I dunno, like, I like Summer's Gone, I like the characters and writing, competition for BaD (main other that's popular, long term and good) in particular is good to make both of them strive to be better, HOWEVER, to be bluntly honest
On the sex, there's a weird rift in the fans, where you have "lol incel" or "TF FOOK NOW" as the most vocal, but the middle ground to me is, ok, they've been forward about a slow burn, people know what they're paying for, and I'm sure it's been talked about but the censorship is particularly weird regardless. It was just to get music contracts in at the end of the day, but it's still marked as adults only on steam, and all the preview screenshots are almost hyper titted characters naked and doing yoga, sitting in the tub. All wallpaper dlc is official adult fan art, but everything sexual in the first 15 hours was altered/removed, when the main character's primary arc involves a sexual trait and trauma? Like, there's "slow burn", and then there's doing censorship to the levels of removing sex and just putting "then they went into their room and hugged" while big ole tiddies is all over the previews. BUT, this is not a sex exclusive thing, not a "lol thirsty incel", it's the plot of the game being altered to get, bluntly and harsh I admit, affordable indie hipster music for background tracks, and I'm not knowledgeable about contracts or terms, but I mean is any company or artist you have to change adult content for going to be ok with sequels actually having it? This is what, part 1 of like 6 or so? If artists don't want to be affiliated with adult games, I really don't see how they'd see no problem with being in a series where the other 100 or so hours is fully adult. If someone hated violence and gore they probably still wouldn't endorse the first Muv Luv for example.
On characters, as has been said, he's bit off more than he can chew. Right now it's hard I'm sure but fine, (even though a common complaint is the first part is largely Bella and the side girls), but going forward it's going to be harder and harder, and by the time of like chap 20+, something's going to give somewhere. BaD to compare goes off like 4 "routes", and depending on the girl you pick, you wind up doing different stuff in different areas, not something like always following the same story but then you can choose to have a coffee date with a, b, c, d, e etc. At a stretch, BaD has like MAYBE 8 li, realistically 6, summer's gone has 12 listed so far. BaD dev is slow, jokes are made about it taking like 10 years frequently, but summer's gone is closer to either charitably grr martin or less so early onset yandev. if he really pursues all characters with the same effort as the remakes of past content, then the time frame is ludicrous. people seem to put half their paychecks on patreons that post a screenshot a month and "im working today" posts and eat it up so I guess he nor them care, and if it's actually made in like 20 years or so that's cool I guess, but the fanbase isn't even going to be the same generation. I guess social security can go to patreon too though.
Just weird though how, if second game onward is "actually" adult, then he pissed off fans and rewrote/made a portion of 15 hours so he could struggle to get indie music, while second game on in like a 6 game series would require entirely different music. That's weird, and I hope it's not storm clouds showing, with something like possibly, even though there's hyper titted yoga in tight skinsuits, being closely monitored to avoid anything too sexual for music contracts.
The sex in general has fractured the fan base though, it started as a slow burn where IDEALLY by the end of the first episode you'd have some sex, or fantasy sex as an appetizer, but with all the alterations there's now people going on like "um ackshully it'd be fine without it, maybe just one scene a girl like 50 hours in", who apparently have read zero female oriented popular novels. If it actually does like Mushoku Tensei does (character gets ed from trauma after li leaves, eventually its fixed by other li and drugs, then onward maximum horny) then it'd give to the audience what was advertised. I just hope it doesn't move to softcore with any sexual content given on the side as downloadable screenshots instead of naturally in the story. li having sexual encounters to try and "fix" mcs problem really should have been left in, with a few relationships already being pretty invested and a couple being known long term, and them being of age, it would have been perfectly timed in a story to have the "low" point of not being able to get it up still, then the second actually solving the problem with them. which again, he originally had written and made, too. and thats for a story where actual hardcore sex would be off screen, let alone a game with it as a selling point.
