Is there a way to find out who you were as a human and survive because I've never been able to do that and I've played the bortin city part multiple times.

Unfortunately, no; there was going to be a way, but the path was cut as some paths were trimmed in the interest of completing the game. We kicked around the idea of an "update release" that would restore some paths that got pruned, locations that were never finished, etc; though work on the sequel takes up what time we have to contribute.
