Obviously his fame is based on a few aspects:
- CGs quality is much better than most of the other developers. Everything is at least decent when it comes to graphic.
- His game has an actual gameplay. Multibranching and rival make it much more enjoyable. You can lose and you can win. Different path different outcome. Comparing it to Summertime Saga is unreasonable as SS, as most of erotic games, doesn't even try to create some challenge. You see a female, you fuck her after half an hour. Slow pace and more complex gameplay of BB makes it feel almost like a normal game.
- Last element is probably crucial as well. This game is unique in terms of fetishes. I've played almost every NTR game in Japan but I've never seen it mixed with incest. Sometimes step-sister relation happens but never actual incest. In fact Ds is kinda right about it not being NTR as it's NTR only if we are unrealisticly imagine ourselves as an incest-looking brother. NTR in it's pure form is brutal, mindcrushing and painfully based on reality. Ofc it depends on a story but as it's main attributes are psychological it's highly realistic even tho it's sad. Incest on the other hand is totally different. Nowadays in Western patreon games it's the most popular pattern for erotic games as it's the simpliest one. Guy living with chicks is always great as player imagine himself as him tho doesn't feel like his an actual family member. Incest per se is probably the least realistic fetish in modern erotic games with 0% of actual possibility. It's as realistic as elves and even bestiality is closer to being realistic. Therefore BBs mix is interesting. It gained attention of different players and it's doing it fine tho it's obvious incest playerbase will be against NTR as it doesn't fit their fantasy. All in all in comparison to other games mentioned in this topic BB actually feels professional.

Yeah I also think the CG is the key. As far as I can tell it has unique modells (80% of the 3D games use stock Daz models or characters found online on the first few link), proper backgrounds, proper lighting, reflections. He is really talented on the graphic part, the whole view just feels natural. That's not really common with 3D games.
The gameplay was good at the first few version and a story seemed interesting. After 0.3 it really turned into a major cuckold which alienated a lot of people, so probably he will change a few things about Eric.

The game is okay, maybe a little better then some other games, but, please stop telling that CGs quality in this games is the best and on top....
I can teach all of you how to render exacly like that in 3-5 minutes... He didn't even reduce gamma and saturation so everything in this game is orange... (mainly skin)

BB is good, like others said. But there is other thing - competition is a crap !
Most Asian games are infested with RAPE. Many games are fuckfeast with sperm showers. Or are lenghty VNs - 30-50hours for one gameplay.
Most Western games are crap - unfinished, poor story, poor renders etc. Same story in many Patreon games. Some interesting things, storywise, are on TFGamesite, but then engine is (almost) text only.
Of course there are exceptions. There are good games, but I played them all LOL. BB has its flaws. Like other games, story is not made by pros. I met such people, they can throw believable, complex and interesting stories from nowhere. I think that DS is not such person. But still, he has some good ideas + he makes good gameplay/grind + great renders.
So BB is most complete p0rn game, has so much key elements done at least good. BB is simple DIFFERENT than other games. Not only renders, but Eric as competitor, Incest+NTR unique tandem. DS also is good in showing story over consecutive versions. There is something to wait for. So I can't w8 for next version.

When you compare the money that DarkSilver makes and other creators the differences is to much
I think DarkSilver makes 30k - 40k in a month but for example Summertime saga hardly makes 11k .
and I love to fight Eric! It's like pumping fresh air through this genre.

I got interested due to the art, mostly the character models that look a lot more natural than what I'm used to from similar games. And while it may not be on par with top notch renders available elsewhere it is still way above what most smut games offer.
In terms of story I do enjoy corruption carried out by a dominant figure more than the incest themes, so I'm conflicted in a different way than most people who have major problems with Eric and the game being advertised as an incest game. (Personally, I'd probably actually prefer the game being from his or one of the women's perspective)
Even though the writing is not great it's not as horribly broken as and overall a fair bit more competent than a lot of other stuff I've had the displeasure to give a try.

*Great graphics -} beautiful renders, the female characters have realistic\natural body form (which is awesome in my taste, unlike all those exaggerated body types in other games, that shit turns me off instantly. I don't even bother trying such games.)
*The story is interesting enough (obviously, unrealistic, it is a fantasy after all.) and the characters have some background, personal preferences and tastes, which makes them worthwhile to read through and understand. That truly enriches the experience for me. (unlike certain scenarios which are more like "omg i wanna fuck my daddy" with no reasoning given.)
*The corruption is relatively gradual and realistic. The buildup is half the fun for me - seeing the characters around you getting accustomed to your goals and ideas, slowly giving up resistance, and acting more freely in intimate situations.
I don't care for music, it is usually shitty in porn\eroge\hentai games anyways. So that saves me the trouble of needing to turn it off, I like playing with music that I actually like in the BG.
Sure, animation is always a plus, but it's not a must. I enjoy it more or less the same as long as the renders are good enough, and most animated games trade off the render quality to increase work speed. So animation is not a win-win thing in independent games.
So in my book, this game is definitely worth my money and attention.

There have been noble families that practiced it to preserve the "bloodline" or "family." People are still marrying their cousins and such. In recent times there have been a few cases here and there in different countries that has reached the medias attention. That has been about parent-child both fully grown children and som of them in their teens. Last one I remember was in America, it had a short limelight span. So it's very real, very taboo, and yes more real then elves. The beast thing has also existed for a long time so not going to say anything about that.

I hate to burst peoples bubble - but the UI is pretty much a rip off from another commercial dating simulator. I agree that he creates higher quality graphics than most other smut games but its still all just a copycat product. But it is in fact the crucial part of his success as the user doesnt constantly feel lost like in other games.
As a few have already mentioned the popularity is based both on 'subjective' great aesthetics and the fact that he is smart as a developer. From the first versions on he has build cliffhangers into the game and made announcements what's to come in there (meaning he has it already finished but keeps people waiting). Latest part of this strategy is Olivia - he places the naked character into the game but leaves interaction out. Now everyone just waits what the interactions might be - very smart indeed from a production point of view.
As of the gameplay he is smart again. A good mix between easy sex interaction (aunt) and struggle to achieve anything. Players don't stick around if stuff is easy all the way or too hard overall - he actually found a decent mix of it.
Everything else is personal taste and has nothing to do with his popularity in general. Others attract the same players but fail in the implementation part which is clearly the main attraction.
