I like NTR, im a sadistic fuck that enjoy misery that comes for NTR scenarios.

I can see you reading this and looking confused at the score, well at one point the ever increasing misery stoped being exciting and became boring. Imagine that you like sugar and are in a sweets buffet. They start giving you plates of cakes, a good cake. They bring more and more slices of the same cake, always a little bigger and little sweeter, at one point they start bringing you entire cakes of the same taste but super sweet.

There will be a moment in wich you either gonna get sick and stop eating or die from diabetes, this game is NTR diabetes.

The games spends hours upon hours to beat you over the head with the same message "the world is cruel, those in power are cruel, you're worthless and you're going to lose everything important to you" that it becomes just boring repetition.

there are two examples that are just agregious

Then the game has the gal to ask you to grind if you want to see true ending that isnt really worth it, except to see Ice gril call out the stupidest character in the game.

The first time between Trash and Lotia is admitedly pretty hot and is the only scene that i ocasionally go back to but is honestly not worth all the stupid lead up and repetitive scenarios.

I not only dislike this as great ntr concept done wrong but especially as a depressive story done wrong.

One thing that makes a depressive story good is hope. Give the audience enought hope to belive that despite all the shit that has happened and will happen, things can end well. Even if the audience catches up to you cycle of hope and misery (im not gonna say the other word, this isnt danganronppa), they are already hooked to the rolle coaster and are curious to see the end.

There is no hope here, there never was.

This is no rollercoster, is just a free fall of misery that eventually become either too much or too boring to be worth the time.

Alright mate, are you comfortable? Got a pillow and a drink? Then get ready cause I got a lot to say about this title, and most of it, it's not good.

Dark Hero Party is made to upset you, infuriate you, generate some thought on hopelessness, despair, and remind you that the lords of THIS universe, are definitely not conspiring for the protagonist's happiness (or yours really). In other words, the game sets itself apart from other experiences where the good guys win in the end and get the girls. This paragraph right here, sums up all the good in Dark Hero Party. It's different and wants to show you how it feels, when fate itself is against you. If you have the patience you might "learn"(be influenced by, really) a thing or 2 about right and wrong or good and evil, when playing this game.

    Moving to the bad:

    - NTR - I'm gonna be brutally honest I don't know shit about NTR, but if you ask me, 90% of what I see marked as NTR these days doesn't qualify as such in my radar. There's no NTR here. The protagonist and the priestess type heroine barely have a connection or anything in common. She is so "stupidly out of his league", that I was actually rooting for the "bad guy" to take her.

I will concede that the sister is well done, and losing someone you love, as in a close relative, also counts as NTR, but the obvious focus of the work (main selling point) is the pink haired girlfriend (sarcastic air quotes on the girlfriend classification).

    - The protagonist is a regular guy - What in the actual crap were they( the developers) thinking, when they made the protagonist, the only normal person in the world? Everyone else is super strong, was gifted powers by dragons, and has a dick they makes porn stars envious. Why does he keep comparing himself to people who are quite literally better than him, when those people got to where they are through "magical means" and no effort.

The answer is to piss you (the player) off. Let me put it this way: If my wife cheats/leaves me, to go live with SUPERMAN, I'd tell her, "honey go for it". He is stronger, faster, smarter, better looking, richer, and likely more capable sexually (doubtful) than me. I couldn't even blame her for doing so, and I would not compare myself to SUPERMAN.

You think I could exercise restraint if one of these 2d anime girls, suddenly got out of the screen all lustful and ready ? You would be wrong, and I'm not PC enough(or any amount) to claim otherwise. The stupid protagonist doesn't understand this, and he just cries in his own misery over and over again, like someone did him wrong, when they didn't. Give up buddy, go home find the second regular person of this world and marry her/him/it/other. (In the game's credit this is actually possible, but I only saw it later on).

    - The RPG side of things completely disregards basic rules and player satisfaction - It's on purpose, but that is no excuse. You (the protagonist) can't get strong in Dark Hero Party. You can't get good loot in DHP. You can't get good skills in DHP. Even your party members who are competent struggle against enemies. Why? SCALING. What type of scaling? The one that might give you homicidal tendencies. You can't win many fights in DHP, because the enemies have the power of "higher numbers" on their side (They cheat, basically).

Forget any NTR, this right here is the stuff that gets you a one way ticket to a mental health institution. The effect of disregarding a loot/level up cycle, and constant losses HAS an actual effect on the player's psyche. Sure I can take a neutral stance at any fiction, and be fine with everything they throw at me, but in this case I don't want to. I thought I hated the idea of level scaling, ever since I grasped the concept in OBLIVION, but I was wrong in thinking that was the worse that could be done. Straight up cheating in favor of the A.I is apparently a thing.

    - The good stuff requires several restarts - Why Lord, Why? They have something (very interesting) to impart to the player, but you will only see it, after quite a bit of repetition and multiple playthroughs. Now please take a look at the two negative factors I mentioned above. Add them to this reality. Now try to picture me playing this game to completion. IT WAS HELL. TORTURE. I WANT (not 1 but) 10 refunds STEAM !!!

In all seriousness this game is designed for someone far more patient and tolerant. I'm old, grumpy and set in my ways. I'm fine with mixed bags, I'm not fine with having to sort through a ton of crap, to get to the good stuff.

Right. I don't recommend this, and I'm gonna go there and say, be very careful with any reviews on the game (this one included) cause people like to parrot the same crap like it was a given truth. The NTR is not the problem here (well, advertising a tag that is not recognized by the player can be a problem, I suppose). The reversing of the formula "the universe is conspiring for your happiness", and the "good stuff" being barred by hours of misery are the problem here.

I could go on, and it would mostly be complaints. No score, but you can definitely call this one an experience (a terrible one). Try it if you feel rebellious. Don't try it, if what I said echoed with you.

This game, honestly isn't bad. I don't normally like NTR games, but I can throw that bias away depending on how things plays out. I will mention spoilers so it'll be tagged if you don't know.

But anyway, the game starts off with one of your typical MCs for these scenarios. This time it's a guy who is constantly considering himself to be weak, and others consider him to be weak as well. Story basically starts off introducing some characters with special powers granted by dragons, then it starts to really kick off the plot. But anyone that looked at the menu noticed a "despair" stat which hints at things to come.

So now we get into spoiler territory.

So yeah, the story is one hell of a train ride and I actually applaud it for trying to at least make it interesting. I do still feel like it's flawed, and honestly has even less suspension of belief even ignoring the fantasy elements. The gameplay is also somewhat challenging if you don't know what to do.

But with both it's high points and low points, I'd have to give it a 3 out of 5. And this is coming from someone that normally hates NTR. The flaws stick out too much and if you're like me even hoping for a good ending... There is one depending on your perspective, but that doesn't count as a "good" ending to me.

overall is a nice NTR game that serves it's purpose but has mostly terrible endings.

4 stars because the girls are smoking hot and the h-scenes are great for "release"

review from an avid NTR lover/enjoyer

    the good:
the girls are hot and beautiful
    h-scenes are hot and steamy
I like Tori and Aina (they deserve a happy ending)

    the bad:
    most endings are bad
no happy ending (only acceptable ending)
    I HATE Lotia

Man... I thought it's gonna be something like god-tier NTR that gonna crush my soul because I've seen so many people commenting like that.

But nah... like most average NTR this game does not give me any reason to care about these girls they are like a stranger to me, except for the main heroin her route is kinda okay cuz you don't just go straight up to RAPE.

Maybe it's just because I've played NTR RPG 1&2 first (Especially 2) cuz you know why in that game they actually make you care about the heroines and the MC that's the reason why I cry so hard when I saw that true despair of an ending from that game.

Before playing i read all the reviews saying that this game was extremely somber, depressing, rock-bottom deep, etc...

Everything I saw here is an edgy game taking itself way too seriously. With such a dark story frame you expect cunning and deep characters. That's all the contrary. Every protagonists are illogical, reacting unnaccordingly to the severe situation they are in (the MC sister providing herself the drug that'll make her and her friends sex slaves, the nun not taking her escape and the girlfriend not even asking for help when a powerful prince went to the rescue). The worst of all is by far the MC. Gosh, this poor bastard is so lame he doesn't even deserve a face! At a moment in the game, after seeing all his beloved raped and drugged, after being heavily degraded and abused, he has the opportunity to kill or at least neutralize every antagonists without taking a single risk and even consider doing it in front of his nemesis. And what does this ding dong choose to do ? He saves everyone and allow the bad guys to turn all of his girls into perfect cock sleeves while arboring a surprised Pikachu face :KEK:

After this exact moment I had no more empathy for the MC as he was responsible for his misery. I even had more sympathy for the blond macho and the loli hunter !

Porn was great tho - 3/5

Judging from my username, it's obvious i'm a sick degen who like NTR.

But this game... all I can say even for a seasoned NTR lover like myself, get hit pretty hard. This game literally deconstruct everything I expect from a typical NTR eroge to the extent you ponder and connect the storyline to how real life work. The alpha or rich get everything, your dream job, the girl you lust for, the car you can only dream of and so on.

All I can say, this is really a masterpiece.

I want to give the this experience a fair rating. but i must say this was a miserable experience to finish. somehow even more so if you want to best/hardest to get ending

The grind, the weak male lead, the rape, the depressing story.
you have to have resistance to girls being raped (it happens a lot is an understatement)
or be the type of person that doesn't mentally/emotionally invested in fiction.
at which point i ask why they are even bothering with games like this

    Gameplay
i appreciate the custom art for this, not only being in the sex scenes, but also some battles. i didn't come across many enemies i personally recognized for other games.
which helps a lot in a battle heavy game like this.

the 2 biggest issues i had with battles in this, is how weak the main character is. which adds to how depressing the fights are without other characters.
and that battle experience only is given to characters active in each battle. this means late game you will have low level party members...

    Story
Rape if i were to sum it up in 1 word. nothing that can be done about it either, it's the majority of this experience. sure there is a background evil demon lord thing that doesn't matter most of the time.
but this really went overkill for me.

when i say excessive rape. more than once a female character was raped for 24-27 hours strait. and i really mean no breaks men just kept using them nonstop.
which may make you hate certain moments that happen with that in mind.

there are several endings (about 6) 2 of which take even more effort to get than the other 4. so there is at least an ending which has some satisfaction.

    Overall
this was a painful experience to play, i am drained of joy and glad it is finally over. but being fair it was an okay experience. the art is probably what kept me going.
personally would recommend skipping this and getting the pictures.
good luck if you decide to try anyway.

Great game the story was incredible and it actually made me feel something which was very unexpected from a game let alone a porn game. The art is nice and the combat is good

This game is good for the most part, but really overhyped. I saw the reviews and most of them were treating it like it was the second coming of christ so I had high expectations. You should really only play this game for the story because h-scenes are kinda meh to be honest. The revenge half of the game is pretty good. Overall, Fuck Lotia, fuck Thrash, fuck Schum, but Grey is pretty cool for the most part.

This is probably the game that taught me "porn games are still video games". Which is an odd statement, but there's always this sense that porn games are in some way, inferior to regular games. Like the concept that porn acting is worse than regular acting or all that other stuff, because the conceptual focus isn't 'good writing' or 'emotional stuff', but instead, pornography.

Dark Hero Party flipped the script. I have never been the same.

I can't get into why without spoilers, but this is possibly one of the most immersive games I've ever played. To get the best possible experience out of this game, you have to HATE it. You have to absolutely loathe it, ram your head into walls and try to progress and fail every single time, and you need to do this consistently. You are a worm, and you must struggle.

Only then will you get it.

This game fucking changed me, man.

Game thinks it's so smart but it really falls flat. Characters do a lot of nonsense things that really do not fit with their backstories. I suspect that they do this just so the ntr plot can be driven forward, it's ridiculous. Written like a japanese edgy teenager that blames him not getting laid because of inherent human evil or some crap hahahaha

This game is a hidden gem in ntr category. There are multiple endings so you can get good bad and worst ending(if you desire) .

The story (5/5) was really engaging with a little twist towards the end. It is 3-4 hours at max game including the grinding.
Characters behaviour is realistic unlike most games. Loved the mc's sister and his friend.

In a small, unremarkable village you will find a gem like no other. a gem so pure you will be gasping for air. many people have been allured in this small, unremarkable village, and they come out of it as a different person. some say they couldn't stare too long in the brilliance of this gem, while some have endured long enough to finally see what it really is. they lived to tell about this wonderful gem, but only to the ones that they deem worthy.

do you think you have what it takes to stare long enough to endure it or will you just irk and go away at its first shine just like the others? (btw don't play this version. kagura's release is very... liberal... and way too localized. look up for the fan-translation instead. it's title is "thug hero party". I partly blame this release for why some people are giving this a low score.)

This game tears you apart and then puts you back together at the very end.
4 and 6 will stop you from having that crushed soul feeling.

Best advise is to not stop half way in this game, if you start it, FINISH IT! til one of those endings ffs or you will be doomed! lol

I love ntr but this one has its flaws, i felt they didnt let you get used to the relationships before they moved straight to the heavy stuff, could of benefited from some building up.

I am going to avoid spoilers so i'll leave it there.
I rate this 8/10 (would be 10 if more build up and if the MC actually helped his sister a bit more)

This game is a litmus test for sociopaths

If you cannot feel at least a modicum of sympathy for the MC in this game you are truly broken.

Not many erotic games that leave a lasting impression on me but this one is special.

I've played a ton of hrpgs, and this game does have some scenes that are quite hot and very enjoyable. The combat is perfectly fine, decent enough but not really enthralling. The story however, is borderline insulting to me. I don't mind netorare at all and some of my favorite hrpg stories involve netorare and netorase as well.

However, none of those games pretentiously preach to me on a high horse about all people being inherently evil and how mankind doesn't deserve a chance at redemption and the weak, pathetic MC I am thrown in the shoes of blames all of the horrible problems with the world on everyone else when in reality he just lacks a spine. This game's story plays like the deluded cynical fanfiction of an edgy 15 year old Japanese high school boy' written in his composition notebook when he's not busy hating the world for how no girl will fuck him and he's such an "outcast". Dark Hero Party thinks its dark and deep, when in reality its shallow as fuck and just throws out philosophical concepts at random with all the nuance of a Stephenie Meyer novel.

Fuck this game's story for being so on the nose and dime-store Neitsche cynical without really saying anything. When your game is porn but tries to be something more than that and have something to actually say, make me give a shit about the characters first and try not to beat your player over the head with your message you want to get across.

(Edit: I'm coming back to this way later and editing in that Hero Party Must Fall by nitrolith does everything I wanted this game to do and 100x more efficiently with much better characters, and his game's not even half finished yet.)

    manWHAT

This game was beyond overhyped and when I got to the ending I was disappointed that I let F95 commenters lead me to play this mediocre game. Where should I begin? The mechanics of the game are trash and lacking in every capacity. With no autoskipping feature you have to keep spamming ENTER to get through boring fights that you know you'll lose and long cutscenes. More on the fighting, what is the point of even making this a RPGmaker? You are scripted to lose certain fights and can win others but these wins are after the transformation. This could've been made much better in a VN related story but this had to be the pain.

After destroying the enter key even after going to save editor, the story and its characters are trash. We get the most generic lifeless MC I've ever seen in a hentai. No redeeming features and is dense to his love life. There is no type of sympathy towards this "character" from both the IG characters and almost all readers out there. The antagonists are all your stereotypical rapists who believe might is right and cue the hentai scenes.

Dark Hero Party has all the puzzle pieces to make a fantastic game, but once they're all put together, you realize that the complete picture looked like shit the entire time.

That said, if a talented developer and artist were to take this game apart, they could make this into a god-tier game in only a few months, I'm certain of that. Despite not actually being a good game, it’s actually surprisingly close to greatness.

What would those talented devs and artists have to do? Let's start with...

    1. Mediocre Art

A lot of people have been praising this game's art, and held it as a reason to keep playing. I'm a professional artist myself here, so you can call me out for punching down, but I can tell that the art here was not only rushed, but is just overall mediocre. There’s a good reason for this too, this is a Japanese game made by a company that seems to hire artists. The artist gets a quota, paid for the quota, and their motive is to finish what they were paid to draw as fast as they can. You’re not getting that artist at their best; you’re getting their bare minimum.

The penises are literally the worst I've seen in any game I've ever played. Whoever drew those? I think you need to get yourself checked out buddy. The vulvas often look great, but the art overall is low to mid-tier at best. U-ROOMs newer cames look phenomenal compared to this one.

    3/5 on Art

    2. Boring, Poorly Paced Gameplay

This game is an 'Illusion' of an RPG, that just wastes time. This is an RPGmaker game, but is it an RPG? No, not at all. This game merely uses the idea of an RPG as a vehicle to tell its story. Problem is, it gets bogged down with all the mediocre elements you'd come to expect from a bad RPGMaker game. Extremely slow pacing, combined with tons of random battles, in large aimless maps. This is especially annoying since in 95% of battles there's no chance of you losing, so you're just spamming enter, over and over and over.

There was this one sequence where the solution was such mind-bogglingly bad game design, I couldn't believe I had to do it, but effectively the only way to progress was to kill all 12ish random enemies wandering around three entire map areas.

By the time the game gets 'hard' and the game expects you to play it, you'll be burnt out enough that if you're like me, you'll just skip the combat with a cheat tool.

I like using gameplay as a tool to tell a story, and there are some parts where it really works, like when your weak main character gets swapped out with the rival chad, and you get to see their difference in power not only narratively but mechanically. Still…

    2/5 on Gameplay

    3. Inconsistent 'Skip' button.

If you're writing a story with long scenes, you better damn well have a working skip button. 'Shift', only worked 5% of the time. I'll admit, the story started on a fair high for me, there were some red flags for the poor writing that would end up rearing its ugly head, but I'm used to overlooking these things from amateur writers. But, wow, some of these scenes can drag on insanely long, and there's no way to skip them.

In one case, I'm sat here tapping 'enter' for what feels like an entire minute just to skip through an extremely long sex scene that I don't care about that then immediately repeats itself in its own sex scene.

This nearly single-handedly killed the game for me. The game scripted in the ability to hide the message window, even open a history, but no working skip function?

However, I wouldn't have had to skip the dialogue if it wasn't for the...

    4. Poor Writing

Settle down, because this might be a long one. Spoilers here, but I wouldn’t worry about spoilers when the screenshots on the OP literally have one of the ending sex scenes.

As I said earlier, things started out rocky, but mostly okay. One of the more powerful elements was what the game didn’t show in the character of ‘Tori’, and how you could get a sneak peek at her status through the RPG menus. The ‘attack’ on the home town of the primary characters was overall handled well, but I really wish the justification for the party going along with their attackers as handled better.

Now this is an NTR game. I'm not a big NTR fan, but I'm a huge fan of female characters becoming corrupted and undergoing character arcs where they go from being pure/moral to immoral. And I'm not even that picky about how it happens, it just needs to be believable. Which means this game in theory should have a lot going for me.

You’re given the most pathetic maggot of a main character to control. This massively detracts from the NTR aspect, because I can’t relate to the protagonist at all, I’m not a tenth as pathetic as he is, so I don’t feel the same burns he does. Nor do I feel particularly sympathetic for the guy as all he does is whine and sob, although major respect for how brave he was when trying to rescue Aina. But the story almost doesn’t seem to recognize just how courageous and brave the main character was, and what you thought may have become a character arc for him, ends up with him just being as pathetic as ever. You could justify that he doesn’t have much choice as his life circumstances constantly beat him down, but there’s a lot more to it.

Because of the protagonist being so unrelatable, it’s very easy to not view this as an NTR game, but just yet another dark game where bad things happen to girls. This one just happens to have some faceless guy in the corner that has a few lines of dialogue saying ‘uuu, uuu’ afterwards, and it honestly lessens the impact of a lot of scenes.

Then we have the female characters, and except for Aina and Krimina, they’re all toxic, and awful people- but I really don’t think they’re supposed to be. I just think the writer wasn’t successful in making them likable characters that you genuinely want to root for. The writer clearly had a few good ideas at first, particularly with Tori and Lotia, but eventually it just feels like one of those mediocre hentais where all the characters fuck because – of course they do, it’s a hentai! Tori and Lotia suddenly just become sex addicts out of nowhere, and for no good justification. In one of the most dumbass moves in the entire fucking game, Lotia challenges Thrash, the ‘Chad’ character that is trying to get with her, into four separate ‘sex’ battles to prove she doesn’t want to have… sex with him? Is Lotia… retarded? How am I supposed to view that as a reader? I suddenly don’t care about Lotia, or what she does, because she’s just gone and proven herself to be so beyond stupid and saving, that I’ve lost all investment in her as a character. I don’t care what happens to her at all now. And then we have this ridiculous arc where the game kinda contorts itself into such a way where it can manufacture a situation where Lotia can no longer ‘trust’ the main character only spiralled my disbelief at the dumbassery further. I might hate Lotia at this point, more than I hate Thrash. At least I understand Thrash, and his motivations. But Lotia? I have no fucking clue, she absolutely failed at her role of being the ‘main NTR’ character.

While Lotia is failing doing the only thing she was written to do, Tori also continuously makes the dumbest decisions she possibly could. One of the very first things she does is get raped, then the morning after she agrees to go on an adventure with her rapist, and that night continues to get raped. What the fuck did you think was going to happen? A little later the game kind of tries to justify this as the village ‘sold’ Tori to these bandits. I don’t know if I forgot but, I don’t think that’s what happened at all? Pretty sure Tori decided to go with them on her own accord for the sake of Lotia. The moment she does, it completely seals her fate as a character, she just becomes a boring sex object with no personality beyond having sex and wanting sex. We don’t feel her struggle, or her turmoil. She never bonds or has a moment with the main character to explore her frustrations and how she’s feeling.

There are so many missed opportunities for character development that is absolutely required for both Tori and Lotia to work, and their characters to be justified, and it just never happens. I don’t for one second believe that either of these characters are ‘real’ beyond being characters designed to be in sex scenes in a hentai game, and it’s an NTR game for god’s sake. The relationship between a strong main character and female characters needs to be the absolute core for that. You want the players to feel that feeling of dread as you hang the threat of these characters meeting misfortune over their head. But this game was so eager to jump straight into the bombastic sex that it never gave you an opportunity to get to explore the characters, or their motives.

Why does Tori keep having sex? Because that’s what’s required of her for this story to work.

Why does Lotia have sex with Thrash? Because that’s what’s required of her for this story to work.

And I don’t think these characters are supposed to be this stupid, unlikable, and flawed, it would be antithetical to good story writing to give them such flimsy, sometimes non-existent motives. I think the game really expected us to see this and take it as face value as their ‘corruption’, but it never earned it, and the sex scenes only get worse as all meaning is lost as it becomes the equivalent to browsing a random image gallery on nhentai, with x10 the clicking between pages.

And we can take this two steps further.

Why does Aina act so overconfident and try to fight an army of bandits that caused someone stronger than her to evacuate, and an entire town to hide? Because the story required that she lose to get raped. We needed to see scenes of her being cocky prior to this, perhaps to her detriment, so a pivotal plot point of the entire game rests on believable character motives.

Why does Krimina continue to fuck the bandits under the guise of ‘we won’t rape the others if you let us rape you’, while the others are getting raped anyway? You’d think maybe if she cared enough to get raped in their place, she’d want to CONFIRM the others aren’t getting raped anyway? Like fucking come on, this game has one character in the entire game that has a motive for the consensual sex scene and it isn’t even followed through?

The game spends such a long time emphasising how bad the main character’s life is, showing us so many scenes of him alone with his shitty life. But what for? I’m not here for him, I’m not masturbating to that guy. Every scene spent alone with this guy should have been time spend developing characters and deepening their relationships.

If the game could be rewritten to Tori and Lotia more time and development, this game could absolutely fucking destroy your emotions if it wanted. The power this game could hold over your heart is palpable. It could have given ‘torture porn’ a whole new meaning. But… this isn’t that game.

After the game is over. It’s time for ‘revenge’. You’ll get the opportunity to turn back all the misery inflicted upon you by the other characters in the game. You’ll have a series of vague, non-specific choices that can lead to six different endings. It’s really annoying to guess how these endings are going to go, spare one random guy in one ending and you’ll somehow get the ending where you hook up with the Dragon girl. The choices and the ending you get are extremely random. It’s so convoluted that there’s literally a guide on how to get them all in the game. Really wish they found a better way to deliver this content rather than forcing you to fuck around with saves.

The game tries to get really ‘deep’ at the end, as two pseudo-gods that I suppose were kinda foreshadowed, begin a philosophical debate on whether a world of hedonism and passion is preferred over a world of without love and passion. Making implications that almost all violence and hate comes from humans having passions. Which is admittedly a good place to start writing an interesting story…

But yes, they manage to fuck up even this part of the story too, it was just forced in at the end rather than having the gradual build-up it needed. These weren’t ‘themes’ of the game that came up in several conversations, no, all this is dropped in you in the last 10 minutes, and only in specific endings.

And finally, at its worst, the game not only has themes of encouraging toxic relationships, but also defends rapists at times. Like, “Oh! He’s raped tons of people, and abused me, but he’s a good guy!”. Uh, okay?

The story gets an easy 1/5. By far the biggest missed opportunity of the entire game.

    5. The Bare Minimum:

This game did the bare minimum everywhere apart from that mentioned above. Basic RPGmaker tiles, and extremely few custom NPCs. But even default RPGMaker assets can go further than this game. The main town is a perfect example of how NOT to do a main town. It’s overly large, boxy, and empty. There’s nothing to do here except walk from one end to the other, and it takes way too long. It’s evident that whoever designed them does not have a good eye for map design or aesthetic.

At one point you can walk into a bar, it’s a boring rectangle with no art direction, and LITERALLY all 10+ NPCs in there use the same model. I didn’t even bother talking to them, but I doubt their dialogue would have been much more interesting, because no NPC ever had anything stimulating to say. It could have been a great opportunity to add some character to the game, some lore, some worldbuilding, some easter eggs. But this game had so little personality.

And personality is absolutely what a game like these needs. Anyone reading this played LonaRPG? Now that is a game that matches the visuals with the aesthetic. Dark, grimy, gross feeling game. You just can’t get that using basic RPGmaker assets. No effort was put into lighting the maps, and I’m pretty sure that would have been possible, and could have gone a long way because for some reason the game is just perpetually extremely bright daytime. Certainly kills the ‘crime-ridden city’ aesthetic they seem to be going for.

    6. Outdated Engine:

This game was released in 2015 but still uses an older, clunky RPGMaker engine with poor functionality. I can excuse this slightly, since RPGMaker MV was only out for 5 months prior to the release of this game. (Although this game isn’t 5 months of work, I can confidently say that.)
