I believe for most players its the story progress that is the most important aspect of the game, not necessary how much you can dress up the characters. Kinda feels like the game get turned into something else, but that is the creators choice.

Nevery really understod the extra pampering for higher tier supporters on Patreon either. I thought people would support you with what they feelt like based on actual progress and achievements of the creator. (and what they could afford).

Imho, make something great, and likely to get the support deserved.

It's unfortunate that he's taken this path. Now he's going to waste more time on things this game doesn't really need instead of continuing to build a good story.

Sounds great. Even if it's gonna be damn hard, still exciting.

Someone who really likes the game i guess. I always loved customization. I know it's crazy idea for the visual novel like this, but it's his choice after all.

Yes, it is. But I think this way he will lose more patrons than win.

Would probably leave a better taste if adding customization and exra fluff is done after the story is completed. Look at it like DLC rewards for higher level supporters or what not. Spending to much dev time on such and put the progress of story on a slower phase leave a feeling of trying to milk the project.

The idea is good but... customization in this kind of game? impossible! changing clothes is easy, but hairstyle, bust size and skin color!? no way! that's endgame material, the guys should focus on expanding the story first and let +$20 Patreons choose clothes and have extra scenes, like in Dreams of Desires.

Or if he did some Lesson Learned and proposed that for his next game once this one is finished. Would bring a feeling of professionalism instead of a feeling of procrastination.

Let's see what he delivers in Part V. Maybe this problems with rendering and compressing images finally behind (or sorta behind anyway). I hope for the better. At least we all understand why he doing it in the first place. It's very-very risque, but at least there is a chance.

I completely agree with you, but who doesn't. He needs more and more patrons, boost popularity, like everyone else. Problem is, he still doesn't really have "company" behind him. It's risque and tons of work for just one person. I hope he at least planned and seriously think about it. It's really better to make a poll about such things.

Well, I know you can't really compare it to youtube. But as a content creator its not that one thing that make you grow, its the steady progress over time. Maybe one particular thing put you on the map and let people take notice. If he make one good game, without to much fuzz. His fans will look forward to his next projects too.

If you look at Patreons as a term of advertisement. What is best, have 100 guys spend 5 bucks or 20 guys spend 20. 100 guys prone to talk to more people about the game than those 20. Also if you want to build a larger base of Patreons I believe how you interact with your community and your effort into build it.

If your friend tell you some game suck, got a bad experience with etc you are less prone to check it out yourself. While the oposite work the other way. Word of mouth is the most powerfull advertisement there is.

Seems like Gumdrop always wanted to make his game better and better (like he see it anyway). Maybe in his opinion, all this extra features is making game much better, and attracts more people. Polished remastered content, gallery, secrets... all this to make game perfect, like Gumdrop sees it. It's not necessarily making it perfect in player's eyes of course. It can be great looking cute renders, amazing features, but content is content. And most people want more and more juicy content, even if it's not polished at all. I think it's just not how Gumdrop works. He's not about zillion content, but about trying to polish it. I think he knows how to build patreon base, and it's not that hard to find out, but still doing it his own way. Besides, 20$ patrons is like the most trusted people, who really support you and less frequent of "running away" at first side of storm.

I can say that personally, i pretty much always check games myself. Even if people i know say "it's shit", it can be just opinions. And that's how i've found my favourite games many times. Maybe it's not popular opinion.

idk about that, because, if all you can afford to spend on patreon is 5 bucks and you decide to pledge that. It doesn't make you any less worth or trusted imho, than someone who can afford to pledge more just because, well they richer?

I agree placing a higher regard on people simply because they pay more does not mean they will hang around any longer. Also I would think the percentage of, lets say, $5 patreon far out weighs the $20 crowd.

Alienate or under value your largest demographic of support at your peril.

You're right, but I mean people who have free 20$, and still supporting only for 5$. I don't know, when i support something for 20$, then this game and creator really worth it. Of course all people are different, but you can say that author more grateful towards more "rich\generous" people, with more rewards and stuff like that. To make this pledge worth. Author trying to make them much more satisfied. Does that mean this people will stay longer? And when they satisfied, do this make them more trusted? Even if (by default) they didn't have too much faith in you?

Is it right tactics (encouraging people to pledge more) anyway? I'm not sure, but i've seen this many times, and it seem to work.

Maybe a bit silly, but imagine take a tv series like Game of Thrones, the creators goes, we going to cut the episodes with 10 minutes, but we will include one more dragon.... in each episode (yeah I know silly), but anyways. I would rather want a full episode than some extra fluff :p

I do pledge a few on Patreon, some get a bit more than others, but that is due to the result they show for. I dont think someone would just settle for the minimum if they really like the work of the creator though.

Doesn't seem like good reference. Gumdrop still provide maximum of his ability with polished content for all patrons, and non-patrons eventually. It's not like there was a time when he provide us more than this amount, but without polishing it. Or cut some of the game's content (you can consider remaster as "returning of some abandoned content" of course, but it's not the point). No, he's doing it like that from the start of this journey. And now he's trying one of the beloved patreon tactics. It's like no one really miss much content anyway (i mean story), it's just customization.

And you seem to basically agree with me about pledges.

      Poll Day 1 - MOTHER
      $20+ patrons
      Aug 12 at 6:54pm
To kick off the first month, we'll be voting for some of the garbs we've come across so far in Dual Family.
Choose the card color with the most temptation -- it's for your mother!

Silver, thus far, is in the lead. I voted 'Gold' myself- the mom in those tight jeans is quite stimulating!
But I have no problem with the workout outfit either.

I still can't wrap my head around this. It would make sense to remaster the game and add customization when there is a lot of content there. The problem is that there's so little content right now that these additions lend themselves to people receiving less content in the future. Especially the dev team is composed of one person. He could have progressed the story to Part V and could be finishing up Part VI now. It seems like this game will always be full of potential until the dev gets his head out of the clouds.

His head ain't in the clouds; it's buried deep in that cash cow. Gotta keep that money flowing as long as possible, best way is to not advance story!
