Well, the reason to be learned here is: create a legal company, especially when the costs of your 'side project' raise up to $6,000 per month and you seem to be getting that money (and even more, I guess, if you were able to keep it running for more than 4 years) from donations. I mean, this paragraph is extremely annoying to me:
This means, as of now, we have lost all ability to receive payouts from our fundraising platforms, so are unable to continue paying the $6000 server bills. We’ve looked at other options like other crowdfunding platforms (the majority use Stripe/Paypal/Payoneer), accepting credit card donations directly (ideally need a legal entity in US/EU for VISA/MasterCard), crypto (not widespread enough/sustainable), registering as an LLC in US or EU (having to deal with sales tax/VAT/international tax law/IRS/etc), and ultimately we’ve come to the conclusion that there is no realistically viable alternative at the moment.
Like, c'mon guys, really? Creating a legal entity or a LLC in order to get access to credit card processors (while, of course, start paying your taxes) is not 'realistically viable' for people who were able to cover a $6,000 monthly bill via Patreon donations? Oh boy, the nerve of these people. It was a great service, though.

Zippyshare is shit for europeans or germans specificly because they simply locked us out and a lot of people don't know what ublock is so they'd gather all the nice viruses from there. It would be ok already if more people would use workupload, pixeldrain (or what its name was) and mediafire. They might not be the fastest but at least they don't slow you down like other sites and they don't throw malicious popups at you.
workupload, and mediafire are slower than a snail in a snowstorm.

I understand they have a lot of pop-ups on zippy, but viruses I haven't seen shit, or you gotta be real dumb to get one *shrug* shame about the lockout part of it

1) why do you think their other payment methods were mysteriously disabled and why do you think the same wouldn't happen to visa/mastercard?
2) this was a side project, doing more stuff also requires more of their time and attention. i could start listing the amount of such projects that the maintainers decided to close down because they just couldn't be arsed to keep it running anymore. just last year sadpanda temporarily closed down because of that but people pestered tendonman enough that he pulled through with it.

RIP, most reliable fast download site.

Was worried after the last week or two, servers were sporadically offline.

Fuck those credit companies. Seems shady as fuck, like some fixed market thing. Google Drive probably to blame.

As for 1, I'm also curious what's the real reason behind this. Even the hated Paypal, Visa and Mastercard have a legal base when they do this to Patreon and our beloved game developers. A questionable one, but it exists - they can be prosecuted for financially helping illicit deeds. So what I wonder is what Mediafire and other hosting sites are doing differently to not being molested by this kind of 'arbitrary' decissions from payment processors. Maybe being a legally established company helps, after all?

As for 2, there's nothing wrong with that choice. But if that side project of yours go big (as it was the case) and you're not willing to act accordingly, just say it. There are objectively viable (and cheap, and fast) alternatives to solve this situation, it's just they don't want to use them. I can't really feel sad for you when you have the chance and you actively choose not to take it - in fact I'd be annoyed at you, especially if I think you were doing a great job, as in this case. There are quite a few developers in this forum who are earning a fraction of Nopy's money with this side job of theirs and yet they are legally established in their respective countries as professionals or LLC or whatever legal entity they need in order to be tax responsible and so on - even if lewd games are not their main income source. Nopy people have chosen to close business to not be bothered with this, and that's OK. I can respect and even understand that, but I also think they are the only responsibles for this, not victims of a Paypal's devious plan.

Workupload and mediafire are faster for me than stuff like mixdrop and so on.

As for zippy, i've seen some people complaine about malware in the popups, like i said people don't know what ublock is.

there are 2 possible reasons other platforms might not, on the surface, have problems with it.

the 1st answer is that they do in fact have problems with it, but they are an actual company and hire a legal team to fight back such disputes.

the 2nd answer is for the same reason thepiratebay is still online after all these years, jurisdiction and obfuscation.

Oh? Do you happen to know where nopy owners are located, that you're saying like it's not a big deal? There are literally dozens of countries where having a non-standard small business is a bureaucratic nightmare and you will be visiting tax office more times a year than you can count, not to mention being complaint to other regulations. 6k$ income from business perspective is often not enough to justify all that, especially if that wasn't their main activity.

If I'm not mistaken Nopy didn't have any terms of service/abuse policy. IIRC there was an abuse contact email, but no actual policy of what is considered abuse or not allowed. Meaning any content is fair game. Unlike someone like Mediafire who discloses what isn't allowed. No clear form of content regulation, I'm pretty sure that is a big red flag for Paypal, Visa, Mastercard.

Sure I don't know where are they from, but if $6k monthly bills are not enough money to justify a little entrepeneurial effort, I guess they are not from a third world shithole. They were paying +$6,000 monthly only in server costs, I doubt there would have had really serious problems getting a competent lawyer in whatever country they are located or would like to operate, for a small fraction of that amount. Plus creating a proper company wouldn't be a cost but an investment that would have allowed them to get even more income - of course, subject to legal scrutiny. They simply didn't want to make that step, and they have all the right to do so.

It's a damn shame No.py is gone. Hopefully people start using Zippyshare more, they may have a few more pop-ups and ads, but they always have a good download speed, and don't seem rate limited (fuck you Mega).
Issue with Zippy is that their links often gets put down :(
