so I heard about patreons new guidelines and that they are essentially calling all anime style stuff child pornography now(no matter the age) should we be worried? This is rather alarming if true

what will happen to most of the in development games? This is rather depressing

The source is a twitter from someone saying that patreon was now banning young looking faces, particularly in the anime style.

I saw this tweet too, but haven't seen an official source from patreon about this development

and how do they want to verify the age of a fictional character? They will ban most of anime adult stuff just to be safe.

We do not automatically consider anime-style characters to be minors. If you have questions or want clarification, you can always reach our team at guidelines@patreon.com.

aaaand how will they determine which fictional character is a minor? Will they ask the creators? They easly can say that all the lolis are 300 year old vampires or whatever.

Ask Patreon, I am not and I do not claim to be a Patreon rep. I tell you what, instead of asking me dumb questions, contact Patreon and ask them.

tl;dr: they're cracking down on cartoons with neotenous features (i.e. anime), but they can't just come out and say they're going to target an art style that traditionally comes from a specific region because that would be very bad optics.

Reading a bit back and forth about this, this only reinforces my belief that Patreon should not be used anymore. They have shown that they are not nsfw-friendly. If at all possible, I only support through Subscribestar, since they are less likely to censor stuff (I believe this is the reason Paypal would not work with them? Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Now obviously this sucks since Patreon is the largest and best known platform to support creators, but I believe that if we continue to support it then soon we will have another youtube-situation, where creators don't want to even try other platforms, since that would mean losing too much income (and I can't really blame them). And they rather conform to whatever new "guidelines" the company has decided to enforce that particular moment.

Tl;dr - If you are a creator - why not at least try an alternative Subscribestar-account? Pretty please?

Because no one has EVER gotten all of their patrons to switch over to Subscribestar or earned more money through then through patreon. That aside, Patreon has backpedaled(again) and are now claiming that the new rules ban the the depiction of minors in sexual situations.

Exactly my point! Patreon is already beginning to be too large - which is why I wish creators would have both as options, Patreon as well as Subscribestar. If I recall, when Patreon started, it took quite a while to grow it to the point it is now, so we should need to start supporting alternative platforms now rather than later when it will definitely be too late. Then again, I will never be too mad at devs who just want to make the most money possible - money, after all, pays the rent.

There's also Sponsus as a creator platform.

It has the added benefit of not being an LLC like Subscribestar, along with not seeking investors like Patreon.
