If you read about this game before, it seems they hired "artists" (thus the title) and couldn't find more to help, ran out of money, or something. Last Steam post is from July, the Discord is now offline, and there aren't any new patron posts for a while.
Given they gave the game away, for free, on Steam...I'm not exactly the best at math, but paying more than zero for gamedev, and then getting zero dollars in return for the effort, will give you...no business, but if you're wealthy, it doesn't matter.
Was this guy rich? Probably not, since he couldn't hire enough people to make the game.
Was the story great? If so, the creator should join a team (I see lots of hiring / want to make team posts on Reddit) since they did manage to make a splash with their paint enthused theme.

Yeah I still keep on eye on this thread just in case something happens. But the dev's Patreon page has been taken down, so that seems pretty final to me.
