Why so much hate toward AI art?

Partly because it's still way too shit to produce good looking art of consistent characters in multiple situations, partly because it somehow feels even lazier than real porn HTML games. Unless AI art gets so good that I can't distinguish it from real shit I have no interest in it.

Same reason many hate games with stolen assets... Have you tried playing any of those games where CGs were AI generated? The artstyle is completely inconsistent and all over the place unfortunetely.

It has nothing to do with ethics, it has everything to do with low effort being evident in the final product.

Because of the reasons above. And partially because it's basically cheating. Just wait for an AI game to make it big and think about how real devs who actually make their own stuff would feel about that.

Same reason why a lot of designers/commission artists and professions like that dislike AI art. It could take them out of business.

Even when the art won't be shit anymore, it'll still be problematic. AI can't come up with anything by itself, it has to "consume" previous art and therein lies the problem. DeviantArt is in the middle of a shitstorm over AI art because they've let AI companies use their user's content to "feed" their AI.

Besides the already stated reasons, bad quality products and low effort projects.

I view AI art like the "plastic" of art.
Something that will be used to inflate the market, fucking over consumers that will have to comb that market to find whatever it's actually desired and devs that will struggle to stand out due to the creation of a new standard norm.

Mentioned new norm, will also influence future devs to make future projects of equal quality products.

Regardless this being my opinion and the fact that i don't need scapegoats, i check out and follow what interests me.

On another point i do recognize the need of AI art since it will facilitate the production of art to important areas where just isn't enough talented artists, like facial composites to help victims tell their stories.

Though this market as nothing to do with that and will just grow into an industrialize concept, this isn't just porn games industry that is affected it's the world of art.

And the day that full AI created games becomes a thing isn't that far if we consider the fact that reskinning games is already a thing and was used to exploit the existing game market.

More than the art itself, I think what people actually hate is lazy content being thrown at them.

AI is just a tool for content production. It's like someone saying they hate a dev for using RPG Maker or Ren'py instead of coding their own game framework or paying someone to do so. Anyone who is thinking rationally would acknowledge that these tools can be used as part of a process to create good end results with work, but still may hate on lazy uses of the tools to create mediocre results that took little to no work.

tbh $150 for 1 CG is actually a good price. I'm planning for a 2D game later, and I just hope I can find a good artist with rates that reasonable
It's not so easy to find quality art for less than 200 $ if you using a 2 characters + background artwork as a reference.

Moreover trying to go for the lower price when working on anything else than a very short project can become the best way to have your artist leaving the boat while the project is still going on.

yep, I'm aware and I agree. My previous comment was badly phrased

No problem.

I think the current situation is a lose-lose situation.

It's perfectly understandable to see game devs going for AI art when they don't have the money or time to learn to create 2D art. Commissions are so expensives and handmade art is so time consuming.

But at the very same time, the whole process of how AI art is made seems kind off problematic, and it's also shitty to ask artists to budget their pricing considering most of them are already pricing it at a below minimum wage hourly rate.

My game started out with a lot of AI weirdness that you're talking about, but I'm slowly trying to replace the worst of it and patch things up. Technology is advancing rapidly. Here's a few examples of newer images I generated/seen others generate and included/will include in the game:

Those look really good mate. How much effort goes into getting them to look like that? I assume it's not a simple process.

Quite a bit. The first two pics were generated by reddit user UnlikelyEmu5 (I manually edited some parts though), and he documents exactly the steps he takes to generate the images. It mostly comes down to the models you use.

But keep in mind, for every good AI image you see, there are about 100 bad gens you have to go through. For images that require no manual editing, the scale is more like 1 to 1000.
