It seems that they are making a new game. This one is on hold.
LOL Are they serious? What would be the reason behind it?

Edit: Just checked their Patreon page. The reason they put this game on hold is another game they start developing from scratch. Who can guarantee they won't do the same with this new game? Starting the development of a new game without finishing the previous project is kind of a fuck you to their patons. I wonder if their patrons were not fond of the direction babe runner heading and that was the reason. Hmm...

The actual reason is that BR "as too good to be left without a proper Pro writer, so I've decided to wait until funds would allow us to hire one"

Basically I think they expect to make more $$ from their new game where you sex romp with multiple popular characters, vs. Babe Runner where you play through a bunch of references to Blade Runner and occasionally sex.

Babe Runner was a very good start to a game, but I can understand how they might find it hard to finish. Hopefully developing the new game goes smoother.

What a shame... I liked this game a lot. It`s rare to stumble about something different and fresh in the sea of incest games. I hope they finish this game in the future. Maybe the more sex oriented game will fund the more creative one :D

Exactly why I'm increasingly losing faith in creators on Patreon. :idontcare:
I follow creators for a good several months, before pledging support to them.
They treat our hard earned money way too frivolously. :noexpression:

Patrons loved the direction Babe Runner was heading and the majority of them didn't feel fucked and stayed, I promise.
And that's not because they're idiots or they didn't care enough about Babe Runner but because they've been following me from day one and they knew how much pain I went through during development. They might not be a thousand patrons, but we've built a strong bond based on TRUST and they mean the world to me.
Because They've chosen to support MY WORK, no matter what my work is about.

The actual reason is that BR "as too good to be left without a proper Pro writer, so I've decided to wait until funds would allow us to hire one"

We're pretty confident it will succeed, and not just because "popular chars".
To my knowledge, there are no successful "popular-char-based" sporting an even remotely advanced code structure as Babe Runner had and in general, they're not featuring anything actually cool nor even "never seen before in Renpy" like Babe Runner did.
So if you take the "Babe Runner factor" and you mix it with a "mass appealing game" concept, chances are you're gonna have a winner on your hands.

What a shame... I liked this game a lot. It`s rare to stumble about something different and fresh in the sea of incest games. I hope they finish this game in the future. Maybe the more sex oriented game will fund the more creative one :D
That's the spirit. Thanks Macheto.
Evidently, many people just don't get I didn't waste 12 month of my 25$-per-month life to call it quit a month after release just to grab the money and fuck patrons. Fuck who? And how much are we even talking about, here? An hundred bucks at best? Wow. If that's a "cheater creator" then you guys should prolly take a better look at those sneaky "6k per month/1 update a year" Patreon creators. You might be even supporting one of those. Be careful.

Exactly why I'm increasingly losing faith in creators on Patreon. :idontcare:

Then you should've prolly followed me.
You would know by now that the moment I felt BR was not making any progress, I've even paused my JUICY (frivolous) 25$ per month campaign.

Since like February.
Un-paused it on release date (so after FOUR months) and put the game on hold like a month later.
I agree, that's treating your hard earned money way too "frivolously".
Luckily enough there are many rolling grands creators who treat your money less "frivolously" than I do, robbing you blind with their 10 posts in 12 months: 9 full of excuses/fake real life issues and 1 featuring a lousy update.
If I had less dignity than I got, then that's exactly how "frivolously" I should treat patrons money.

You're right.
ACTUAL Developers "need to get their shit together" because there is people who keep on mass-funding overrated hacks who pretend to be developers just because they've managed to copy and paste some poorly edited renpy cookbook recipe:
The struggle to make a living is real. Thanks for understanding.

P.S.:

Babe Runner lives.

The amount doesn't change the fact that people are joining for specific a project (are you implying that there are bigger patreon pages to rant about? Believe me, I rant about others too). They pay to see it through and have a game, not to have spent 20$ over 4 months. for a 0.2 version of a game with partial mechanics and then have the creator move on to something else. I appreciate your candor and the fact that you had the decency of pausing charges while the game wasn't making any progress. But, while some patrons might be happy to see you having a certain creative freedom, which the creator would naturally like to have for himself as well. Others might prefer to see consistent updates and projects that get somewhere eventually. (Obviously you have seen for yourself, at least in this very thread, that others here share my opinion on that.)

A strong bond based on TRUST is great, and it is indeed something that I look for in every creator I support (some let you down sometimes, others prove to be trustworthy). But TRUST might hold a different definition for some.
And a creator with a passion to his work is admirable, but to a certain extent, and not on the expense of consistency or coherent planning. (I'm not saying that you are like that, I haven't followed you long enough to pass such judgment, I'm laying out my different view of the subject in general, same way you did.)

And while you mention your patron base as also being small... Then yes, Of course it will be that way, rarely do patreon pages blow out and get huge over night. And believe it or not, but most are growing slowly and steadily because they make a name for themselves, for their work, their schedule and their work plan. Others also have a head-start because they have something to show for, like a previously released game that was made entirely independently and free. I'm usually very disappointed if a creator is forced to abandon or put a project on hold. True, sometimes we fall victim to external circumstances beyond our control. But as soon as a creator is beginning a project and people begin supporting it financially (in order to see that project to the end), then it is a commitment. For both sides. (At least that's how I see it in an ideal world.)

And the fact that I posted my thoughts and voiced my frustration\disappointment here, it is only because I enjoyed the quality of your work. Once I would've seen you maintaining the project regularly, I would've gladly supported it myself.
You hold your creative freedom above that aspect. Which is great, and probably even healthier for some. But... Not all patrons are there to support you "no matter what your work is about", some will not like every single project you make. After all, you can't please everybody.

I will never stress this enough, apparently: Patreon is NOT Kickstarter. Some of you guys are still worryingly confused over the matter, it seems.

"A creator with a passion to his work is admirable, but to a certain extent, and not on the expense of consistency or coherent planning"
So..You believe something even vaguely resembling Babe Runner could've happened in less than one year without both "consistency" and "coherent planning" behind. Riiight.

"Sometimes we fall victim to external circumstances beyond our control. But as soon as a creator is beginning a project and people begin supporting it financially (in order to see that project to the end), then it is a commitment"
Again, you're talking Kickstarter here.
Oh, and believe me...A LOT of "external circumstances" happened, more than you or my patrons will ever know (I didn't tend to publicly moan about them on Patreon, even if it's such a common practice I reckon) but "commitment" saved a project than anyone else in my situation(s) would've prolly just DUMPED.

And believe/understand it or not, placing it "on hold" -because I got greater expectations for it- being part of that "commitment".

"Not all patrons are there to support you "no matter what your work is about", some will not like every single project you make. After all, you can't please everybody"
...Worry not, as I don't even try to. :D
I don't want the ones you described (or anyone like them) to be my patrons. ^^
That's exactly why I've strongly encouraged (kicked?) patrons who expressively joined because of BR to leave immediately. "Actions speak louder than words" and all that, you know.
From Patreon Post said:
  • BABE RUNNER IS ON HOLD;
  • If BABE RUNNER was the only reason why you've started pledging, please DELETE your pledge right now;
  • BABE RUNNER IS NOT CANCELED, BUT DON'T EXPECT ANY UPDATE SHORTLY;
My Patreon page is a "tip jar".
But should I ever land on Kickstarter you'll be the first to know, I promise. ^^

Now speaking of "coherent planning":
if y'all would excuse me, I got next best Superheroines game tech-demo to deliver by the end of the month.
I'll be eventually hitting this board again eventually (or never again because "shit happens", "life is strange" and all that).

Regards.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
Bottom line is: People who have initially supported you because of Babe Runner, who gave you their money (even if it is a measly amount in your eyes), have essentially wasted that money. Because you decided that they should support you whatever it is you feel like working on, and I don't care if they ever see a finished project. (Until you prove otherwise.)

On a side note, some Patreon pages do act like tipping jars indeed. But the main difference is - everything they create is entirely free. No exclusive content. No private updates. And in such cases you have utterly no place for complaining if the creator changes their plans.

No No. Bottom Line is:
You haven't pledged a single dime the whole time, got BR for FREE and still complain! :D
And funnier thing is, I'm still waiting to receive such an harsh feedback from those who actually pledged the money I "wasted". :D

Now.
I'd really like bothering replying to these unfounded assumptions of yours, but like I said I'm currently too busy to waste my time explaining you that I "decided" for a Tip Jar approach from Day One (so whoever pledged was well aware), that I didn't get any new patron "because BR" during the whole dev time (I started arranging Raffles, so no BR fan money got wasted, I'm afraid) or that I'm an Hentai artist and I can't exactly post public updates containing porn on Patreon (H-games happen to feature porn, ya know) or even lecturing you on the difference between "CANCELED" and "ON HOLD".

You just had me thinking: that's because you loved Babe Runner. Wow. I wonder if you hated me, man. :D

Relax/take it easy/Drama is bad for your health/life is good and until next time, buddy! ^^

I have supported others before, who have switched projects and had me waste my time and money. That's exactly why I did the right thing by not supporting you either. Live and learn.

You just keep on throwing the blame around for not being as TRUSTworthy as you claim to be. That's the real attitude you need to maintain.
