Overview:
The island of Palastra has fallen from it's golden age. The land is dying, birthrates have reached an all-time low, and the people are desperate. On the cusp of disaster, a new energy source, Ether, is discovered by Theofrad, the Archduke of Energeia. It stands to give the island nation a real chance at rejuvenating itself, but the Holy Dragon Empire Granlyed declares it heresy, and declares a holy war on Energia. Theofrad is outmatched and outnumbered, but with his wit, his technology, and a few new allies, can he overcome the odds and save his city? Or is Energeia doomed to fall at the hands of the Empire?

I tried playing the previous VenusBlood games, but I never got the hang of the combat system...
Not a single game managed to explain it clearly. I guess it's naive to assume this one will be any different.
From those example pictures, i don't think they'll be any different. Maybe just the same combat system but now with "slightly different story"... You can be like me.... pick the easy mode with skip battle button because i can't never understand how the battle works. Just enjoy the corruption and use the lower brain, let the upper brain rest.

Ragnarok is a distant sequel to Frontier according to the wiki. Other than that there doesn't seem to be much confirmed continuity between the games in terms of actual plot.

The games mostly share some gameplay elements and themes like anti-heroic (and I use this term very loosely) protagonists, rivaling nations/leaders who you need to conquer and corruption/harmony mechanics.

Also tentacles.

They went... backwards? The games have no continuity between them, with the exception of Frontier to Ragnarok, as was already mentioned, but the original release order goes Frontier, Gaia, then Hypno (remade as Hollow). Oh well, I'll play it anyway once it's fully released.
