Hi!!
I recently joined this community and have been playing a couple of games like netori and netorare.
(I did music production for 4 years and mastering for 8 months.)

I have a belief that music has sounds that can produce feelings to enhance the emotions of scenes. And in this thread I want to point out ideas for making songs and ask questions to the devs and players.

Netorare:
I feel that insecurity and anxiety is the mix used for this type of games.
Based on this emotions, we can think about what kind of sounds cause us insecurity/uncertainty and anxiety.
ideas: Laughter, distortion, (something that distresses or frightens you).

Netori:
(am not to sure about netori but)
An incomplete idea:
Maybe, Trival and animalistic, with a strong deep drums.
Maybe the slow Brazilian phonk, for the social media connection with a strong man.
(describe what emotions you want to generate, it helps to design the sound of the song. would appreciate help to complete netori. )

Do you feel that music is evolving in porn games?

Dev:
How do you feel about music in your game?
What ideas do you have for music in your scenes?

Player:
What music do you want to hear in porn games?
Do you like music in the game or do you prefer no music, but ambient sound?
Do you go back to listening to the music in the games you played?

Musicians:
What kind of questions would help you?
Have you ever made porn music?
What kind of music do you feel relates a lot to porn?

IDEAS, EXPERIENCES.

This is an open minded thread, the idea is to learn how to make music of a certain style to improve together with the developers.
THIS IS NOT CLOSE TO NETORI AND NETORARE ONLY. You can share your opinion in an different type of games.
Any kind of help or information will be added by editing the thread again.
Thanks!!

I don't disagree with your premise that music accompaniment can add to the experience of scenes in theatrical, film, and other video performances.

That said, I play all video games with any music turned off or down to the minimum level.

In my opinion, if players want music, that's what their personal music library is for.

I also turn off sound effects in games that are found on this site.

It's a good idea, you mute the game music to listen to the music you want to listen to.
Moreover, if there were no in-game music and sounds the player could play any song or
sound he wanted. And the developer wouldn't have any problem or concern with copyright.

I don't think, there is a special music, that can be related to porn, but it's more about that the music one chooses or creates fits to the scene.
And that can be totally different and depend on the character specifics, the surrounding, or the emotions, the scene should convey.
If you want to make a porn sitcom, you might use Music, that fits to a sitcom, while in a western porn, music similar to Sergio Leone might be more fitting.
For the real humping action, something rhythmical would be probably fit the best, but this can't be used throughout the game/filme, as this would wear down quite fast, so you need some variety throughout the game/film.

The best porn with music, I actually remember, was Body Love from Lasse Braun with electronic music from Klaus Schulze in the 70ies. But that's really a very special case, as the creator let one of Schulze's compositions play during the filming process and when he saw, that the motions only fitted to Schulze's music, he actually commisioned Schulze to create a soundtrack for the movie in that rhythm.

Music and sounds can add to an atmosphere but also can destroy it. So I can understand everybody, who just puts it off just by default to not be disturbed or surpised by an unfitting choice of music or sound.
And there is always the possibility, that you put your music on and there are suddenly some loud unexpected moanings that might echo through the walls and doors and directly over to your neighbors, what one might try to avoid as much as possible.

Btw. I play porn games normally also rather without sound or music.

Its a really helpfull one, i really appreciete that tip. "P:T:O:" is my favorite song of that album.

The idea of having the movement of the scene match the tempo. It's a great idea. You could even improvise while the scene is in the background..

yeah, am doing the thread partly for that reason too.

Yeah, but most porn games are made by solo developers who have to code the game, make the graphics, and design the gameplay all on their own. Even further, most of these solo developers are new to all those things too. It's one thing to have buggy code or sub-par game design, but getting the music wrong will really hurt the experience.

If I was to design a game and I had to cut corners around either code, art, game design, or music, it would have to be music.

Good point. I think if the developer gets burned out with all the work he has to do. It is normal for him to pick the least important part of his work and remove it.

Music adds a lot to a game, but for NSFW devs is extra hard. First, you would have to commision a musician to have an OST for your game, which is a big $$$ drain. Other options would be buying music pieces from sites. They have a good variety, but when they learn is for a NSFW commercial use, most sites go NOPE. I remember a huge thread about this on the dev forum, and the list of sites that allow music to be used in NSFW projects is sad.

The last one, start hunting for free tunes, that one is a hit or miss and even then you still have to ask if it can be used on a NSFW project. So I understand why most devs avoid it, unless they have a dedicated musician as part of the team.

Woah I did not know this. Are these restrictions explicitly told in the end user agreement or are they only enforced after the fact of knowing how they are used? I would very much like to see the thread if you have the link, I'm looking for it right now.

The thread is in the hidden dev sub-forum, and is quite old so it would take me ages to find. Of course, you can always skip what's your use of the music, and that's it, but according to other devs, some sites might hunt you down. Usually, each site has it's own license of use, you can look it up there. Some sites are explicit about it, others not, and for those they asked by email and got a negative response.

Afaik, this depends, on under which license the songs are published.
Especially when music recordings are published as public domain, which is a model, a musician can actively choose or which is forced upon the music recording 10s of years after the music recording was published (and what may differ from country to country), you can use the music recording for whatever you want. Thus e.g. in "The Headmaster", one can now listen to the music of Scott Joplin in recordings, that were published long time ago or in many other games to the music of Kevin MacLeod, who published his music under public domain himself.

See .

I generally turn off the soundtrack in games, at least those downloaded from this site. If I want to listen to something during the game, I turn on albums by my favorite artists (Vangelis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, etc.) as a background.

Music distracts me from reading.
Do you listen to music, when reading a book? All games I've played here were almost as reading a book.
For me music is great in action games, not in AVNs.

Music can be used to great effect. insight of you and Nuka Ride would not be the same experience without their (pinched) soundtracks. I normally listen to the music unless it clear the dev did not care about it.

Would it be a better idea to ship a game with no music and, if later successful, just hire someone to compose and design music for the game completely? Because I listened to ~200 free tracks and they sound bad to my untrained ear. I don't know if that's because I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to picking music, or if free music is just shit. I have a feeling it's both.

As a player, first thing I do when opening a game is to mute the music.
I usually have my own music style ( metal, gothic, classic rock, etc ) and it's not likely that I will get that music in most games ( if any ).
As a dev, I tend to add some music, but I don't spend a lot of time and effort on it. I just try to find some music that I believe would fit the theme of the game or scene, check licence requirements on it and add it to the game.

While I do understand that music is an important part of the experience, I also believe that most of us have our own tastes and there is no way I could cater for all of them. Hence, I am expecting most player to play their favourite sounds when they play games.
