If you haven't played it yet, hold off. In a few days there's a greatly expanded new version that's coming out. I helped come up with some of the new features for it, it should satisfy all the people here eager for the old-style Corporate Raider type games.

i would guess that most devs are incels in the literal sense, if not necessarily the 'cultural' sense

So the April version from last year had only the island but at least you could hire some more troops and make a few decisions.
The February version this year doesn't let you hire more troops and all the political/diplo/tech screen's options are WIP and thus can't be used. You can hire ministers but their loyalty will only go down. Unless I missed something you can only raise it a bit temporarily if you gift them some of the very limited prisoners.
And the April version for 2020 is only available for Patreons for now and it hasn't show up on any of the usual sites during my searches. Not that I have high hopes for whatever they managed in the last two months.
So any (preferably sandboxy) options for strategy gamers besides Leanne of Legitimate Crown 2?

Game has a good basis but is lacking most of it. You can only get to raid and ambush and move your troops around in a old fashioned Risk way. However you dont have the chance to get additonal troops because that feature seems to be missing at all. Bascially it is just a demo which shows how to move around the map... Nonetheless looking forward to a lot more content because the game is quite promising

In april 2020 version you can get additonal troops, and hire ministers and much more but there it's only linux version here.
As others noted, there isn't much to this game right now.
Mind you, it did introduce me to about a dozen Selecta games. Short puzzles for the most part, I enjoy the resource balancing more than I do in most HTML games. So, although I'm not a big fan of SoW2; Execs, Corporate Raider 1-3, and Justice Department were amusing diversions.

As it is, we have to wait for someone to get their hands on the April 2020 release and put it up for the rest of us to enjoy. Until then, we just have to wait
In the April version you can build a base, make troops, conquer multiple provinces. Once a province is conquered you can establish a governor, use edicts, build buildings. You can place your ministers into ministries and use those too.
Leaving a troop in a conquered location (farm, city, etc) will slowly heal them.
