean that it'll have to load *all* of the morphs when you bring it into a scene? God that's going to take an absolute eternity even for a beefy PC once your morph library is big.

Also the hair that comes with the starter essentials is dForce. I'm sure people who are brand new to Daz will have noooo problems with it... /s

Can someone explain what the actual point of G9 is? Like I'm serious - am I just missing something? Someone try to sell me on it please.

I had my first go with G9, and I'm not impressed. Not only did they double the mesh size, there's no loops around the navel and nipples anymore, so there's forcing us to render at least SubD 3 just to make a nude figure look not-terrible. This isn't even a unified mesh thing, women and men both have those bits. I'm not seeing the logic here.

I don't think I'll get a lot of use out of this.

Yeah I want my full fledged bump maps and top coat fresnel brick back.

"8K HD Materials" ? Turns out it's still good-old 4K JPG textures (from daz store) :p

Some of those diffuse textures were saved at 90-93% quality level, that's a bit of a shame, especially on lossy formats...
I read that on the Daz forum. So all the textures are 4k except for one big 8k normal map? That was saved in JPG format instead of TIF?

Based on the comments about missing morphs and stuff, I guess this thing was intended to be released with Daz Studio 5, but they rushed it out the door for preorders to make back the money they lost off their crypto scams.

All base torso and head normals (except one 8K head) are 4K JPG too (didn't check the other parts). But base's skin details are 8K.
So yes there is 8K textures, but except 8K skin details it's all 4K (like 8.1 actually) ... :ROFLMAO: I was a little bit disappointed.

Disclaimer: bought the official packages from the store.
Yeah, G9 sounds like a fucking rush job. One 8K map out of two dozen? I suspect they made them all in 8k and shrank them in a hurry after complaints. Gotta squeeze their userbase for money.

I don't care much for 8k diffuse/albedo as long as pixel density fit (especially using high translucency).

The skin details normals look really nice actually, this isn't a single tiled texture with masks anymore, but a full body map :)

Otherwise some 8/8.1 model does still look amazing like these : / / .
The issue regarding these models and many other ones at the store is that, in their advertisement, they use a good amount of photoshop or similar programs.

Of course an experienced Daz user knows postprocess is a very important part for a unique final result, but still, to me, it feels dishonest the way the store works until now*. One of the main reasons I just moved from Daz to other 3D activities.

Nevertheless, regarding the issue about if textures are 1K, 2K, 4K or 8K... IMHO, since G3 days the big secret for achieving great final results, it's been rendering in layers and do postpo in each of them. Maybe one of the most significative Daz's features.

*For example, selling a very pale skin, but using promo pictures with a color you can only achieve through postpo.

Rendering in layers looks terrible, though. The layers always have an ugly outline around them. Unless you have some kind of trick to get rid of that (besides "just paint it out")?

This is definitely exciting for the future, I think right away it looks stunning in terms of just how sharp it is and the asymmetrical features adds a definite layer of realism

I'm quite the novice on Daz3D I only started working in it this year, and at the start I looked what model version I wanted to base my game renders in and ended up picking G8 as it has the most ready-to-use assets all with iray. I've even avoided using G8.1 models as there are less assets for these (yes I know you can transfer them but again - noob here, that is a layer of challenge on top of learning Daz3D from scratch that I don't need haha!)

G8 was released around 2017 if I'm not mistaken and the amount of content available for it is outstanding. Pretty much anything you think "hey I need this for my scene" and even today new content for G8 is being released every day

So I do think it will take a few years before G9 gets used a lot. I do wonder though which it will impact most, will most artists just start making G9 now and what will we see less assets being made going forward? Will it be less G8 assets or less G8.1 assets or both?

If you are like me and unskilled with transferring assets to G8.1 from G8 there aren't really enough ready to use assets for G8.1 for every scene you'd want to make, be it hair styles you find you need, genitals/genital effects, or clothing I've noticed it can be hard to find certain stuff for G8.1 if you don't want to transfer it from G8 manually

Again - I'm an utter noob at Daz though and these are my perspective on it all from a beginner point of view and someone who has less than a year's experience on Daz3D

Well, all I can speak is from my own style and experience, but, as I said, layers just give you the chance to apply specific postpo treatments to specific areas (like skin and hair totally need different solutions, IMHO).

About your question, frankly I don't remember anymore the specific solution to that, but I thik it was something like at layer 0 putting the whole rendered picture so, it doesn't matter how you arrange other layers after that, those subtle lines will get covered properly.

Something like that. It's been too long ago since I dedicated my time to Daz rendering (G8.1 was not even out yet...).

I've played around a little with it. Overall I have to say I'm not impressed. We will see if that changes once we start getting some G8 converters going on.

Changing breast size typically comes with the official body morphs product, not the base figure. You'd think they'd have that available at launch, but like I said this is a shitshow rushed out the door to make money on preorders. It technically is available -- if you want to spend $10,000US.

I think you can use just a 3th party equivalent and don't need to rely on DAZ.
Unless you want the original.
I use mainly EJ and SY.

Many third party morphs/characters are just built-off the official Daz morphs. So they're important to have anyway.

And there aren't any third-party morphs for Genesis 9 yet. Especially not Emma & Jordi since they're not even PAs and didn't have access to G9 while it's in beta.

(I say that, but G9 is clearly still in beta.)
