The art is pretty bad and recycled from another game, the gameplay is OKish but there are better management games out there. The story was messed up, and the game glitched beyond belief.
Try Porn Empire if you want a higher quality in every aspect management sim game. Better art, gameplay production value, way less glitchy and the management side is very deep. Ongoing development and only one guy afaik

You may think that it is higher quality, but it depends on the preferences of the one looking at it if they like it or not. In my case, I prefer Simbro because the characters and backgrounds aren't completly different, it is something that I hate in most games, and you gave the best example of it (based on screenshots). I hate it if they create some sort of depth with the background, but the objects (characters) are only in front of it, breaking the illusion without even creating something like shadows.
The thing is that Simbro got abandoned even though it has (had) much potential. It is not about using other's art, but to create a good game, and except all those bugs I quite liked this game, atleast until it took the turn in its development...
And if I am not mistaken, I think I tried Porn Empire once, but it is actually another type of management. It is about producing porn videos, but Simbro is about a brothel, in my opinion different directions when you try to compare games, what I quite can't understand why people do it.

Yeah I've played that, and I like where it's going but it lacks that certain charm Simbro has. The character/story elements seem kinda tacked on to it I find and you lose all connection with the characters once they become your mindless sex slaves. Maybe that will be different in future.
I always found the pursuit of Alice enjoyable in this, it was silly and fun.

Why ask if there is the abandoned tag in the thread name? The devs left the game behind, so obviously no, except if there will be some type of miracle. But if the same devs continue who made the last updates then I doubt that the next versions would be any better, so only the original dev could bring the game back, but the chances for that are even lower than for the last devs.
Edit: Not sure myself, I think someone said that, but the abandoned tag is added if there is a radio silence of over 3 months or a declaration that obviously indicates it is made.

Yeah the last contact with them was like August, I'm sure some members of the team are probably doing SOMETHING but there's no doubt some of them will have left, perhaps even died or something.
It's odd that they'd just give up otherwise, weren't they getting like 6k in spite of their failures?

Yeah it's pretty insane, it's amazing nobody has reported them or anything. I feel like their page should be taken down until they get back in contact and prove they're still doing...anything.
As it stands all that money is probably just paying off someones student debt and nothing else.

Well Patrons themselves, a lot have dropped their donation but it seems odd that mass amounts of them haven't reported them for seemingly abandoning the project.
That's probably a fair number that donated and then just didn't pay attention to it. Though if you want you can start making complaints to patreon, and they have taken down campaigns that were complained about not meeting goals / rewards in the past.

Why isn't there a modding scene for this game? Just curious. It's not a bad game, it just has bad developers. A modding scene could fix most problems, while adding new content, much like what happened with Rogue-Like Evolution.
I tried to mod this game. it has built in logic that prevents swf to go outside version specific filesize.
I tried versions 2.3-2.7 - all the same.
Also i found that there is some gym h-content in game. And some cell(basement) scenes, a car riding scenes. but those are only animations that have no scenes to trigger them

Wow, what a bunch of pieces of sh*t. Tbh, at this point, the interest in the game has gone so low that I doubt even if someone could mod it, people wouldn't care to.
Actually its done like that for web mode. So people could see neat progress bar while game is being loaded. Trying to remove that cause only non operational main menu since theres still an events that should be activated after loading is complete (similar to bug when you try to switch language and it brakes option.sol in save game)
Atm the only way to see gym content sex scenes is editing save file and replacing camera photo scene name with the name of gym animation. I can be wrong. Its been a while since i tried to edit that
