Why Is Almost Every “Furry” Title…?

…primarily geared towards gay sex?

Seriously: No hate, judgment, or kink-shaming being leveled here. This is simply an observation I’ve made after scrolling through the “Latest Updates” for a couple of years, now. Sure, there are a few exceptions here and there (mostly in the form of the My Little Pony satires)…but it seems like this this is true 99% of the time.

Why is this? It’s not my kink of choice, so can someone explain it to me?

I too am curious as to why the two tags seemingly are together a lot.

Mod Note: You may wish to move this preemptively to off topic, this might attract a few....diverse opinions on the topic.

I endorse this 100%, if it will avoid drama. That isn’t the point of my post in the least — and I’d like to avoid that if it’s at all possible.

I once thougth the same, until I checked the stats here.

Games with the "Furry" tag: 472
Games with the "Furry" and "Gay" tags: 187 (39,61% of 472)

Results: No, that's just an illusion. They may look like they always go together simply because of Loss Aversion, but that isn't the case.

Adabelitoo,

Thanks for the reply and the stats! Thanks also for the term “loss aversion”; I wasn’t familiar with it before, and I think it’s handy to know about.

I don’t doubt that your statistics are accurate…but is it possible that many of those without the tag are old games that are either complete or are no longer updated? That wouldn’t diminish your point, but it might mean that what I’m seeing now is also true…it’s just a new-ish phenomenon?

Either way, interesting!

Jack Dangers;

You are able to do your own research on the Latest Updates page and filter based upon tags and date and whatever else you are looking for.

Games with updates listed in the past year:
268 Furry
113 Furry and Gay (42%)

in the past 6 months
169 Furry
78 Furry and Gay (46%)

in the past 3 months (which puts just about every game within the "active" category)
120 Furry
53 Furry and Gay (44%)

in the past month:
56 Furry
29 Furry and Gay (52%)

As you can see - it's about 50/50 at best (tomorrow it could be 48% instead of 52% - but still within reason). Now, is the amount disproportionally skewed toward Furry and Gay tags combinations when looking at the sexuality declared by people in the world? Yes. However, I wouldn't put too much stock into making a hypothesis based upon this.

Note that the Female Protagonist tag is combined with Furry at a higher rate than you might expect in games here, in general, as well:

75 at one year (28%)
60 at 6 months (35%)
45 at 3 months (38%)
19 at 1 month (34%)

The reason why you think you see the Furry/Gay combo 99% of the time might also be explained by the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon (frequency bias) where once you see something, you might believe you see it everywhere. Say you buy a black 2020 Nissan Altima tomorrow, all of a sudden you now see them "everywhere." They were always there, but because of your new experience, you now think there are many more than you first thought.

jestertlw,

Thanks for your input, the statistics, and teaching me another piece of psychology (who knew I'd get that out of my question?)!

Between the statistics you and Adabelitoo have provided, it's clear that I was mistaken in my initial assessment -- probably for the reasons the both of you posed. Again, very interesting -- for a host of reasons!

Anyway, thanks for clearing up my misconception. :giggle:

It's no illusion, gay games are a little over 5% of the total of games, the likeliness of furry games being gay is much higher.

How much of this furry tagged games are a central part of its content though? I also share the same impression from OP because when I see the discord updated list of games, the ones that I can clearly see are furry (furry characters are on the cover) seem to all come with the gay tag. There are many games out there that have the furry tag just because there is a cat girl character that is an optional or minor character that the MC can fuck, so I wouldn't define those games as furry targeted.

Good point! As I said, "furry" isn't my preferred genre...so I've never actually played one of the games to which I refer before. So I can't speak to this directly. Something to consider, though!

This feels like the same argument that not every person who goes to a furry convention goes for sex reasons. Like, yes, sure, it might not be the simple majority of people (though it might be...). But even if 40% of the furries go to a furry convention for sex reasons, then that's a pretty major reason for people to go to furry conventions even if not technically the majority. Similarly, 40% of furry games here having the gay tag is a huge proportion and feels very telling that furry porn is extremely likely to also be gay porn as compared to most types of porn out there that aren't themselves specifically already gay themes.

For reference, there are 1448 games here with the incest tag (and that's probably a little low, considering that not all incest games with patches use that tag), but only 64 of those incest games have the gay tag. That's 4.4%. If anything, I think the numbers of furry games vs. furry gay games provide strong evidence that there IS some connection between furry porn and gay porn.

As to why? No fucking clue. Well, not no fucking clue, but it's really speculation more than anything. First off, many furries get into furry stuff for sex reasons. I'm just going to assert that and not bother trying to prove it, but I think it's reasonable to go with me on this one at least that far. A lot of furry stuff seems specifically to be author-insert content, where they imagine some really specific furry (or really generic furry for that matter---lotta catgirl stuff out there) to be their avatar and go off to find some people to bang online for some variety of roleplay. But back in the day, not all that many furries were ladies, and most sex roleplay was still heterosexual, so a bunch of guy furries started playing lady furries, and that evolved into furry dudes with boobs (I refuse the 'chicks with dicks' phrasing because that's not a real thing. If you have a penis and balls, even if you have breasts as well, I consider you to be at least biologically male even if that's not the gender you identify as) in roleplay sex. And then that attracted more gay people or people who are into gay sex (I imagine the audience got more lady-friendly as a result of ladies, for reasons also unclear to me, really being into gay dudes banging), and it eventually tipped over into furry porn being pretty gay porn.

What I find extra odd about the furry community, though, is how little of it has incest. For reference, there are 472 furry games here and only 31 furry incest games, in spite of incest being hugely popular as a genre (out of the 9942 games on this site, 1448 are incest games, aka 14.5% versus 6.5% of furry games having incest). My guess is that this is mostly a loli problem (likely because furries became furries because of anthropomorphized cartoon animals on childrens' cartoons due to creators being afraid of overly sexualizing human characters---sigh), but it remains that the furry community seems to really fucking hate incest in a way that, you might think, a marginalized community of people who have been considered sexual deviants based on the fully-fictional sex that they enjoy might be able to sympathize with. If it ever seems like I don't sympathize as much with furries as I might otherwise with other groups of that sort, it's because I feel like the stigmaphobes in that community started hating on people like me first.

I guess it depends on what the OP is asking.

A lot of similar thread starts like "Why every furry game is gay?". In that case, no, not every furry game is gay, not even half of them are gay. This thread starts with "primarily geared towards gay sex?". Is it primarily geared towards gay sex? I don't know, I don't think so. For me that would mean at least a 50% so no, but on the other hand Gay still is the must used tag when it comes to Furry games, so is it?

I play some furry games but I honestly don't give a shit about the furry. I don't care if Lola Bunny is a bunny, she is still a hot fuckeable normal woman in my eyes. Some furry games with the gay tag have like 1 fuckable male and 9 fuckable woman. Is that furry game oriented to gay people? No. That's why I feel okay saying that furry games aren't primarily geared towards gay sex, because not even all the games with Gay tag are oriented to gay people.

But then again, isn't 40% like a lot to be just a coincidence? For me it isn't enough, but I'd understand those who think it is.

On top of that, there are so many uncontrolled variables to make any reliable theory.
  • The current offerings of non-gay Furry games may suck in comparison to the gay Furry games.
  • There might have been one kick-sss gay Furry game that sparked a trend
  • The number of gay Furry game fans might be a very small number, but very passionate about a having a wider variety of gaming experience in comparison to non-gay Furry game fans
  • There might be a larger community of gamers who come to F95 over other services that prefer gay Furry but elsewhere, not so much.
  • Might depend on how much Fur is each Furry game
  • Mistagging
  • And more ...
The fact is not a lot of Furry game fans have come in here to confirm or deny or to offer their perspective to give enough data to come to any conclusion. Almost everything in here is just a bunch of gamers who are trying to figure something out without really including quantitative input from the community which are interesting in Furry games.

All we can say, with some certainty, is that on F95, the number of gay Furry games is in higher proportion to the number of Furry games than expected based upon the proportion of gay tagged games to all games on F95. But that amount, currently, is not statistically significant to support the theory presented by OP.

It is an interesting question. But as others have pointed out, at best we can make some vague general assumptions, that may or may not be correct.

I think a general observation would be that sexual fetish groups, typically overlap with other sexual fetish groups, more so than you would expect to see from a general population spread. S&M and D&S play being the typical overlaps, even if there no requirement for pain to be a component of the latter, or submission being a part of the former. But they very often overlap.

Is it likely that the furry community have a higher % of homosexuals? Yes. Merely because human groups tend to behave the same way, as long as the totems of the group is of the same type as the groups you compare them to.

But, at the end of the day, its content. Some will consume it, some will not. But better to have more to choose from.
