Yet another dev giving up before finishing their project. This kinda thing is exactly why I'm not releasing my story until it's completely finished. No milking anyone on patreon, either. Just "here it is". What a huge disappointment.
If the story is half as good as the name it should be great!

Well I hope that your life goes smoothly enough for you to finish your project. If you had read a few posts above you would have seen that the dev was struggling in their real life with various problems and at least had the class and courage to actually admit to that and post an apology for not finishing the game. Lets hope the same applies to you as you never know what's going to happen in the future.

Everyone has problems. Welcome to life.

But once you start taking money, you change the equation. Once you start taking money, you now have responsibility.

This dev may have the most valid excuses in the world. It doesn't change the fact that it's a huge disappointment to many of the paid supporters and backers of this project. And unfortunately for the dev, this stuff happens constantly with adult games, even more so than non-porn games. Dev starts a project, gets some money, loses interest or they run into various "real life struggles", and they quit. It happens all the time.

So again, unfortunately for this dev, even if their struggles are legitimate, even if their reasons are just, it's still just another disappointment in the constant barrage of adult game dev disappointments. Except with this one, they actually had a unique idea, a really solid foundation, and are just leaving it completely to die without even attempting to wrap up loose ends.

And as far as my project goes, it'll be finished. Granted, I may die before that time and it will go unreleased, but at least I won't take people's money for it before that happens.

I get your point regarding the money, but once Brick stopped producing updates he paused all payments from his Patreon account so no one was charged from the moment the updates stopped. I think that your post may heve been better placed on one of those devs who do stop production but keep milking their Patreons rather than one who was completely honest and up front from the start.
And, as you so elequontly stated, "everyone has problems so welcome to life" well that also applies to the people who loved his game and others so they will just have to get over the disapointment that the game won't be finished and find someone else to support.

Just curious, is it possible for a dev to adopt ownership of the game, or would they have to start from scratch?

I would think you'd have to get permission from the original creator (preferably direct written permission that can be referenced).

The best thing to do would be to try to contact Brick and see if he'd be okay with you taking over development of the game. If you're unable to reach him, or if he says no, then you can just reverse-engineer the game and create a new clone of it. Though if he says no I'd be careful about the images as they might be copyrighted.

There are several games on F95 that are currently being developed by someone other than the original developer. Most with the blessing of the original author, some as unauthorized copies.

For the record, I'm not referring to myself, but I'd really like to see more of Danny/Dani.

There are many of us that would love to see this game brought back to life. It has/had the best writing of any game on F95.
I agree on the writing part. I was sad when I read the dev stopped. I understand they had their reasons, I was a backer for a long time and read about their struggles before, so it wasn't really surprising. I would love to see it come back to life as well.

How can I go about “taking over” this game? I hate to see it sitting abandoned for so long with such a great fan base

Nothing here is legally copyrighted. It's an abandoned project and the dev has probably ditched the accounts associated with it. If you want to be respectful about 'taking over', give credit to the original dev and add 'Fan Remake/Version' to the title, or something of the sort.

Or do you mean the technical side of it? If it's the latter, it's likely built in SugarCube with Twine. Just download it, import it into Twine, and hope the code was legibly done.
