Valid, I also understand that I'm not exactly the target audience for these types of games in general, (by which I mean more porn / adult centric games). What I mean by that is, I have a pretty fulfilling love life & my sexual needs are met there, so I play these kinds of games more for just entertainment & their utilization as fap material isn't really a factor for me. I've always preferred story driven stuff, but there seems to be very little options in the AAA & even indie market. My personal favorite games, (aside from a lot of the old story driven adventure games of the Apple II & DOS era), are the ones from Freebird Studios, whom have rolled out only 4 main games in the past 10 years. Outside of that, aside from the Faith series & maybe a very small handful of others, any kind of story or lore almost seems to serve as set dressing or an afterthought to the pew pew pew gameplay of the game. For example the Borderlands series had a real good overarching story, but I mean... Good by comparison to like Call of Duty, so the bar is pretty low.The story is fine at best, the game was almost identical to Indecent Wife Hana at the start (Wife gets close to nephew/friend's kid, leading to netorase and netorare) and slowly spun off while trying to hang on to the mystery NTR subgenre. I would have to do a fresh playthrough to jog my memory about the story, especially since the dev often changes some of the story and scenes, but you are mostly right about the story being generic/simple. It is worth noting though that the game is "Netorase" not "Netorare", so instead of the "excessively & unrealistically blissfully happy & so sappily in love couple are living their idyllic life, bad guy(s) enter in, force or coerce wife to start messing around with them & on they go until she's a mindless, sociopathic slut" example you give, it is more of "the MC realizes that he is aroused by his wife coming into physical contact with other men, and encourages her flirt or even have sexual encounters with other men". The netorase template can lead into netorare and often does in many games (typically as a choice in the story, Devoted Wife included).
The game would probably be better both in story and pornographic quality if the dev didn't hold on to mystery NTR so much, causing every story beat to be the MC trying to catch the FMC doing sexy stuff as she is poorly hidden/obscured from MC's view (some attempts at including swinging content have been made in the past, that story line was a bit better, so points to the dev for that, it also might have been temporarily removed, again I would have to do a new playthrough to know).
P.S. To be clear, I love the mystery NTR subgenre, but it is just not well done in this game.
However, I discovered that there's a surprisingly large number of well written VNs in this genre, despite the more lewd themes of it & in spite of the sky high volume of shovelware & abandoned / incomplete projects. I mean for example, despite the pile of nearly idential incest / harem games where the plot consists of "meet da gurlz & bang ok", you still have games like Mr Dot's "Dating my Daughter", which had a surprisingly good story. Narrowing to the NTR sub-genre, One would think that such a kink would also be useful for compelling plots as well, due to how it's a classic tool for building suspense & conflict in a story.
Anyways, I realize I'm rambling again. Sorry about that. Long story short, I'm saying I understand that the primary focus for making these games is to make stuff for horny dudes to jack off to & as a moderately pervy, but not all that horny guy that doesn't use these games for that purpose, (again due to taking care of that through more conventional means), I know that I'm not the target audience. What I don't really understand is the WIDE chasm, almost polarity when it comes to the effort in writing. I mean there's few that fall in the middle. You either get games from creators that put very clear effort into crafting a good story, or creators that more or less say "plot? The fuck is that? Just slop something easy together & ship it". I mean I get it, It's fap material primarily right? But even then, for coomers that aslo want a story, or am I nuts on that?
Let me explain. So with these VNs, even the ones that lay on the spicy content extra heavy, the fappable content makes up like, maybe 30% of the total content of the whole thing, with the rest being "filler",(if we're grading on fap value only), right? & even then, it's mostly a few still images, maybe a couple 3 to 5 second animation loops. Now contrast that to good ol fashioned porn videos, even 2d & 3d hentai videos, porn comics, etc... ALL of which are 90+ plus to 100% fap content, not to mention those other mediums are typically fully complete works, nothing to grind through, (just click start / play, relax & crank the ol hog), whereas with VNs, you gotta grind through them, you have to wait for updates & hope it doesn't get abandoned, (as many of them do), I mean, I can't help but wonder WHY would anyone choose these as their jack off material when they seem, by design, the most poorly designed for that purpose, compared to the other similar media options available. I mean there HAS to be something else that appeals to the fans of these games besides just fap value & the only thing that I can think of is the story element. & if I'm correct on that, why don't more creators lean more into that instead of half assing it so hard? It just doesn't make sense to me.
Anyway, I know that's a ramble, but I had to get that out there.
