fun, and challenging! But I think either more hp or more frequent saves would do well.

This game is way too tough. No reward at all for a good amount of progress. And this is the demo level? What the fuck. Makes me wonder if the dev even play-tested it.

The checkpoints are WAY too far apart from one another and a 3 hit death makes this game easily exit-able. I'll check again later.

Changes in 1.4v:

Hello everyone!

I worked so hard the last few days to deliver this build asap as the game was unplayable for some people. A big shoutout to you guys for pointing out these game design problems and bugs. I'm so thankful to everyone who gave his feedback and I'm so sorry about all the frustration my game caused to you, hope this build match your expectations.

In summary, the changes are a general overhaul to the game difficulty and rewards system. Hopefully, this can make the game less punishing without making it "easy".

INPUT:
-Complete overhaul of the input system; aim input lag removed; now the controls are more responsible.
-Now you can change Rhya's direction in mid-air.
-Keyboard and Gamepad Rebind menu added on In-Game controls menu.
-Bug with aim position detection fixed (bullets being shot in the wrong direction).

CORE:
-Lives system removed. Now when you press the "Try Again" button on the Death Menu, you always return to the last checkpoint destroyed.
-Now Collectible H-Scenes are unlocked as soon as you destroy the hidden beacons. You don't need to finish the whole level to decode them on Main Menu.
-Speed up dialogue removed. Now the dialogue text is twice as fast.
-Skip Dialogue option added using "Start Button" (Default Enter on Keyboard/Start on Gamepad).
-Health Boxes now heal all the HP.
-Crouch invulnerability against blast damage bug fixed.

WEAPON MODULES:
-Rocket Launcher damage hitbox increased by 50%.

DEMO LEVEL (Axias-Prime) MECHANICS:
-Some Turrets and Enemies removed from the Cave section of the level.
-Generator Room now only spawns 1 Health Box instead of 2.
-Machine Gun module added near the Boss Checkpoint to ease the fight.

BlackFortressGames Thank you for the really awesome game and your hyper-quick response to the criticism! If all the AAA developers did the same we'd live the dream. Just a minor suggestion to consider, maybe you can add the permadeath as an option in the menu? It never hurts to have multiple option for the players and I for one love about your game that it actually poses a challenge rather than being too simple like many other out there. So I personally would prefer being able to toggle the difficulty. But, no sweat, game is still a charm and I am looking forward to new releases! <3

Yeah same here. I really enjoyed the challenge your game imposed. Maybe give a Hard mode if you have teh time and motivation to do so^^. Would appreciate it but at the same time i won't demand anything as this game already is refreshing as it is right now. It literally puts me back to my childhood when all the 2d Sidescroller shooters like Duke Nukem or Bio Menace were a challenge to my skills, which i had not :D

a lot of good changes here. i didn't mind the game being hard, but as soon as a realized i could start from the checkpoint after 2 lives it made me just not want to keep trying. fixing that is probably the best change

I agree with this statement. I personally think you should have kept the the mid-air directional changing off to keep it more difficult. Or whatever direction you jump is where your going but you can change the direction your facing but not where your going. For example, if someone runs and tries to jump over a puddle and realizes they can't make it about 1/3rd of the way... they can spin in the air with the right momentum if pre-planned, but they aren't going to magically float back to where they started lol. I don't know why that was ever a thing in video games and I consider it an easy button. But this is coming from someone who enjoys games like Dark Souls that just throw you into it without any tutorial or anything and let you figure it out by failing.

I enjoyed playing through this, really nice pixel art, animation and gameplay. The only thing I'd like right now is a button to skip each individual panel of text in the scenes as this was kind of slow. (y)

Even though I like hard games this one was so punishing I didn't feel like coming back to play it, so it's nice to see these changes and that fast, thank you, I'll give it another chance.
I see Dark Souls being mentioned. Yeah, it's hard, but at least once you reach a checkpoint, if you die, you can try from there again and again and git gud. You don't have to go back to the beginning of the game after 3 deaths (because you are likely to die 3, 10 or 40 times to a boss).
Something that still would prefer is an HP system instead of 3 hits = death. Like it's not the same being hit by a plain bullet or by a rocket to the face. But that's the dev's choice for their game if they prefer it that way to keep it more challenging or who knows, add a no hit mode for some special reward?

I liked v0.3 better. It actually had some challenge. Now its just way too easy. Wish that some hardcore mode will be implemented in future versions

Definitely feels nostalgic with retro graphics , music and difficult gameplay. 1.4 fixed a lot of issues really so keep up the good work. The boss may be a tad difficult for the amount of slime/blobs there are and how much it takes to kill a single one. Might need to adjust that a little. Other than that it's coming along! Can't wait to see more!

I grew up on Metal Slug and found this uncomfortably / annoyingly hard. Neither a good game nor a porn game; just a bad game with porn in it.
