*Harem owners should be systematically ntr-ed in every game by a guy/ bunch of guys that best him in every posible way.

*One of the harem girls should go yandere once she finds out she's just another cow in his herd, nothing special to the MC, and slit his throat as he sleeps, or start killing the other girls one by one in the most gruesome ways before the MC realizes she's the killer and is left alone with her. Then she should go full Domme and perma-cage his cock so he can't cheat on her anymore.

* The "suddenly bi" girls in the harem should discover they like women better than men, and cuck the Mc for a long time before eloping together, leaving his sorry, power-hungry ass alone.

*If the guy is poly, his women should have the right to be poly too, and find their own male and female partners wherever they want, not just be enslaved to the MC's allmighty cock.

*The men MC tries to steal women from should be allowed to find out and beat the shit out of him, and shame and disown the cheating girl, refusing to ever take her back.

*Harems are the most ridiculous, basic het fantasy ever, and most people who love it in games would cry like little children if their SO offered them to open their relationship, because in their minds cheating is only fun when the het man does it.

*Same with incest: after living your entire life with someone and putting up with their shit, the last thing you want to do is banging them.

*Huge-breasted women in games should walk hunched because of the weight, and by the time they are MILFs, those breasts should be hanging by their knees, with nipples pointing to the floor, and stretching marks.

*We need a healthy dose of gay content in each and every game.

Option A) You are a developer that completes an entire game and puts it on the internet
F95 users create a thread and pirate the game. You have no way of stopping this and will be actively mocked for trying. Maybe some people play the game and leave reviews on it as a completed product. If you really impress people they may watch you for future works, recommend your game on the forum later, or even buy your game after pirating it. Most people download the game, play some amount, then move on to another game. People in the thread ask each other for save files/whatever is the fastest way to see the content. Discussion and feedback are rare. Why would anyone bother posting in the thread when the game is finished and things aren't going to change? People either like it and move on or they don't and then still just move on. You can see this with most japanese games that get posted here.

Option B) You are a developer who creates 1/10th of a game and puts it on the internet with the understanding the game will continue to be developed
F95 users create a thread. You, as the developer, can take control of the thread and have some ability to influence the narrative and give people expectations about the end product before they actually have it. People see your game as a nebulous blob of potential that they can fill in the gaps of to create an idea greater than what it actually is or will become. Some people even review your game based on that potential rather than the actual value it has at the moment, giving it an advantage over finished games that have to be judged on their actual content. Every time you update your game is pushed to the front of the list of updated games with the same amount of importance as finished games, but you can do that every two weeks, giving you far more free marketing. You have months and months worth of chances for people to see and click on your game, as opposed to a single moment in the spotlight. People following your game download it every release, often discussing or giving feedback on the new content. Your game is kept fresher in people's heads, leading to more word of mouth, leading to more people clicking. Forum users are (intentionally or not) invited to get invested in any and all drama surrounding your updates, both in game and out. Enough people filter through and eventually you have a self selected audience of people who believe enough in the potential of your game and/or are so far into sunk cost fallacy supporting you that they will accept however long it takes to finish. There is no longer a reason for you to actually finish the game. Even if you don't intend to take advantage of this, the security and constant reassurances from this audience means that you can slow down and focus on polish, which has the same result. Finishing your game may even mean a DECREASE in revenue as you can't sell the finished product and people may not stick around for whatever you move on to next.

In theory, giving new developers a platform to reach a large audience should always be a good thing, but the way things are structured it has FAR more benefits for the individuals that are following the current early access patreon development model.

Yes, I myself am still participating in this system. No, I do not have a better idea or solution.

There is no way to balance sexual content and narrative in a way one doesn't harm the other.

Gameplay on the other hand..

I think people in general place way too much emphasis on sexuality (in real life and games) without understanding its socially constructed nature. Following this, the gay-straight debates for men surrounding futa, transgender women, and traps have more to do with misplaced feelings of masculinity than actual attraction to a gender. Sexuality is more vibes-based than something that could possibly be defined.

3DCG looks awful. I block it every time I go to check out the latest updates but i'm always shocked at how much is filtered out.

Do people really enjoy the art in those games? Or is it just so common because it's easier to rig models than it is to draw something from scratch. It's always a weird uncanny creepy thing for me.

I enjoy it when it's even relatively well done. But, the writing has to embue the characters with some... character. I recently played apartment 69 and I thought it was on the whole quite pretty to look at (weird rule seven stuff aside.)

I think my brain after a certain point just just fills in the gaps so it leaves the uncanny valley.

I thought of a few more:
  • If your game is actually multiple parts, I will probably skip it. Especially if each part has additional downloads (patches, mods, etc.)
  • For ren'py games, rollback should always be enabled. Know your audience. Probably most of us are playing one-handed anyway, we don't need "challenging gameplay" for a VN
  • Patches should have a filename that tells me which game it is for, at least for the zip- or rar-archive. "patch.rpy" doesn't tell me shit for which game it belongs to.
  • Galleries should be mandatory.
  • there isn't nearly enough content that includes double penetration, but that is just personal preference.

Are these really "unpopular opinions"? They seem like good ideas to me that are widely popular. I've never understood the resistance to rollback.

Post your (at least half related) opinions that you might think are more or less unpopular around these parts.
It could be about anything you'd like from Game Development, Development Practices, Content, Availability, What The Fuck Ever! I'm not watching this thread so it's more like a black hole to dump thoughts into.

I'll start. I really don't think developers (of H-games and otherwise) should be super concerned with people pirating their games. It sounds super dumb but I honestly think that if they focus on making the game good instead of spending every "monthly update" doing something like improving anti-piracy measures that are just gonna be worked around anyway thats probably even worse than if they had done nothing at all because they just ran themselves in circles trying and failing to do anything other than making sure their game is good for whatever that would have meant. If people like your game and they pirated it or whatever then they'll go back and actually pay for a real copy.
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

Also, and this one is much more nitpicky, I don't particularly like Renpy games and am a little (only a little) annoyed by the frequency of which they are made. I guess it an easy to use engine for people who want to tell a story but I dunno /shrug. Not that big a deal I guess.

What are some of your guys' Hot Takes?
1) I think that all Early Access/Unfinished games should be free, just so people would freely choose to support the development of game or not.
1.1 Developer can choose the amount of money and time he needs to develop the game (basically like in the Green Light)
2) If developer didn't finish the game or didn't make all/most things that he promised, he should return the money.
3) Once the game is finished, it can not longer be free, but demo version should be presented as well.
4) If demo version is any different from the original game, developer should return money.

All in all, it sounds like an investment, where only developer is at risk (like it should be). People who are investing money shouldn't be at risk.

Many people have no clue what porn 'addiction' actually is, and want to place some kind of arbitrary number on the accepted number of wanks, porn sessions per day/week to feel better. Spending a few minutes at home jerking off everyday and then moving on with your life is not addiction, that's just called having a routine fap. And your libido determines the frequency of your porn sessions and routine fap. You're only addicted if watching porn and fapping is literally causing you to miss your work/school project deadlines, or missing social events.

Unironically using the word 'degenerate' to vaguely describe any depiction of human sexuality is a political dogwhistle and very cringey. (I see this shit all the time within the game modding communities, and many people on game mod sites like Nexusmods do behave like this)

As with any mental disorder: "addiction" is defined by the problems it causes. So even difficulty sleeping as a result of abstaining from porn is an example of addiction. Though the severity obviously varies.

It's only "political" in the sense that any moral statement is political.
And it's not a "dogwhistle" by definition because your intentions/beliefs regarding the subject are explicitly stated.
