VN - Ren'Py - Onhold - Courtship: A Dance with Love [v0.3.1] [Professor Historian]

This one's a fresh breath here. Don't often you get these kind of games here got anice story and lovely ladies. But there scenes you may miss due to the trait system. Certain traits need to be higher to trigger some events also to perform some actions. I enjoyed the date with the girls. Ofc Duchess Anne is my fav girl sadly there's not much content with her. Will queen become a LI in the future? Love to see that happen though. Sadly this one's put onhold. Seems dev is now working on another short project. Hopefully they will continue this after that. Don't want to watch this one getting abandoned.

NB : there is Higher chances players will miss some contents due to trait system. So it will be nice if someone did a walkthrough or a mod for this

Overall I enjoyed the game. If you like playing story games definitely give this a try

So far I like it a lot. There isn't a lot of content yet and even less sex but the story is captivating. I have high hopes for this game. The characters are interesting and varied, the writing is excellent. Very little grammatical errors. A good start.

1.5 years ago I held off on giving a review, my comment at the time was

"Concept seems good, but there is like zero content. You start the game, say hi to maid, talk to mother and friend and then game ends... I barely seen a new release with such little content."

Well, here we are 1.5 years later, I have given the game more than enough time to finally give a rating. Some content was added, albeit quite a small amount for the time given, and there is a grant total of 2 (TWO) lewd scenes (a crude 2-second BJ loop and a crude 1 second HJ loop), I could not even trigger the second one as the game has a hidden attribute system and arbitrarily locks the tiny content it has out if you happen to have the false attributes.

I still do like the concept, and the writing is decent, the characters seem to have potential, but there is just no meat still. As an erotic game, it's a flat out stinker as I mentioned, there is nothing here, still.

At current pace, I would take another look maybe 5 years down the line to get even remotely any content.

It's a strange thing to review, seeing as how there's barely any content TO review. I'm essentially reviewing the first two or so chapters of a book, which means essentially nothing of note has happened. It's entirely prevalent on the actual content this is setting up.

For the people who want to know about the sexual content, according to what I've seen in the current version {0.3}, there are 5 separate instances of nude models of some of the love interests (counting 1 dream). That's it. Look, don't touch. I was hoping we'd get to at least see the Marquis go to a brothel to accommodate the desire not to rush the love interests, but oh well.

Story-wise, honestly it isn't bad. It's a good set-up and the love interests seem decently diverse. They each have their own motivations and personalities, even if some are a bit middling at the moment (Jane and Sarah come to mind), but again it's early in. My only concern is as time goes on, if the content is just dripped more and more rather than an escalation in the content being made.

Visually it's not bad, not much to complain about there. It fits the style of the writing and setting well.

One extra note, I hope that there are people who you can use as "side chicks" that are seperate from the potential love interests. I'd like to see the Queen be used as a potential love interest or 'dalliance', but even someone like Elinor's mother too. I think including older women to be potential sex partners makes a game more interesting and diversity is always a bonus, even the mother's model isn't too bad (although fitting her into any sexual aspect given how nuts she appears to be would be difficult).

Overall I'd rate it a 7/10, which on here constitutes a 4/5

Well, I will agree with all the oh so helpful reviews talking about the potential this game has.

It does have a lot of potential, however potential is just that, a possibility, nothing guaranteed or certain.
More honest and I think useful is to review the game as it is now.

The setting is pretty original, I don't think I've played any game set up exactly like this here before.
To have you basically court ladies for marriage as the heir to a noble family definitely is interesting.
In the execution, however, not everything is as promising or great for now.
The writing can be good at times, sometimes it is a bit too on the nose and at other times it actually reads quite uninteresting.
I can't help but feel this should be a little more exciting, especially with the whole serial killer stuff.

The women are also a mixed bag, and I don't mean because of my personal preferences, of course I have those, no again I go by what is in the game, some of the dialogue coming from the ladies is very stiff, some does seem uninspired or rather just weird.
I don't see fe. ANY lady in this time just telling a potential suitor that he would get to fuck her, her sisters and her mother.
Even if she wanted to convey that, she'd probably at least express it a bit more poetically. Still direct, but not so terribly plumb.
If anyone outside the MC heard this, the family might just be completely ruined.

Another thing that I didn't like that much was that we are only so little into the game, and we are already severely limited from seeing/doing all we want to do. I get that if we can't pursue all women and do everything, we will reach a point where we will have to constantly decide what to do, but let us get to know the women first, all of them, BEFORE you start restricting access to their content.
As it is, I would basically already have to do four playthrough always just concentrating on one trait to max that out and open all content for it. I can't say no to one thing and yes to another, because then I won't have a high enough respectability to get that choice/option.
Again, it's logical that this would happen at some point, it just seems to happen way too early here.

When it comes to visuals the game is pretty basic, clothes and sets are fine, but the lighting and shadows, the quality of the skin, the colours, all that is rather on the lower end of the spectrum.

TL, DR: The game scores when it comes to premise and setting, it does so-so on writing and dialogue and is a bit too hard in choices, and visually it really is below average, not in content, but in the quality of the content.

All in all this would make this an around average project for now, rated a bit higher due to the setting and story.
The game INDEED HAS A LOT OF POTENTIAL, if the mentioned aspects improved this could be a game actually DESERVING of all those five-star ratings, right now though it's a bit above average.

I hope this review is a bit more useful to decide if the game is interesting right now, than at some point in the future when it might realize its potential.

1. Updates are short
2. Renders need polishing cuz they don't have a natural feel to em.

Verdict:
I would wait till there's a solid plot in next few updates.

This has earned a five-star rating so far, though the content is limited at this time.

The approach to storytelling and gameplay is unusual in a satsifying way: it's set in the "Regency Era," which took place in part during the Napoleonic wars (I had to look it up). The MC is a noble who needs to choose a wife. His stats affect his choice--a love interest who desires a "respectable" mate will require that the MC have a certain amount of "respectability" points and so on.

Grammar and visuals are good, and the love interests display very different characters. It's worth checking out if you like an interesting story or are a history buff.

This is really awsome! There are far to many college games out there and few games with a story setting like this one. With this game you travel back in time to a story setting atleast everyone has imagined at least once in their lifetime. The creator; Professor Historian is of the sort that takes h*s fans opinion the highest from what I've seen this far. The possibilities this game has for the future is truly many.

This game takes us back centuries and gives us an estate to manage and a bloodline to secure. And from the conversations I've have had with this author and creator, h*s vision for the game is astunishing. I can truly say that I will support this game for years to come if the game could, and I pray it will grow so much.

It is a very interesting novel with a great plot, it mixes social aspects of the English aristocracy of the 19th century with a lot of romanticism and also mystery and forbidden and hidden passions. He invites you to feel like the MC and you wish it would never end, although unfortunately it is very short at the moment. I hope the best for this great artist, whose way of carrying out his work reveals a lot of maturity and talent.

This is a universal good, but a touch short and just starting out. (Review from .2.2 version). There isn't really much porn in this porn game for now and this might be a bit too wholesome for people as this is a pretty old school way of romance and things move slow. Alot of focus on story, it's a nice change of pace. The setting and everything fits like a cozy blanket as you feel sucked into a Harlequin romance novel. Things end on a cliffhanger to set up PH's next update too.

Wishlist: I really would like to see an ending where you could marry a bachelorette and keep at your maid on the side and impregnate her. Pregnancy (PH says he wants that included tho).

Cool start to a game. It's fun to play something different. The historical era adds an extra flavor to the game and I haven't really experienced anything like it. I like that there are different personalities and looks to the LIs. It seems that your personalities/goals will need to match which is a welcome change to the every LI is instantly wanting to jump you. Strongly suggest if your into romance games but could definitely see something for the debauchery side as well. There also seems to be mystery and intrigue to the story that should add nicely to the coming events.

So far so good. Always wanted a game playing a noble and romancing damsels. Characters all seem pretty realistic to era that they're from. Setting is very unique and not definitely not something you see everyday.

You have stats and they seem to matter depending on your choices, the best thing is there is no boring clicky grind in the gameplay, stats are from choices only. I liked how the decisions could bring you close to someone but farther from someone else. However there are no MILFs, even the duchess who is described as being 'old' looks in her late 20s.

My only suggestion is perhaps not making an excessive number of characters in the game as thats hard to keep track of and the current set of LIs will get less dedication.

Has a lot of potential with a historical settings that isn't very explored in the AVN genre so I hope people see that enough to give it a chance and the time it needs. Too often people will just dismiss a game out of hand for not having enough content without fully seeing the promise behind it and giving it an honest shot. Patience is the key, and more developers should be rewarded for doing something new and unique like this I think

Models: The bodies don’t seem too diverse, but they're also under lots of fancy clothes. The faces for the more minor characters are noticeably worse than those of importance.
