So French Maid won, eh? Well, it's no Cavewoman or Toga, but it's better than nothing.

Patreon private post:

When we first started monthly builds our idea was to create value for all of you. We felt the need to give you something month over month. We continued with our monthly builds and haven't missed a single update (outside holidays) even in the face of sickness, and set backs we showed our work. Recently we have been seeing a trend in our development, and this trend is mirrored in the support we have been getting. What is happening is we have a very strong build, followed by one or two months of weak builds (*community, and our sentiment of the builds). The weak builds are creating a negative image for a month or two, and people only see 4 strong builds a year! The weak builds are due to the difficulty and time required to add new content to the game due to its size (content is literally ready to go and be implemented). In addition we have a couple periods of time during a month in which we bug test/housekeeping (hd pack). What happens is that during the course of a month we literally use 1.5 weeks to non content adding development. We have also been seeing a growing trend in other developers leaving the monthly model behind and moving to new and improved workflows.

What we are proposing is that we move towards bi-monthly builds. So for example, the next build will release January 31'st and then the following build will be March 31'st. We then gain an additional 1.5-2 weeks of time for content addition. An additional benefit is instead of getting 4 strong builds a year we can delivery 6 strong builds of SU.

I also want to remind you that there is another project currently in development for Newgrounds that will have a Patreon exclusive build. We are hoping to release upwards of two of these this year! Also we will be running more polls and tournaments for content addition to SU and to our Newgrounds games. So we shouldn't have any lulls in activity while waiting for the next build to come out. So with 6 SU builds a year, and 2 potential Newgrounds games, we have 7-8 months where builds come out.

We want to hear what you have to say. Please Vote below.

Hey Smoke, hope all is going well.

This option wasn't on your poll, but if you go bi-monthly with your builds, would you also consider collecting on Patreon when a build becomes available instead of monthly? Or, instead of being a $5 donor to get a link to SU, how about $3 patrons get a link if you are continuing to charge monthy? Just some thoughts to add...

Im pretty sure they put that on the back burner. I think that they only made that game when SU got slapped with a DMCA violation. Maybe they will continue it once they finish SU?

We most likely will remain at the same pledge levels and allow people to just move up or down as they please. With that being said we don't sell you a build per month, what your pledge does is help continue development. So if you are pledging for both months you are actually helping the active development. I feel we have built up enough good faith (never missed a monthly update since we started) to show we can deliver on this new workflow.

well... i tried replaying the prison scene and it's bugged, i can't find poison ivy anywhere, what i think it happened is that if you choose chestchire as your wenchwomen and you go into jail, you're fucked, because the shower scene doesn't appear anywhere and once you talk with poison ivy more than 3 times you can't see her again.
This won't let you leave prison and it fucks up your save because everytime i try to reload my save i get the prison scene

How about a 3rd option. DarkCookie over at Summertime Saga had a great idea. He put up a progress barchart showing the development stages of the next update. Instead of trying to rush things to make a deadline, they identify what the next update will be and then update the progress chart 3 or 4 times a week. Additionally, they identify what the 2nd & 3rd updates will be next. He lets the Patrons vote but you don't really need to do that. This won't satisfy everyone, but it seems that the fans are a lot happier, (or at least not in the dark so much, which just makes them cranky and looking for someone to blame, . . .) and it gives the development team a lot more control over the releases instead of alternating strong & weak updates.

I think you guys got the right idea. If you need more time to be able to meet the standards, and expectations of your supporters, then go for it. The only problem I can see arising from this is if after that long gap of development, people don't get the content they want. I think a great idea would be to announce the contents of the upcoming updates, and even open it up for a vote. That way supporters can have a say in who, and what they want to see more of. You're putting more power/control into your backers hands, ergo minimizing the potential discontent with each update. Yes, not everyone will be happy with certain updates, but at least you know a majority of your fanbase will be. That can also give you a general idea of where to go next with runner ups in the polls you use.

I think taking some extra time to make larger more complete updates is a good idea. But I don't think you can expect the same level of consistent patronage month to month. I understand patreon is about supporting developers and artists, but a lot of people view it more transactionally. I think if you go to a bi-monthly release schedule but continue billing on a monthly basis you will lose patrons in the off months. You have built up a level of trust which has helped you to gain loyal patrons, but I dont know that that loyalty would extend throughout your fanbase.

Perhaps you've taken potential dips into account already, either way I think anything that leads to a better product is the best choice. Although, it doesn't really affect me one way or the other (I only pledge a few months a year) I think you should go with whatever will allow you to make the best game you can.
