I try to avoid long-term penalties like the fetishes and addictions in the mod. If a player loses a fight with permanent consequences, a lot of players will probably quit and reload. I want to encourage players to roll with their losses to keep the game flowing.
Sorry, I wasn't clear about what I meant: I agree wholeheartedly that the addiction system is detrimental to play and I wouldn't want to have you add long-term penalties. I'm on the same page with you there.
If the scope is limited to the night, then that's doable from both a gameplay and implementation standpoint. However, to pay that off in a satisfying way, I'd need to add a bunch of extra writing to each character. I'm not sure how much value that adds for the work involved, but I'll keep it in mind when planning future writing commissions.
Out of curiosity, have you come up with a character direction for Samantha? I know you mentioned some time ago that you were stumped in that regard and was wondering if that had changed.
Yes, the author of that scene, WT Cash, suggested an interpretation of Samantha as a smart professional, with a solid plan for her financial future. I really liked this sort of character for her. It gives her a lot more depth than is visible in her night scenes. It also creates an interesting relationship between her and the player. The player, a freshman in college with no real responsibilities, now has something to prove to the mature, worldly woman. That's definitely something I can work with.

Yeah, at some point. However, a recent poll indicated that a strong majority of my players want writing commissions focused on night scenes instead of daytime scenes. That's made me rethink a lot of my writing plans.

I wouldn't write off any work you've already done or have fully fleshed out outlines or idea's for the daytime scenes. I like both day and night scenes. You should also consider your muse. I've seen creators try to cater to his/her patreons and run out of steam because that wasn't the way he envisioned the game, scenes, etc.
Agreed, there isn't much progression in night time events so it starts to feel like a grind(though I love the idea and think it's the base of the game). Sometimes I want to skip the night time, because the day time events are random and take longer to get through. Progression doesn't feel even between the two, at least imo
