TLDR: Should I keep the 2 month delay rule? Or should a direct request be enough to ignore those concerns?
The more seasoned dudes would respect that 2 month delay, but we all know that a lot of people would instantly vote to remove that rule lmao
I think the bigger issue is that: unless the game reuploader is more dedicated to the game than simply uploading the release version to get clicks on some H-game site, it seems very rare for most games to have updated versions reuploaded for free somewhere. Huge hit-or-miss trying to MTL un-updated versions

I have no plans to get rid of this rule:

Because it seems really stupid to make a translation for a game, and a person who actually bought the game can't use it, because it only works with some outdated crap version.
If nobody can provide the latest version, I must assume that nobody actually cares enough about the game to begin with.

I guess instead of asking "2 months or not at all", I should be asking "If not 2 months, what time frame would be better?".
2 weeks?
I mean just for practical reasons directly on release day seems like a dumb idea.
Or maybe a purely conditional time-frame.
If the dev has already confirmed that they are working on an update because there's issues or something like that, then it would be kinda stupid to start working on the current version.

Edit:
And yes, essentially I'm just looking for someone to take all blame when I accept or deny a request in future. :KEK:

I think 2 months is a good time-frame. You can slrmtl the game, fix any bugs which pop up, and be done with it. Reducing the time to 2 weeks means you might keep getting called back for v1.04... then 1.05... then 1.07, except no one uploaded 1.07, so you have to reject the request... then people find 1.10 and get annoyed when the patch for 1.05 doesn't work. A 2 month wait is just so much smoother and cleaner. Theoretically, "2 weeks since the last update, if there isn't another update expected" would be fine, but few people are going to check the dev's blog for news before submitting the request. You could split the difference and cut it down to a 1-month wait; I guess it all boils down to how much of a hassle it is to keep coming back to a game and how hands-off the process tends to be.

But I suppose part of it is based on my own free-time. There's just so much media to be consumed that I'd have plenty to do during the 2-month wait (like finally beat TotK). We're pirates too, so there's an above-average amount of said media available to us. I'm also secretly hoping that some requesters will go "This can't be that hard; I'll do it myself" and we eventually end up with another person doing translations. They get really into it, and now they're even doing games in WolfRPG.

And since I'm here, I'd like to submit a request for Labyrinth Flowers. It's a drpg made in rpgm MZ, so there might be some weirdness in the scripts (I haven't seen a translated rpgm drpg before) but it's not VXace so I'm not too worried.

Riiiight. Good luck with that one.

MZ has been making some really annoying changes lately, but I've managed to translate Glittering Star Victorias and this can't be that bad... right?:HideThePain:
I'll take a look.

Edit: Something is fucky.
It pretends to parse just fine, but I'm only seeing around 55k characters of text, that's low even for a small game... and this thing is almost 2gb.
Edit2: Nope that's really it. Seems like the size is from the movies/animations and 3d stuff not length.

Another thing to gather opinions on, because it keeps coming up.
I have a rule that I don't work on stuff that hasn't been released for 2 months, yet.

The main reasons for that were that my system did not allow game updates. (I always had to redo the entire translation including manual edits to scripts for even a small update.) And that I want to give manual translators a chance to pick up the game because the argument was, that a MTL existing would lower the chance of that happening.

With my new SLR system game updates aren't really an issue anymore. Once I have translated a game successfully once doing it again is now much faster. Not quite pressing one button fast, yet, but updates aren't really an issue anymore.

As a result it's now pretty much just about the manual translator bit.

TLDR: Should I keep the 2 month delay rule? Or should a direct request be enough to ignore those concerns?
I'd say keep the delay and keep it at 2 months/ 8 weeks, maybe 6 weeks if you really feel like shortening the time, as it allows time for bug fixes and new versions to be released. Hell, some devs takes months, even years to release fixes, however I think most try to release fixed versions while the hype of their new games is still strong. Ultimately, like others have said, it really should be what works best for you. You're the one going out of your way to do these for us after all.

Hey now, I recently started my first WolfRPG translation project. It's not that bad... though I did choose a small, straight-forward game and I'm doing everything manually in-engine. Still plenty of time for stuff to explode.

Thanks for getting Labyrinth Flowers done so quick!

Here's some random stuff I've made for testing. Maybe someone likes them.
I know this isn't translation related, but this is my thread, sue me. lol
