. And more than a fiscal reason, their new ToS seem to point to a mind change. Illusion is too well known as permissive when it come to IP, and it would have been hard for them to enforce their new ToS after two decades past not caring about what people do with their products.

Not like that copyright laws ever stopped modders lol. The worst case scenario is that this'll just drive them back to China, Vietnam or Russia. Unless they make their games close-sourced, and they implement very restrictive DRMs (ala Denuvo) clamping down on it, which itself is more anti-consumer.

I suppose this'll affect the people who make use of their games (Koikatsu/Honey Select) as a glorified asset/model systems to make their own games (VNs especially).

ToS is the same as before so that will not change modding/games made in the engine, but yea, it's disappointing that they did not take the opportunity to modernize the Studio. At least they stopped using mail order as the primary distribution method and went full digital, but still, the lack of Steam is a dum dum move.

Regardless, Room Girl was dead on release due to changes under the hood making it much harder to mod, so time will tell how this will work.

Good business idea... Offer up "Honey Come Neo" as a standalone that is pretty much them allowing people to use their software for third party game making. They would make insane money with doing that. They would be a super DAZ.

Anyone got something for this? I didn't translate the posts on Twitter but it seems that a few Japanese users I've seen from my searches already have their own characters. Is a demo already available?

Ooof. Are those TOS actually new though? Or just the same as the old ones copy pasted? Because if copy paste then whatever. They didn't try to enforce it in the past so it doesn't mean anything's really changed.

Also since they remade as a new company to avoid debts or contracts or something, I'm guessing at least they won't also try to do any sort of copyright striking on all their previous Illusion games, since those seems fully abandoned IP wise and even taken off stores. So even if they became more annoying about copyright with their new "Illgames" games I doubt theyd be targeting old Illusion game stuff. So all the honey select/koikatsu devs should be safe still.
