Welcome to game design!

Let's try a thought experiment.

Satan shows up and says:
"For every game that you name that you have read, understood, and remember 100% of all tutorials and instructions I will give you One Million Dollars. However, if you name a game where you have skipped, misunderstood, or forgotten any part of the tutorial or instructions, I take one of your limbs.
Would you like to play?"

Its okay but UI is bad. You need to breed a ton of kids to send off to die. So you fuck your breeders every day, since it speeds it up, but you need 2 clicks on different spots to get to breeding chamber (with a fade to black/fade in), then select breeder, select "yes, im actually here to fuck and not to cancel" and afterwards you are back in captains room to repeat for the other breeder.
Also the combat system is pure garbage, throw units against random enemies to randomly lose or win battle.

Oh and i ended up softlocking myself by running out of money, thus being unable to buy more soldiers/miners to get money, and on new game, second breeder was instantly unlocked and i never got the worker, so i was unable to repair armory.

So to sum it up: Idea for porngame is good, AI art okayish, current state of game shit due to bugs and bad game mechanics

That's a really dick move for a game that launched yesterday... congratulations.

I guess I'll just stop posting here overall. Whoever wants to keep track with the project follow me on itch and patreon.
Right. I really didn't want to get involved in this stupid debacle. So here we go.

THIS IS A FUCKING PIRATE SITE, EVERYTHING HERE IS PIRATED, INCLUDING CODES. You CANNOT avoid this. Punishing yourself and others because of something that was bound to happen, is self-destructive and foolish. Stop getting upset over something that had an obvious result of your Paywalling Extra Content...now that i am talking about that, let's get to that.

YOU ARE Paywalling Content, even if it's just some extra content. Paywall quite literally means you are blocking access to ANY FORMS of Content, no matter what, behind a Wall which is required Money to access. No one likes this. You're just being petulant and childish. It would make more sense if you Paywalled a version of a game that would get Public after a month. A reasonable decision. But nay. You decided to do something quite similar to MTX (microtransaction) which no one likes.

Let's stop acting like an idiot here. You're on a Pirate Site, gaining free advertisement, and potential Audiences/Customers, through using this site and potentially others that YOU have FREE ACCESS to. You see where i am going with this? This is net-positive for you. The codes? Your fault. Should've avoided Paywall Content like a plague.

And instead of relying entirely on AI Art. Perhaps use it as a Tool. Modify the Art from the AI, personalize it, make it unique. Make it yours. And people will be more interested. The Kinks/Fetishes shouldn't be the sole selling point, nor a Story that an AI could write in a minute. Make something that you can proudly say "I put in time, effort and money in this". Right now. This is nothing more than a conceptual project, with far too many issues, because you had no idea what the fuck you were doing and you decided to monetize it through Subscription, despite that you have almost NOTHING to show for.

Take all this to heart. And rise above this miserable state you've put yourself in. Convince me to come to your Patreon and Itch.io page and to give you my Time and my Money. Don't do the opposite, giving me reasons to not come and support you and your projects.

I hope this will be helpful to you. Even if this is harsh truth and critique. Take care. I am out of this shitshow.

When I started I had no idea there were such limitations on the engine. I think it might be related how ren'py handles lists, since all issues seem to be related with screens and lists. I haven't really changed anything on the save part of ren'py, so the problem might be how it handles states of such things. I'm still trying to figure it out, there has to be a work around for it
Might wanna take a look and see if you're somehow assigning to 'persistent' variables ( ) - these are built for maintaining states for the whole game, rather then specific 'points in the game' (they last across saves, meaning if they're assigned then loading back is not going to reset them).

Also, you mentioned you were doing a bunch of the code straight in Python. Awesome language, but the way you're saving things in Python might not be getting recognized by RenPy for the purpose of attaching it to save data. To be on the safe side you may wanna define your variables in python (checking out default, define, global, init..) and then pulling them into python scripts just for the purpose of logic - then dumping the outcomes back into the regular variables. Then, for better or worse, you'll know how Ren'Py's save system will handle these interactions with its built in systems

Yeah, this is the biggest PIRATE forum.. all you can do just aware that.
Maybe u should add it that on the DLC or something.. codes is really vulnerable that everyone can tell it by just type it.. i have advice, maybe u can just rename that codes everytime people had it.. like some expire times.. so just people who support you that will knew that codes.. just my opionion, don't hear it if u don't like it..

AI could write in a minute? Mate, you clearly have no idea how AI works, or how hard it is to make a video out of it and that's why rarely you see any videos made by it. You have no idea of the hours I put in on this. Miserable state? Miserable state would be to continue and indulge opinions like yours, after sacrificing countless hours and nights after my real day to day job and to get in that extra line of code and test and learn new things in order to have something somewhat delivered, even if it meant pulling one nighters.

I was excited to share my project and vision, even if it's a pirate site I think there is something like reasonable things like at least let a project get off the ground. I'm not a AAA studio or even an stablished developer. In the beginning of the project I just wanted feedback and some passionate people about it and not this, as you put it shit show.

You are wrong, you assume I need this, I don't. I wanted to share a game that I had a passion to do and see if people were interested on it. In fact I didn't even imagined to have this many attention.

I don't need your high and mighty take on this. Every gam takes time and effort and if what it's bringing me is anger and frustration instead of completion and realization, I don't need it.

And again with the AI point, go inform yourself. If everything is so easy I don't know why I rarely see anything worthwhile to play.

I for one recognize the obvious time that went into this, so in advance, FWIW, I'd like to tip my hat to you. For the code leak, take it as a lesson learned, and move forward. In the grand scope of things, my guess is it probably wasn't the lion's share of where time was spent on the game. If this project is dear to you, keep at it. You'll learn and get better. Focus on fixing bugs and perhaps people will forgive in time. Ask other developers what strategy they use to handle patreon exclusive content, and choose one.

Can't please everyone. While this has been a rocky-ish start, plenty of people have shown interest and have said they like the potential and are waiting for this to mature a bit, so this, I hope, should give you some motivation to keep at it.

Godspeed.

Very bare bones at this point. Not a problem though. Ren'Py is notoriously tedious and unforgiving. It is best to flesh out the game play dynamics early on than to try to integrate them later and potentially break something. Take your time, and don't listen to all the nay sayers. This is your game. Not theirs. Good luck to you.

As far as the codes go /paywall:
People are going to leak your game. Even if they get it off patreon, etc. It is the nature of the beast. The good thing is that if you do put out quality, people will still support you and your game quest. It may not seem like it, but check out games like summertime sage, Being a DIK, Man of the house, Trials in Tainted Space, etc. They did not start off raking in the dough. If they gave up in the beginning, they would not be where they are now. The best thing is to take the free ideas people give you here. Us the ones you like, and discard the ones you don't.

Would be nice but not necessary:
A quest log
"Repopulate" scenes happen very fast. Potentially loop, and/or slow down.
image (scene name) animated:
"image_1.png"
pause 0.1
"image_2.png"
pause 0.3
"image_3.png"
pause 0.2
repeat

Btw (if you're still checking these threads), totally fine to do some extra content for Patreon or whatever. Plenty of devs do, there's zero wrong with that. But yea, codes tend to be pase (cracking is super easy, codes get leaked easily). The most common thing I've seen on here that seems to be successful is having Patreon-only early releases (so that each iteration there's a Public release 2.0 and a Patreon release 3.0 or something like that) with the reward being 'getting there first', or a Patreon / Itch.to release that has a bit of extra (non game-gating) content and a Public release on here.

The first one is great because it lets people support you when they're able to (finances fluctuate, and even for those that are stable financially there are a lot of devs to support so they'll regularly subscribe for a month to one, then cancel and subscribe to another, and just keep going, 'cause otherwise they'd be supporting all the top-scoring long-history devs only and new devs - like you - would never get into the running). By having a (delayed) Public release it keeps excitement going for a (full-content) title, keeps people checking in for updates, and then folk can drop into Patreon/Itch when they're able.

The second one sounds like what would appeal to you more. Its essentially what you were doing with codes, but without codes (which yea, get leaked within days of posting, that's been an issue with codes and keys since the 90s). And its fine, just means you have to maintain two files. I haven't generally seen folk on here leak a private build if a public one was availalbe with most of the content - which isn't to say it never happens, or it doesn't happen elsewhere. But its not common. The dangerous thing with that (and keys) is that folk will often not support every version. There are a lot of games to play and so even if I wanted to I couldn't play all the releases on day-zero. Plus folk like to give releases time to build up content instead of downloading and playing 5 extra frames at a time. So the problem becomes that if a private-release has some content that's not in the public you have to be very careful that it doesn't destabilize the public-release next-version. For example, one of the games on here has a 'choice' for a scene where you can see two possible scenes, and a third (image and a bit of text) are patreon only. That's fine because all three of them have essentially the same outcome (the same variable is set) and the specifics never come up again. Your design though (locking a breeder or something away) would risk someone getting patreon-1.4 (w/ that unlocked breeder), then downloading public-1.8, and the game locks up because it tries to display the invalid breeder. So it will be a headache for you to manage that in a stable fashion.

(Oh, and there's the third path, trying to design for Steam, and using all these non-Steam releases as free beta-testers. But that's very risky with AI art because the laws around AI art are currently in flux, and not even consistent between countries / regions, so you could find yourself in a bad place doing that on such a public platform. I think, for example, that there are some US regions that require you to specify that an image is AI generated unless it has... I forget what % extra 'personal' effort done after the image was created, or how they tell)

Anyway, just stuff to think about. Don't worry too much about the hate-posts, sorry about that. Look on the bright side, if this was an NTR game you'd already have half-a-dozen pages about how that's terrible and horrible and NTR once kicked someone's cat or something. ;) I suggest that if you stick around you just don't enage those kinds of posts / posts that aren't constructive. That's never gone well for anyone, from a new dev to a top celebrity. Good luck!

Just curious, what would be the website to create AI images like these? Playing this game gave me some ideas on what other images I would like to have just for myself..

See, that's technically a game, and Satan's probably come up with the worst tutorial ever for it.
