Correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure he/she is still going to use the same renders. Just because its an engine upgrade doesn't mean that it will be a graphical upgrade.

In this case you are wrong There is going to be a significant graphical update. Episode 2 only, is all made in FHD and contains animations. And once we manage to reach our first goal there will be even bigger change in the graphics

The majority of the playerbase would rather not download an emulator and would rather take a game that is directly playable on PC. Why would the dev pick the option that gives him less money?
