I played this game for 30 minutes and...
Well...
I don't know...
It had the same effect on me as reading Marquis de Sade: it's extremely disturbing.

In this genre, the author has perfectly understood how to play with emotions, even with childish graphics.
I can't deny the author's talent and knowledge of the subject.
I'll pick up the game again to see where it goes, but I'm not going to do it in one go.

I'd definitely recommend checking it out, but only for an audience well aware of the cruelty and sadism that's about to hit them in the face.

Uuuuuuuuwaaaaaaaaaaoooooooooo !

Not sure how this doesn't fit into the category of Kinetic Novel as if you do anything but what the game wants its a bad ending. The game has the occasional simplistic combat section and the occasional choice but if you choose the wrong choice or lose in combat you get a bad ending. I played a good hour or so and I never saw an actual game just a novel with bad mtl. If the game actually opens up to be more of a game but it takes longer than an hour then I will still give this a hard pass.

Great setting, cute protagonist. I recommend starting on Easy though because there's no save prompt between the extremely long throat-singing pre-war sequence and the first set of battles with game-over gore.

The art is distinctive and grows on you, it's not full of deliberately ugly scenes like that slumming-patrician game. The Engrish is very easy to understand, it's not MTL poetry. There are some great early exchanges:

chief: wow, you're here to ally with us! Amazing! Want some grub?
roman: I'm not here to eat your filthy uncivilized food.
chief: huh, I think that 'filthy' is a more appropriate word for your Roman cities that are filled with whores.

Ostrogoths: I hear those Huns fuck horses. Literally, they have sex with horses. You can't even rape a Hun virgin because she's definitely lost it to a horse already.
protagonist: this negative stereotyping is so, like, problematic. I'm reporting these racists to twitter and then I won't even have to kill them, they'll get cancelled so hard! (lie)

Last time period I have ever expected any adult game developer to set a game in due to the chaotic nature of Roman History in the late Fourth and Fifth Centuries.

As an amateur historian with passion for ancient history, I am going to give this game a shot and see how it is. Of course mostly to review the historical accuracy ;P

there is also a room full of the references they took for the game, you can access it at the end of the game or by using the full save in the file and going up the stair until you see a tent

Kind of what I figured which is why I gave up. Was hoping it might expand into something more but thanks for letting me know for sure.

The fact that the loser simp European who designed this game cannot accept and sobs in his bed at night is that in real life the Huns took Roman women as trophies and made them sex slaves.
Tell me you know nothing about Huns, without saying you know nothing about Huns. :KEK:

Huns were successful only briefly, they managed to subjugate some germanic tribes and even raid peripheral territories of Roman Empire. But as soon as Atilla died they immediately fell from grace. Then they got absorbed and assimilated by local ethnic groups.
