What are you thinking about stylized 3D instead of Realism?

Art style doesn't matter as long as the quality of it is good. If your good at making stylized 3D art, then go for it.

Most people choose the more realistic looking stuff for their game since that's the art style DAZ uses. Outside of real porn it's the easiest to start with.

I usually prefer stylized 3d over realistic 3d.
Something about stylized character models such as Honey Select or Koikatsu give my mind an easier time accepting and ignoring all the small errors or discrepancies that could otherwise break the illusion of a scene or story.
The more realistic looking a 3d model gets the more hyper aware I become of every small oddity in gesturing, posture, expressions, and movement. It hits uncanny valley territory really quick if the eyes are just a little too big or spaced out. Starts to have creepy wtf vibes when someone's elbows are bent a little too far back. Shit like that. Sometimes just the smallest details and it pops out to me like a damn beacon demanding my full attention because everything else is trying to look real and that one thing right there is just so obviously wrong. Just complety wrecks the scene for me.

Like in games here, a good example is the ever ubiquitous male with a horse cock DAZ model. This is especially notable in scenarios where a partner is so short that you are left wondering how they could ever accommodate something half their size. Or in scenes where a woman is trying to blow it and you get one of those side shot images where it looks like she had to dislocate her jaw just to get it in her mouth. Right there. Scene just started and it's already ruined because I'm rolling eyes at the stupidity of it. My mind is already pointing out how fake and unrealistic it is. Same exact scene and setup with HS or Koikatsu models? Nothing. The cartoonish fantasy look is already established so having cartoonish fantasy sized anatomies isn't surprising or off putting in the least.

Different strokes, and all that. Personally I strongly prefer stylized. Much easier to get the suspension of disbelief going - so you can get away with much more wacky things than in realism, thus a wider variety of themes and content. Much easier on the GPU, so you can actually run it without selling a kidney for a "mid-range" PC.

Если бы был выбор то я бы предпочёл что бы было больше реализма в 3D моделях. Стилизация это просто подчёркивание собственного стиля для отличия. Какие есть игры в которых 3D персонажи выглядят более реалистично по вашему мнению.

If there was a choice, then I would prefer that there would be more realism in 3D models. Styling is simply emphasizing one's own style for distinction. What games are there in which 3D characters look more realistic in your opinion.

No favorites when both are well done in whatever setting and theme portrayed.

Though in some settings i end up being bias towards one or the other.
To provide a simple example of it, in fantasy and alike settings stylized 3D ends up immersing me faster in the world and plot, while realistic 3D does that for slice of life and similar genres.

I think both are equally valid and it depends on the artistic vision of the videogame creator(s).

Although in my opinion and in personal taste, I prefer a stylized 3d style than a realistic one, for the simple reason that I consider that many realistic 3d models are a bit creepy, you know, the uncanny valley.

I find that most attempts at realistic 3D actually come off looking more stylized than realistic, not that there's necessarily anything wrong with stylized, either. But realism is quite difficult to pull off effectively, if the intent is truly realism. With regard to purely visual quality, most don't put in the required effort to do it, IMO. But, when it is done well, it wins by a country mile.

Im halfu asian and tbh I think DAZ renders get things like the western jawline, nose, and lip shape right, while HS2 models get a lot of asian features like the jaws, cheekbones, and jowels. I dont think either of those are unrealistic, the cartoonish proportions are more on the person designing the character which happens just as much in DAZ. My biggest gripe with people using HS is how face blind creators can be, a lot of the HS models have an asian face if you just remove the make up and give them the right skin color, and they can just keep getting away with it. You can probably blame anime for that problem

As hundreds of games in recent years show, you can create amazing images using "realistic" 3d but it will be easier to exhibit a distinct artistic vision if you manage to stylize your art somehow.

The comparison of 2D vs 3D isn't exactly fair as we're usually comparing someone with an art background (2D) vs someone with no art background, mashing together characters in Daz (3D).

If the person with no art background tried to draw 2D, it would undoubtedly look even worse than whatever they put together in Daz.

We'll see a render with an unnatural pose, maybe a neck turn borderline broken and think "uncanny valley". You'd think it was wrong even if it was 2D.

As much as I'd like to consider myself an artist, I'm more of a techie who's fiddling with software. Give me a pen and paper and I'll draw something worthy of being hung on a fridge by proud parents of a 6 year old.

Edit: Was responding to the 2D responses and realized I've gone off topic from the OP which is 3D stylized vs 3D realistic. Same principles apply but stylized makes it simpler by removing the requirements of understanding how light and materials interact.

Согласен что трудно добиться реалистичного вида у 3D моделей, в особенности лицо. Есть virtamate где некоторые выглядят довольно реалистично, как лицо, так и настройка графики. Я не могу вспомнить чтобы virtamate использовали для создания игр.

I agree that it is difficult to achieve a realistic look in 3D models, especially the face. There is virtamate where some look quite realistic, both the face and the graphics setting. I can't remember virtamate being used to make games.

I think a lot of Daz character assets are pretty good at representing realistic faces. Of course, there are many stylized character models/morphs, too, but there's just as many realistic ones.

I think the big problem with faces isn't so much with the face assets, necessarily, but with the expressions the dev puts on those faces, and the lighting they use in their scenes.

Expressions, in my observation, is really where the realism in the face tends to break down pretty severely. I think, in general, they're exaggerated way too much way too often. As a consequence, the faces end up looking like they're more like Sims than realistic characters. I think if creators learned to do more microexpressions this could greatly mitigate this problem.

Это модели на уже на созданных персонажей, если выбирать уже извечных личностей то всегда хотелось бы видеть в оригинальной графике. Если есть умения создавать в Blender то и реалистичную графику для персонажей можно создать. Просто надо знать как хочешь чтобы выглядела игра. Персонажи должны иметь мультяшную внешность, кукольную или реалистичную. Вот и ответ.

These are models for already created characters, if you choose already eternal personalities, you would always like to see them in the original graphics. If you have the ability to create in Blender, then you can create realistic graphics for characters. You just need to know how you want the game to look. Characters must have a cartoonish appearance, puppet or realistic. Here is the answer.

2 and 3 look so similar that I could believe its the same artist, but the third pic has really nice details with the sculpt and the eye textures, its also the most professional looking
