Overview:
Three years have passed since the day that has come to be known as the Fall of Beacon.

A darkness revealed itself to the world of Remnant. In its wake, it aimed to split her, break the spirit of her people and erase the city of Vale in its entirety. The world broke apart, trust between nations was forever damaged. Many lives were lost... But the spirit endured.

It endured and burned bright like a roaring flame. Even as evil laid his clawed hand on Remnant, her defenders left it singed and crushed. Through actions and defiance, strengthened by unique bonds between individuals of all backgrounds and walks of life. Finding themselves unwillingly at the center of it all and yet, never giving up the fight.

Three years have passed since that fateful day. Remnant, and her people, have been forever changed...

And now darkness encroaches again.

Nice. Previous game was great, I hope this will be as well. :D
I have not downloaded it yet, but I have a question: Does our choices in the previous game matter in this one? If not now, will they matter later?

Dear new people discovering JPDE.

If your coming here for porn then you've come WAY fo early. The lewd sections for Jpde is entirely crowdfunded and a game like Jpde is also very story focused and the lewd content comes with proper build up which means even if it did have lewd content you'd have to do some reading and i know what you might be thinkin my intelligent strawman "but what's da point? I can't see the booba, if i cant see the booba then why does this game exist?" Well I'll tell ya, its a sequel to a well written fan game that has a ton of love for the rwby world and characters and if your a fan of Rwby (I'm sorry for you) you certainly should give the first game a read.

The tag 'No Sexual Content' is used for games, which will never have it.
This is just blatantly wrong. It is used for games that currently don't have sexual content. It can be that they never will, or it's the first release of the game and has no sex yet so it's there so people know. THE FIRST GAME had this tag for the first year or so when it was released.

As I mentioned:

So they use it wrong.

Thanks for the feedback. Although, to put the matter to rest, I didn't make the thread myself. I asked one of the site's mods/admins to make it in my stead. So I guess the rule of 'using it to reflect the current state' instead of overall intentions rings more true.

And as others in the thread mentioned, indeed. JPDE2, just like JPDE1, will have lewds when it will have lewds. The characters are young adults so compared to the first game, occasions are going to be a lot more.

But the general sentiment of people who've played the first game is that while they came for lewds and chuckles, it's everything else they stayed for. Hence the priorities as they stand.

Also: I've had some really awful experiences trying to find and keep NSFW artists long term over the years Couple that with the high price their artwork commands, and yeah. It may look like a high hurdle but I can't in good conscience go for nsfw art that is lower quality than the rest of the game's assets.

It says Ren'Py. But the original demo was for RPG maker. Then they said they were switching to a third totally different engine. I wonder why the change.

Oh man, where do I begin! LoL

Premise: I'm the only coder/programmer/producer/director. 90% of the code comes from me.

TLDR: the better I got at coding and understanding engines, the more I realized going back to Ren'py was the better idea.

Longer version: the original original version of the game was going to be 3D in Unity. That didn't work out due to me just not vibing with the engine and C# as a programming language.

Then I tried RPGMaker. It worked better except not for Android... and almost half of my community plays on Android. This made me start really paying attention to engines and I realized: RPGMaker is archaic in its architecture and the eventing system SUCKS.

Then two things happened: I started getting better at Python as Renpy rolled out the Python 3 version and that translated into Godot and GDScript real nicely. 4.1 had just come out and using it was a blast. I managed to replicate two completely different battle systems in less than a month from scratch.

Then, as we finished work on the first episode of GalaxiA -our original game series- I realized that: if we focus on using one engine only that I'm already experienced with too, we can use certain assets and code for more than one game. Synergy. More stuff pumped out faster. Thus, the move back to Ren'py.

(Still learning Godot in my spare time. But until I'm as good at it as I am at Ren'py, I'm focusing on using the latter.)

Oh God, I was so sick of fighting by the time I got to the ship in the RPGM demo...

Also, while I have your attention, what will be held as canon from the first game? Something else I wondered was if only one member of Team RWBY survived depending on which path you took?

The reason I ask is I remember scenes like the one with Cinder where you mark her so you can control her Aura in the future. But that's an easily missed event so I wondered if it'd be held as canon in the second game or not.

Ok separate post for the review so far:

UI: too big. First off I'd move or integrate the Quick Menu better. Having the text box raised above it is blocking far too much of the art. Secondly, that text box is huge and obnoxious, but I get the idea of trying to make it look cool and techy. But dial back the size or at least provide the option to change it's opacity. The scenes where Adam is talking on the Sienna Art where he'd pop up in the lower corner is completely covered by the text box.

Action: I get you have to redo the scenes that were present in the RPGM version, but that little display from above with the icons is lazy and no one will get what it's supposed to be unless you played the RPGM version. To the outside viewer, there's no way to know that there are a large group of Fang in the room, or that others are betraying her because it's not really shown like it was when you had actors moving on the screen in the other version. You need to add more art to show what's going on or everyone is left really confused or has to draw on their memory of the show to know.

Combat System: Needs a lot of work. Using the same type of combat from the RPGM is fine, it's like having a Card Deck you're playing. But you need better than just icons of the person's face and numbers. Having to click on the icons to tell what they do is absurd, and having those pop-ups happen for the entire length of the game is going to get annoying. What I would do is get Art Icons for each individual Option, create a database or something that shows info for each party member and add the icons and descriptions there, then make that available during combat.

Also you need to code in a Combat Tutorial explanation before the first fight.
The UI for combat came up and I went "Um.... what?" So I pushed the action button and got a massive error because I hadn't selected anything (you'll need to fix that so that it says something like "No action selected" and prevents the error). And again, like the main UI, the icons are a little big.
