i do believe that patron is also to blam because there stuoeid rules they make. but then they away's kill games after they get there cut of the profits. lol that's just my thought's tho
That's not how patreon works, and even if their motivations for doing so were monetary, it makes no sense to cut off an perpetual source of profit. There's a lot of legal grey area with adult material that could easily result in Patreon covering their ass by cutting off a creator dabbing in that.

it was new for me :(
Well, like was said it's been around for a long time, and Cresentia / Wolfenstal are just commissioned artists for that game. They have nothing else to do with it (AFAIK, but have seen nothing to show they have anything beyond the art involved.)

You try and continue a game when your coder takes the money and runs away without doing their work.

not the last game they have thrown, and honestly, you just kick him out and hire another one, the core is the graphics, not the code

This game wasn't the one with the coder issues though. The one the coder ran out on was unreleased, despite only needing a coder to do the work. They were doing the work on this one internally (AFAIK, though maybe a different contractor was used for it).

Hell, this game is literally only using the code and systems (with permission AFAIK) from the Moral Sword games, so it's basically only doing the art and writing side for this game.

Late, but Cres's issue is the one a lot of internet artists over the last ten years have fallen into, tbqh. They really wanted to make not-porn/webcomic of their OCs but there's literally no market for that anymore. The age of actual serialized webcomics on the internet is dead. Not just kinda dead, really, really fucking dead. There are virtually no major webcomics in the english speaking space that actually make money. The ones that do are almost all exclusively legacy comics with fanbases from when that stuff was popular. Think stuff like penny arcade, order of the stick, or for more 18+ stuff, Mana World (A series that sold itself on having, no shit, one of the hottest OC designs ever on the internet that people went fucking wild for) or possibly most famously, Oglaf.

They're trying, desperately, to recreate the success those titles had. But the thing is, they came along way too late and didn't have a good enough concept. They DID have an outstanding eye for character design though, and then they made the mistake of showing people those characters were way, way hotter in more hardcore stuff than the artist wants to draw on a daily basis. Look at their comic now, it's mostly 'story with a slice of porn' which so many creators don't understand isn't what 90% of readers want. If you're drawing a porn comic, be a porn comic. The plot should really only exist to move between porn. If you're not, stick to SFW stuff. The two fanbases don't really overlap at all. (source: I've worked with a ton of these artists professionally, the tale is always the same; They were making a boatload of cash when they were drawing pure porn, but they've since lost a ton of momentum and steam trying to 'go legit')

The drama played a part, but to be blunt I'd bet my arm the more serious issue is that most of their fans tuned out when it became clear that they were moving towards really boring, 'vanilla with maybe a tiny bit of spice' sex at most, and oftentimes big stretches of none at all. Look at one of the most successful modern porn game/artist duos, Majalis, for an example of how to make a bunch of money. Though Majalis is pretty uniquely talented as a duo, I guess.)

The real fuckup that Crescentia made imo was that they dipped their toes in, showed some projects that really got some people interested/going for being willing to do the more bad endy style stuff and games with their extremely hot OCs, and then found the water not to their liking and tried to crawl out. No, it's too late, you showed people the stuff they actually wanted- The cat is out of the bag, pandora's box is opened. Now nobody wants to see the wolf girl be cute and go shopping, they want to see her get dicked down.

Though they also clearly have a drama issue, as they're one of those creators that constantly, non-stop, has a new thing to complain about or a new gossip to share, or some interpersonal stuff that causes problems. I doubt Cres will really ever go back to making the style of content that was actually meaningfully growing their userbase, as they clearly couldn't make it happen on anything even approaching the schedule of the artists who have actually succeeded at it. They're also supposedly dogshit to work for, which given their takes on social media doesn't surprise me. They seem just generally kind of unpleasant and extremely high maintenance. Notice how, with the best creators for this stuff, you almost never hear/know anything about their personal lives. Or if you do, it's generally pretty positive and stable, not "Oh a dev ran off with all my money, oopsie!" and pretending nothing could be done and the project was doomed.

There are creators out there right now who deserve your money. Ones that don't have a borderline "If you're here for the games, fuck off" in their patreon description.

To be fair, the webcomic fucking sucks.

Even if you removed all of the porn aspects from the franchise, it would still suck. The story is crap, the plot is just there, and there are so many characters trying to share the spotlight i cant remember half of them.

The rpg worked because it had a smaller cast and slower pace. It let you get used to who you were playing as, who you met, and let them solidify their place in the story.

In the comic there are so many bitches being focused on that ferania and minori, the protagonists, feel more like side characters. Hell everyone feels like a side character! They revealed their backstory, and id call it out if it wasnt intentionally meant to be petty.

Hell i barely remember what the world building was.

The plot of the comic what from little i could fathom was "feranias evil sister is trying to turn humans into demons succubus style, and minori and ferania must stop her while going onto a path of self discovery and acceptance" and that would have been okay, but if that was all there was then we wouldn't be where the comic is now. It's like watching a Skyrim lper take on too many side quests.

In the rpg, its "minori and ferania hunt down demons who want to gas the city" and it actually stuck to that. It was only when they came out with the stupid side jobs did that begin to change.

And the webcomic tries to show us all these hot chicks you can't remember half of them.
Who the fuck are any of these people? Your showing me angels when I'm still trying to memorize the doggys. Out of every single battle babe you showed me, few of them are interesting enough to stay, and the ones that are dont get enough focus to keep being interesting.
Hell, the ocd ones ocd felt painfully slapped on when it was revealed, where she just snapped and killed someone and they all just explained it (show, do not tell) and moved on.

The rpg had 3 party members and 2 people who hung out at your house, and 1 character set up to be the villain. If they introduced more characters little by little and let you enjoy them at a gentle pace, megaman x command mission style, it would have worked fine.

Cres has so little going for them that they CANT go legit without starting completely fresh. The comic has too many clogged arteries to do anything but make your heart pump harder by giving you more spicy sauce. The girls can get dicked down, but only in the rpg can we see it go even farther. You cant have bad ends in the webcomic, but u can in the game, which made the porn more interesting anyway.

But even with or without the porn the webcomic still sucks! The rpg could have at least passed as an average game. If you want a decent webcomic, go read Prequel.

EDIT: I like how theres even a Deathblight Wiki but nothing is fucking on it. You can get at most the most MINIMUM summary of who some of these characters are, and its so miniscule that it doesn't actually tell you anything. It just feeds my claim of the webcomics lifeless story telling.

You guys took the thoughts I had and put them into words. The only parts of the webcomic I gave a shit about were the parts with porn, and I can't be fucked sifting through however many pages of "plot" and "character development" to find it. They were sat on a potential goldmine with DBRPG.

It's really just a lot of willful ignorance thinking "I'll draw in a crowd with porn and then convert my fanbase to SFW with my characters' interesting personalities and story arcs." It doesn't work that way. We came for the porn. You're not going to take away that key aspect and expect people to stick around because of how amazingly compelling your characters and story are.

Pretty much, the closest you can get is to have your main project trend away from porn slowly while having porn side projects. There's a french artist who goes by 'the kite' who's managed that fairly well though they still get plenty of complaints about the main project.

Do the comics even have a coherent plot?
Every time it feels like i'm getting a handle of who these characters are or what the scene is supposed to be, it cuts to completely diffrent people doing something else.

Maybe if I were reading it hosted on a proper website, it's be easier, but I only see their stuff on Hentai Foundry, which doesn't exactly have a great way to read the story in sequence.
... not that I actually care too. It's too long and I only got interested for the porn anyway.

I really do think a porn-game is the best medium for them, because it keeps the narrative short and contained, and the cast fairly small.

They just... can't seem to actually make one.

It was basically trying to set up a massive, mythic arc type plot. Like Game of Thrones, but the comic format and time between updates means that any narrative they were going for never got going. And by the time any would have developed you'll probably have forgotten the earlier plot already.
