VN - Ren'Py - Completed - The Fate of Irnia [v1.0] [Winterlook]

Main story is interesting but ends abruptly. Would like to see how protagonist ends the war (diplomacy, war, etc) Choices only matter for choosing partner and almost not affecting main story. It's seems like author wanted to add gold/soldiers management, but in the end abandoned this idea, so in the end you always have enough gold for best ending no matter what decisions you make ruling the kingdom.
When you choose one partner route you lock almost all other routes. Blue side of sphere almost see no use, all female characters fall in love without blue sphere (even Sandy confess that she liked the hero before using sphere).

Despite many imperfections I rate this game 5/5 because it's much more interesting than most of the games on f95. It's worth playing and provides high replayability. You only start to notice that mistakes after several replays.

Of the time of writing this game is Version 1.0

Before starting this review I would like to say that I’ve 100% completed the game, getting all 28 endings as well as the Neutral ending. I’ll be breaking the game down into what I see as its major aspects and grading it based on my experience.

    Expect Spoilers for the Story

    Story (1/1)
The main story is pretty simple, the main character is promoted to be the hand of the queen on his 18th birthday and needs to lead the kingdom against the incoming orc invasion. This is what makes up the “neutral route” which all other routes branch off of, as well as having its own ending. The neutral route has a very definite right answer to all of the choices, and because every other route is woven into the neutral route, you will be using the skip button very often in order to see the content for your chosen route.

Each female character in this game (except the witch in the woods) has a route, which by itself is very admirable. But each route also adds around 15 minutes to an hour's worth of extra content (at my reading speed). The Romance routes felt very genuine and loving, I found myself getting wrapped up into my character a lot doing them, and the corruption routes felt like what you would expect from someone who gets drunk on power. Without getting into the specifics of every character, they all feel very well written and never have a sudden personality shift (aside from the obvious one that comes with corruption).

The length of the main route and branching routes aren’t long, but definitely don’t feel short, for the kind of game this is, they felt just right. I was able to usually do around three routes in a night, while skipping through the main story stuff.

The only issue I have with the story is the sphere, especially on the corruption routes. The blue side hardly gets any use (looking at the guide linked on the game page, it’s used about 5 times) and if you use it on Sandy (a requirement for the romance route) you actually get in trouble with her over it. Most romance routes don’t actually have you use the sphere at all, which starkly contrasts red. You use red 15 times in the game, sometimes more than once on a single playthrough, which usually wouldn’t be a problem. Red is corruption and blue is purity (I’m guessing it’s why you don’t use it much lol) but the issue comes from the story. On Death’s route, she tells you how they will break free if you use them too much, and the witch says they abandon you once you are no use to them. But you use red all the time and nothing bad happens, he even stays with you when you become king. This issue wasn’t enough to detract from the story, it was just something that stood out.

    Art (1/1)
The game has 4 distinct art styles, 2 of which you see constantly. All of the sex scenes and ending slides (except for the succubus romance route) are in the same art style, while all of the characters are in a different one (except for the Witch, which is different than the one mentioned earlier). I felt it was important to mention that at the front because it can be distracting especially if going straight from a scene to dialogue with that character, suddenly changing form (even more so when the character art is uglier than than the in-scene character, like your mom or sandy). The character art is done excellently despite this however, giving the character a very detailed appearance that made it easier for me to envision them acting in the world. The art in the Sex scenes is also very well done. The detail helps accentuate the characters beauty and their actions in the scene, the variety in endings to the scene is also very appreciated. Small things like a graphic for the character getting impregnated, the option for pubic hair, the character’s expression, and the cum detail helped sell the scenes to me.

Overall, I wish the game was had 1 art style, and if I could pick it would be the one from the sex scenes, I prefer those designs of the characters. But that isn’t enough for this not to get a star from me. Well done.

    Gameplay (1/1)
The way the choices for the paths are implemented is well done, with most of them being a dialogue option, which made it obvious to me what the intention was. There were 3 instances that stood out to me though, where a choice was based on looking around the screen and not a dialogue choice (with the dialogue actually leading to failure). Clicking on Death’s face to go down her route, finding the Naiad in the fountain, and finding the flower for Sandy all stood out really well.

There are a lot of hanging gameplay threads however that don’t get brought up more than once, chiefly the chart that Roland shows you. Despite what the game wants you to believe, it only shows up once, and doesn’t really matter overall. Like I said in the story section, there is one right answer for the main route, and once you find it (I did on my first try) there is no reason to deviate from it, so solving all of Rolands problems becomes routine in run 2. There is also the decision after Red Mountain to tell the whole truth or not, I never saw this turn into anything on my playthroughs.

That isn’t enough for it to not get a star though. I think the way the other routes branch from the main route, as well as the other extra tid bits are enough to get the star by itself, and while I did critique the other hanging threads, I think they should have only been a small narrative factor since you start to not care about the main story as much as the routes as you keep replaying the game.

    Grammar (0/1)
The writing in this game is really good, but sometimes it feels like the writer gets too wrapped up in their own scene to make sure they are typing it right. Grammar issues are most common in sex scenes and vary from small mispellings to entire groups of words getting mashed together. It interrupts the flow of the scene and makes some parts incomprehensible. I am sympathetic however since I’ve had issues with grammar in the past, and doesn’t excuse the writer for not using autocorrect though.

    Technical (1/1)
The Game has 4 minor problems that can I put under this section, Narration, Improper scenes, Missing character sprites / scene images / narration, the gallery

Narration in this game is very inconsistent. Each path at best will have one or two of the scenes be fully narrated, and the narration is also very quiet, and will deviate from the text (in ways other than avoiding the MCs name). When there is narration it’s very well done, massive props to the voice actor, but if the writer wanted voice acting, it would have been much better if all scenes had it or if some routes were fully voice acted and others weren’t.

Improper scenes is something that I didn’t notice too much (I skipped all content I’d scene already so it might happen more than I saw when I played) but it did happen a few times, most notable for me was when I left the bathhouse with Katrin and Corporal yelled at me from being a cheater, I didn’t do anything with Corporal at that point so she shouldn’t even be in the capital.

Again, Missing character sprites and scenes didn’t happen very often, but there are a couple of examples. In the gallery I remember two scenes having scene missing errors, right now I can only find one and it’s for Death dancing. Missing character sprites I can only recall one example of and its in the scene when you fuck Sandy with Corporal, Corporal’s sprite is missing. Missing narration happened more often (I can’t think of a specific example of when, but it happened a lot going down the harem route) and It would actually cause a Ren’py crash screen, force continuing would allow you to move on despite that however.

The way the gallery is laid out makes it obvious that the intention was to have Romance characters showing, then you click the Sphere and you have corruption showing. That’s not it’s actually laid out, some characters are like that, but many have all of their CGs on one page (like corporal and leanor), Jenny and the brothel whore are on the same tab, characters involved in multiple routes (like your sister, mother, and aunt) have all the CGs there in on their tab when it should really have it’s own tab. Lastly, characters who don’t have a Romance route or don’t have a corruption route make it so you can’t click over to the other page if you have them selected.

All of these are minor issues however, and while I feel they need to be pointed out as issues, they aren’t enough for me to take away a star from the game.

    Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed the game and will play the Devs other works. The writing is really good, I hope they settle with one art style for their future games, and make enough for a narrator. The narration when present really did add to the scene and I would love to see them return.

Similar to the dev's previous game, Fate of Irnia has intriguing setup and was actually good for a moment, until the dev decided to go on hiatus for awhile then came back with a rushed ending to the whole thing. I hope someone will take the setting of this game and create a more complete product out of it.

    Unfinished and broken.

So many errors and wrong texts.

It is not really finished ... its ended.

    ---------------

So much potential - but here still missing screens, wrong texts, errors and stuff.
For the long time the game is really short. For that you have several branches with some differences.

I found this game through S.H.E.L.T.E.R. and to be honest i did not expect to like this game . The game is simple you pick a "girl" and you either play her romance or you become her "master" ( not all girls have this option).

The game is short and the choices about the kingdom are always the same so you can skip all that stuff on your replay and focus only on different girl content.

There are definitely some unique girls( i really liked the "death" and succubus plotlines ).

Each girls has a unique story ending and if you wanna see them all this game will kill some of your time.

Hope you will enjoy this and have a nice day.

I'll settle on 4. It's got some good and unique art and fets, it's a solid game and story, but it suffers a few minor issues and one big one that drag it down towards a 3. Still despite it's flaws, it's definitely above average (I'd have gone 3.5 if it was an option).

To a lesser extent, the art in his newer games tends to be superior/improved. So is the play experience, again to an extent as the games are different themes.

The primary issue is the dev makes multiple games at once and this, his oldest IIRC, tends to take 2nd seat in development to whatever other one he's working on. So if you like this, be braced for an update schedule based less around this games continued growth and more around whatever his current main project is.

Still though... it's solid. Play it if you haven't. It is worth it. It just likely won't ever be a 5 star game and you have to accept that going in (not that 3.5-4 is bad)

    v1.0
The game is pretty short with over a dozen routes. You are expected to replay a lot to see all the different possible paths. You pick a girl then pick a specific route for that girl. each choice made disappears a bunch of other girls. This makes zero sense because it is literally a mind control game. So for example, I mind controlled this half orc girl and I got a dwarf slave.

I literally have to choose which one will come with me to the capital, the other being deleted from the game. Why? there is explicitly room, I am explicitly allowed to take as many people as I like according to my bodyguard-sister (what with being the ruling regent for the missing queen). But nope, game artificially makes you choose one to delete from the game.

It would have made sense if you had to actually seduce the women without mind control, but since you mind control them you could just mind control them all. You can still mind control yourself a harem, it is just a small one with very arbitrary removals of various women from it.

The art in this game is extremely disjointed. I thought at first that it looked like it was drawn by 2 different artists who disagreed about their vision for the game. Well, turns out it was actually 5 different artists according to the patreon credits page.
The sex scene art is decent, the non-sex art makes the girls look very ugly. Both look completely different in style and tone.
You should aim to fuck any woman no matter how ugly, as she will get a huge facelift before the sex scene starts.

The so called "final" version is just sad. none of the multitude of bugs I reported in v0.71 (prior version) were fixed.
The game is still very buggy with an utter nonsensical mess of a continuity where half the events are forgotten the moment after you do them.

    I couldn't find any difference between v0.71 to v1.0
There is a ridiculous and utterly massive timeskip that they used to just wrap it up quickly.
Basically going Prologue -> timeskip -> final battle -> epilogue. (where the results all contradict each other because they couldn't track the variables correctly)

This game is abandoned, claiming it is complete is a lie

    Forgotted

I just finished this game after playing it through a couple times.
It's really enjoyable and only takes two or three hours. It's also kind of broken into little chunks in case you don't want to plug through the whole game at once, which is really nice.

The MC can choose to end up with a few different characters which is extremely nice. They will have their own little stories but end up at the same finish line. There's also the chance you won't make it that far. I experienced a bad ending once, but that's ok.

Other than it being sorely in need of spelling and grammar checks, it's nice. I really enjoyed that it wasn't a deep story-line that I had to pay super close attention to, or follow along w background histories or stories. It's all just a nice enjoyable game that hasn't been strung out for too many months or years.

    Congrats and superb job!

    3/5 -Decent waste of time
    ~ 1 - 1.5 hours long (as of v 0.70b)

Gameplay consists of making choices. For the first half of the game you are making choices regarding your romance. This part of the game suffers because you must choose your romance before getting to know her. Looks like there are 3 incestuous choices and 3 other choices. By chance I got the best one on the first try (orc). The second half of the game involves managing your kingdom. This part suffers because of how easy it is - you always have more than enough gold to buy everything you need.
Story is poor. The general idea is good, but the writing is at a high school level. None of the choices you make really influence the overall plot all that much. The author attempts to add a Game of Thrones like element of court intrigue, but it turns out pretty bad. There is also a magical idea here where you can choose lust or love magic, but it is rarely and ineffectively used.
Porn is good. Art isn't great, but the descriptions are good. Most scenes have one drawing and 10+ clicks of text.

Overall I would say story is bad, porn is good. If you don't mind reading a bit you'll get about 10 scenes here. And of course you can play a different route for many many more.

    - Grammar mistakes towards the beginning
    - With the orc route, most scenes are just a variation on the same missionary position.

Fun, well-rounded game while not even being finished. I assume a lot more will be added given the version, however the game (for the most part) already feels complete. A lot of the content involves incest if that's your thing, and my only real complaint is that the story can jump around quite a bit, but I attribute that to it being unfinished.

The idea behind the game is solid, it's the execution thereof that simply does not hold up to par. The dialogues feel stale, as the characters are just reading from a script instead of being well "alive". And this might be subjective but I loathed the art in general, it's clunky and ugly but again - highly subjective.

The UI is general just seems like a low effort D&D session.

The characters feel kind of clunky, as if they're just thrown in there and the dev hopes it's gonna hold together.

Don't understand the high rating at all, it's an incredibly average game - certainly not bad but nothing about it is special.

Having only given it a single playthrough I would still highly recommend this game. It does give a sense that choices matter. To get to the ending I got may have been rather short but yet I would still consider it a good ending.

The fact that choices really do seem to matter makes me feel like there is high replayability, but not just that. I believe it is worth replaying to see where different choices may lead. There are plenty of games that you can replay for a different ending, but so few where you get a different journey.

That is where this game really shines. The is definately one of those games that I could and would recommend to anyone. Weather your just getting into VNs or you're like me and felt the need to make a rankings list of all the ones you've played. This is a game worth playing.

    Controversial things:

was drawed different artist . Too much quality difference.
    -short queen rout

    Version 0.68b

This game felt more complete then many games out there where the developer rushed the end just to receive the "Complete" tag.

    Story
The strong point of this game is for sure the storytelling. Placed in a medieval time the story seems reliable and your discussion with various characters over varios path give you a broad idea of what is happening in Irnia. Nothing seems rushed and the conversation you have, while are not very deep and philosofical, are good and interesting There are different paths that you can take (both romantic and with corruptio)

    Girls
The girls are pretty, with realistic bodies (yey, no shitty oversizes tits) and different facial traits. Having few other non human races depicted in a sexy way helps to this diversity.

    Rendering and animation
If you expect sex animation, sex noises or a lot of interesting things that can enrich the sex scenes then this game
will disapoint you. The sex scenes are different based on character, but there is nothing wow. What I like is the fact
that the character during sex is looking so much better then during a normal conversation

Really good! The difference in art styles from the dialouge to the actual scenes kinda clash at first but thats one of the only gripes, aside from of course that the game isn't done yet. The art style for the scenes are great. Looking forward to more updates!

Probably my favourite game on this whole webiste. "Despite" non-3D graphics, its just top notch. You feel instantly emersed, there are so sooooo many different routes and partners, you can solve situations differently. The author could introduce even more stuff. I'd be super happy.

Probably the first game, that i want to support.

Alright then. I've played The Fate of Irnia through a couple of times and it is time to make a review.

So, I will try to keep it as spoiler free as possible. I've added spoiler tags to places where the stuff becomes a bit too obvious.

    Introduction:
Before I get started, I'm aware that my review seem quite critical of the game. It is, but only because the game has good potential. I will describe all the good parts of the game - and they are very well made. But because I see the large potential, it also feels that much more empty when the game falls short. I will touch on these things too. Okay, let's get to it.

    The Story
Like I say further down, the early game is actually very decent with lots of content that still makes sense. But sense quickly disappears. I feel that the devs made the H content first, and then tried to wrap some story around it. The result is unsurprisingly quite weak. There a lot of story options which does not make sense at all or that are simply squandered opportunities. For instance, the MC is named Hand of the Queen. Why? Nobody knows. The MC has zero qualifications for that job. Hell, even the other characters and nameless NPC's comment on that; they think that it's an odd decision.

Unfortunately, whoever wrote the story is not skilled enough to develop on this. It quickly become apparent that the MC pretty much can do everything as if he was groomed to rule. That is a wasted opportunity. Why not have the MC stand out as the novice he is? He should make mistakes, be manipulated and so on. Yet he should also grow from the experiences and become more experienced.

There are also other nonsenscial parts of the story. Remember that I said that the MC grew up in a very poor home? Alright, so when he is named hand of the queen, Him and his sister travel to the capital. His sister has obtained a high rank in the military and there they meet the Aunt who is also quite affluent. Why, seriosuly, why have these two characters knowingly left your mother and the MC in literal squalor and poverty? Yet again the story is not really well connected. Indeed, the story seems to be rather misaligned, almost as if it was developed by two people who didn't know about the other person.

    The Game and decisions:
The game has lots of choices to make. That is very neat and also keeps things interesting, which also is why I was able to play it more than once. That said, most of the choice is very early in the game which in my opinion is a bit unfortunate. You quickly go down a specific route and once picked you cannot change that and few other options (if any) are made available. Honestly, that is a bit sad in my opinion.

While the early game seems very fleshed out with a bunch of flavor and paths to progress down, the mid and late game is oddly short and honestly it seems like the game isn't really fleshed out here at all. The game has some very, very limited realm management parts. I thought that was very interesting, and I had really hoped to see this game being much more oriented towards the issues of managing a realm, the decision and possible court schemes. At least there were some events which was used like that.

    Realm management
Yet, as mentioned, the early game is truly fleshed out and the mid-late game is very.. shallow. It feels devoid of flavor when you come from the early game of possibilities. It makes it even more shallow that you actually get to have some interaction with your subjects as a ruler. One of your advisors also show you a table of various stats for your kingdom which is divided into 4 slots depending on how well you do. Somehow that table is pretty much forgotten immediately after. Not to mention that actually making the kingdom work better is a complete no-brainer.

    The characters and their shallowness.
The game has pretty wide range of women to choose from. Though I think this game suffers from what most adult games suffer from: that their existence only really is justified by the fact that they want to fuck the MC or the MC them. I find that quite shallow considering that this game is a lot about characters. The game also has a bunch of incest options.
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

There are also times where, I mean, honestly things just moves too fast. This the case throughout much of the game, and certainly it is also a problem when it comes to character relations. There was one point where I leaned back and thought "wow, that was easy". The event was literally that the girl was mocking the MC for his lust after her. Then she explained why she hadn't found a partner and had children - to which I click "what about me", and the girl makes some fine points on why she wouldn't consider the MC. Then she makes a 180 and say "yeah, why not actually". She then purposely becomes pregnant. I mean.. we literally just established that she mistrust your motives, your race and that she doesn't find you suitable. Come on, it can be better than that. I mean this is literally 101 if you want to write stories: respect the character integrity. There has to an extremely good argument to break character. There is no such reason in this game.

It's a bit disappointing that the characters are that shallow. Especially considering how they initially are portrayed as characters with their own dreams, desires and agency. Though, that is quickly thrown out the window because an H scene must thrown in there.

There are also a bunch of bugs in the game that disturbs the meaning of the game play and sometimes ruins the immersion. I will detail it further in the comment below.

I usually break it down for short(er) reading, but I don't really think that it has become any shorter in this case.

    The good
    • Lots of interesting choices, especially in the beginning of the game. These choices have huge impact on the game. One could argue, perhaps, that some these choices have a bit too much influence on how the rest of the game plays out as there is little way to change your path. Still, it's nice to see actual player agency and actual choices to be made.
    • The CG scenes are very nicely made.
    • The early game is very, very well made and fleshed out. I feel that this is where the game truly shines. I'm eager to see the rest of the game have the same amount of work put into it.

    The in-between
    • I think that it is unfortunate that the game spends time on constructing a nice world and introduces you to the court, the characters there and rulership only to quickly abandon it and just letting you sit with very, very few decisions. It leaves a shallow feeling behind. Expand on the realm-management and court schemes of the game. That would also be good way to expand on the consequences of your actions and decisions - which is described to affect the whole realm, but you aren't really faced with these challenges. It would also help underscoring that the MC has no experience in ruling a kingdom.
    • The game has some consequences of the decisions, but I find them a bit too few. So, give me more of them and make the MC suffer or benefit for the decisions he make. The game already does that with some events, but except for one, they feel kinda shallow in that regard.
    • I know that some people won't like this proposal as a part of an adult game; I'd actually like to see some of the characters have other meaningful relations instead of being overly reliant on the MC making a move. That would give the other characters more depth and agency. You should still be able to make that move and ruin their relationship. That's a decision you will have to make. Or they could spurn your advances depending on past decisions and your relations etc. At least it would be interesting to play out.

    The bad
    • There are a bunch of bugs that disturbs the meaning and immersion of the game.
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
There are also times where you pick that you don't want a person as a lover but rather as a friend, but some events will still treat that person as a lover and not a friend. That wrecks the immersion and disturbs the meaning of the story. There are also events which completely removes player agency - such as deciding not to promote a character and then somehow they later say "You gave me X positions" which they then have from then on.
    • Taking some decisions will push you down a path that doesn't allow you finish the game. Imo, decisions which without telling you will end the game prematurely should be cut out or somehow mended to make the game playable.
    • The mid-late game is really shallow and feels very flavorless when compared to the early game. I think that is unfortunate as there are many characters and large parts of the world that really doesn't get to shine. It feels like you just skip over those parts and jumps from one H scene to the next. To me that is unfortunate, if all I wanted was H scenes then I'd play a game with minimal story. This game has a story to tell, and you can feel that the devs thought about it and wants to tell it. The game just doesn't do that during the mid-late game as of now.
    • Time moves way too fast and character relations becomes extremely intimate in cases where the MC might not even want them to become intimate and even the character in question seems hesitant. The some undefinable time pass and "woupsi" you are now intimate. Yes, it's an adult game, but I like some development of the characters and reasons for why they do stuff. The reasoning for them to agree to have sex are currently pretty ridiculous and sometimes it's even character breaking. I just goes to show the poor writing and that the devs feels that H scenes has to be wedged in all the time.
    • Poorly written story.
    • Breaking of character ruins the immersion.
    • No MC character progression. Despite living as a farmboy his whole life, he can apparently take up ruling a kingdom with no problems to it at all. It's unfortunate as it could be an interesting character arc where the player decide on what areas they want to improve in.

    Conclusion
And so, I've decided to rate it 2 stars, but it's rather close to 3, because it is an alright game. Shines brightly on mostly the early game and does much less so later on. It certainly has a lot of potential. The problem is that it has too any downfalls and bad parts for me to ignore. If you like a good story - which sort of is the point of a Visual Novel then you will be disappointed by this game. The story doesn't add up, the writer breaks character too often and the choices some the characters make goes against what they literally said a minute ago. The story itself seems to be rather misaligned, almost as if it was developed by two people who didn't know about the other person. It seems like the devs has decided to expand mostly on early game, and that makes sense. They've created a bunch of different paths which serves to broaden the game. That is also alright. But it has come at the cost of the mid-late game being devoid of interesting events - sure there are some few events, but they are far between. If they expanded on the decisions as a ruler, court schemes - people vying for influence and provided a deeper search for the culprit that courses problems in the kingdom, then surely this game would be worth more than 3 stars. Generally, large parts of the game quite simply feels rushed, and that is a pity, because it could've been so much more. I honestly don't think that it currently deserves the rating it has.

At first i was not so sure about this VN because its 2Dcg but then i decided to try this no matter what. It was one of the best decision i have ever made :KEK:

    Pros :
    • The girls are unique and diverse, we could choose who to romance. The dev does a good job on making other races than human looks pretty and lovable.
    • The main story is not too complicated and rather simple, what makes up for it is the romance route we could choose. Different epilogues and dialogues here and there.
    • There are plenty of scenes for all the horndogs out there :KEK: but sadly it is not animated, if it is then this VN would be up there on my favorite list
I really had a great time playing it and explore all the routes available.

I have no complain so far, keep it up

It is a simple VN but the dev Aced it!! could not wait for more routes if there is still more to come.

HAVE TO GIVE THIS ONE A RIDE!

I really like this game. There are many girls, each of them has atleast 2 routes, many of them are already completed, with proper endings. CG is good, but you can easily distinguish older and new CG . Artstyle is similar, but new ones are much more pretty.

With each girl, you have love or MB route. Good for fans of dominance kink.

Biggest problem: development is veeery slow.
