Can I ask quick you plan to want to get on Steam for Chimera:Bloodlines but it is on hold. I am not sure I would be in if you are putting on hold and starting another project. I think both look great and I liked the story of Bloodlines. but I'm not sure I can support that. We have enough devs cutting projects and never finishing. Then getting on Steam, I think that would really hurt credibility. So then comes changing Dev name to start new projects and build credibility. Also sandbox is just a way to not put as much into the game. That is just my opinion.

Good luck with the game!!!! but for now I will be on the fence to watch how this plays out. Don't want to get my hopes up on another game.

Before starting the main post, I want to point out another huge blunder I made with Chimera: Bloodlines. That blunder was not publishing the SFW version of the game on Steam - that was my fuckup numero uno, as it locked me out of many opportunities.

I SCREAM will be published on Steam as SFW - with an adult patch available separately. How do you make adult patches? Hell if I know - I'll figure it out as I go, but it's kinda a pain to make.
Do you need an SFW version to be on Steam? I see porn games there all the time, some of them even have porn right in their trailers.
I know Steam has issues with "visual novels" featuring real people, like Super Seducer 3, but 3D and 2D stuff should be ok.

Responding to comments before posting an update - thanks as always to everyone engaging:

It's on Steam as a Demo with the latest version, so anyone can play the full Day 1 experience.

I consider the story one of my better ones - but as the game, it's not up to my standards and requires a redo from 0, rather than being something I can fix. If I was to come back to it, I'd nuke most of it, and start again with fundamentals.

And when it comes to Sandbox - it has taken out most of my development time, it was a pretty complicated code, because of how many variables I had. That's why the new game won't have it.

Good luck with the game!!!! but for now I will be on the fence to watch how this goes. Don/t want to get my hopes up on another game.
That's understandable, and I pretty much expected this would be the most common reaction, with the other end of the spectrum sending me life threats, and another being ok with it xD On the other hand, my Patreon reaction was mostly positive - which is obviously a priority as the most dedicated community, so it's an overall win.

I played hundreds of VNs, really love the medium (not only talking about romance stuff, I read everything) - and it's just plain obvious that the first game I attempted is just not on par. That's the result of making the first attempt public, I guess, but on the other hand, my skill has significantly improved. And you need to be excited about your own stuff as a dev too.

So is that mm or mff (just the mc), if you add it?
I decided against it for now as I have my draft and the chapter 1 development started - doesn't fit as a theme

Here's the thing, Steam allows some sexual content in games (and the SFW will content stuff like nudity, non-explicit, kissing, rubbing, etc.) - but when it goes above the definition of GENERAL - they mark it as an adult only, and it limits the opportunities of promotion. The typical approach in the dev community is to have a version with non-explicit content, that won't be limited by the moderation policy, and guarantees max reach (also making the game available in Germany, Brazil and China - which adult games are not available in). You distribute the full version of the game on other platforms, with an adult patch that the user can download, install, and get access to everything.

I just made an Adult release for Chimera: Bloodlines - and my reach was significantly hindered because I published it as an adult game. It's part of the reason why the game was unlikely to be commercially viable (speaking as a new dev with low patreon subs - obviously, more following gives more time, hiring power, and time).

That's pretty much the difference, but the whole thing is pretty grey, some stuff works, some stuff doesn't. Better to be on the safer side, if you wanna to actually finish it and make it viable. A lot of devs on the forum helped me to get an understanding of it.

Got it, it makes perfect sense.

Just one thing about countries where adult games are not available: I live in Brazil, my Steam account is brazilian and Steam is full of porn. I don't remember the government ever trying to ban or tax adult games, but I may have missed something.

Let me correct myself: Brazil gets a specific 18+ tag, but there seem to be certain subjects that make the game less accessible (this is only a guess on my part). Here is my maturity rating from Steam in the last game:

In any case, the discoverability suffers overall - since you need to be logged in to Steam to check the game. I find it interesting that only Brazil has this specific thing above - I didn't get it from anywhere else.

I am hoping that the lessons of the first game will allow me to succeed - no more huge mess-ups xD

Hey Dev! I hope you're doing well and taking a good amount of breaks to relax from the developing a game for a bit! I read the rest of the replies to the thread and I'm sorry to add another one referring to chimera:bloodlines but I'm curious... How come Sara is also in this one? What's the story there?? You don't need to answer if it's a personal reason or you just plain don't want to, either way I'll be eagerly awaiting the upcoming updates for IScream!

Cause Saya is the first character I made, and I like her a lot... no deeper reason... xD I wanted to start from the complete scratch character-wise, but I ended up not wanting to delete her.

She'll be the "entity" accompanying you through the game, and you'll learn why.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

And I know I haven't been that active on the forums, or anywhere online, but the work lately has been kinda a lot, and all my free time was spent on game dev. I like the progress, but I need to be better at actually sharing and responding. My bad xD

Warmly,
FunDi.

Holy sweet Jesus, like with my last game, it's been a month of back and forth with Steam to have the game published... Also, I've been kinda lazy in posting here, because life has been difficult... Well, I'm still finding time to dev.

The build is kinda there. Just finishing up 2 extra adult scenes and two more branches... The schedule is kinda intense.

Look at this collision! Do you guys have any idea how much of a pain in the ass it is to make it? xD

Anyway, I figured I'd come back and at least respond to comments / attach cool character cards I made (are they cool?). Who knows?

Steam, please stop stressing me out and release the page already so I can post Chapter 1... I need like 3 more days to finish it, hopefully, it will work out.

Oh, and I need to update my first post with a game overview, not to myself.

Thanks for reading this random rambling as I'm on my way back home from work xD

Wohoooo, it only took me 3 weeks to update the first post with better design and images!

Anyways - once Steam approves my Store Page - I will be releasing I SCREAM: Chapter 1 on F95Zone and Itch.io

After getting the Initial feedback - I will release the Demo on Steam. Probably with more content.

Stay tuned! It's the first time when I made a game and I don't despise it after making it xD Though, it's still rather short, will keep building it up.

Following your progress, since both games were very enjoyable and have the dark atmosphere I appreciate in these kind of games. Great work, great backstories...hope to see more of it, whichever one you end up developing. And fingers crossed you may develop the second one if the interest is still there, once you're done with the first.
