Thanks there will be plenty more. :)

I render to 98% convergence, and Quality set to 1. I was told there is no real need to go with quality higher than 1.

You probably have a lighting issue if you have that much grain after 5000 samples. Each of the above images took about 10-15 minute to render and no more than 1000 iterations. I use ghost lights to light all my scenes now. They are super fast and do a great job in low light situations too.
Funny enough, I just grabbed a set of ghost lights to help with renders the other day. XD
Also grabbed the dForce hair simulation stuff (and found out some old hairs simultaneously look fucking cool and kind of atrocious when you run the simulation on them - hair texture directly on the scalp to fill looks sooo bad once the geometry moves) to try out making the hair move properly.

From what I was reading, though, the quality number can impact final image quality, but it's not necessarily going to correct noise. It could help a little, sometimes, but would really be more about somethign like color accuracy. What I was reading essentially says that it's the number of light rays that determine when a pixel is converged, which will average into a more accurate value. At one, the first light ray to hit counts as converged, at 5 it takes 5 rays. This also means it's essentially a linear increase in render time - at 5, the render takes right about 5 times as long. So it can be good for really high end shots that you want to be perfect, but not so much otherwise. I don't mind setting it for 5 if I'm gonna walk away or go to sleep or something while it renders.

I'm playing around with the dforce hair stuff myself, it has the potential to be very useful. Some hair scalps are better than others. Also if you don't run the simulation on all the hair surfaces sometimes you can get better results. If it can make longer hair more useful it'll be a godsend.

From what I can tell, while the convergence is about how close different passes of a pixel have to get to be considered done, quality is the quality threshold of each of those passes. So it does of have an impact, but it's an extra layer of quality beyond getting rid of grain. So if grain is the problem someone is having high image quality it only compounding their issue (At least that's what I take from what I've read about it).

Usually I post here very rarely, but admire the work of the diligent render specialists. Today it's a exception. I Like to thank celtic1138, who has done an extension for my Lisa's Photo-Session, with -believe it or not - 130 phantastic images. He sent me the images direct for my mod (not yet shown here)

Since I do not know if he intends to post this here, everybody who is interest to see them, can take a look at and play it, or viewing only the images.

Last but not least one sentence off topic: I wish all Moderator, Modder & Fans of BB a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year

It looks like you used the camera's headlamp. If you turn it off and set up classic 3 point lighting instead, it should look a lot better.

Its Max, i am just finishing a complete story-mod telling about max and ann are going out. Quality isn't of course on a high level. But i am still trying some stuff :)
