Why Do You Not Play Female Protagonist Gamess?

As someone who primarily plays female protagonist, and was considering creating one, I am very curious. It seems a sizeable minority of players won't play a female protagonist.

What about the "Female Protagonist" label makes you not want to try the game?

People that don't play with a protagonist that isn't their gender are often just too hard into self-inserting, they are also often seen complaining when the protag doesn't behave like they wanted them to behave or similar.

Honestly it is dumb, I play porn games for the porn. I don't care if the protagonist is male/female/futa or even nonhuman for that matter as long as there is porn in it.

Pass, I'm into M/M sex. I "can" watch hetero sex, but normally it ends as a girl swallowing a giant sized floating dick, or being fucked by it. If at least the guy were shown... but it's futile, there are almost zero games like this.

There are exceptions though, games like Katie's diary are interesting.

Hey again !

I most exclusively prefer to have a female perspective in all the fiction i consume, It may sound weird but there are characteristics and values I like that I associate with femininity such as kindness, courage and strength, the love and care and the fierce temper to defend who she loves, perfect example strong female character I adore would be Neytiri from the avatar movies of James Cameron. SO yea, usually when I think of an heroic figure I see a woman x)

the answer to your question is maybe somewhere on the opposite side, perhaps players view females exclusively as love interest or a maiden that need to be saved, maybe weak and fragile, like that dumb princess Toadstool... on the perspective of powerfantasy the shaft is just too much of a perfect tool, even if i believe it has strong roots in rape fantasies...

The gender I pick, depends on the type of game and on the game story/setting. Most games are stereotypes, so, I don't like playing certain genders in certain games. Quick and random examples for stereotypes: Nice and gentle man is potentially a cuckold victim. Nice and gentle girl is potentially a corruption victim.

A game with more freedom would be, for example: A nice and gentle girl who can choose, if she wants to be corrupted, or have a normal love live. And a big bonus, if she can even choose, whether she wants to be interested into men or women.

These are just quick and simple thoughts and examples. I think the game type and the game setting are important for the gender choice. So, asking why someone doesn't play certain genders is trivial. Because in the end, it is just a matter of taste. And probably especially stereotypical game settings caused some tastes.

Weirldy enough when it comes regular games especially RPG's I prefer to play female characters. In these type of games I prefer male just for virtual dating sim experience even if some of the LI are way to easy and dont give me that virtual girlfriend experience. When I play these games I look for the slow burn LI / LI that can gives you a real girlfriend feel when possible over just one that you progress with to get in her pants. With that said ill still play a female character here if the game interest me enough just male is my preference on these type of games but im not picky as long as I think ill like the game or heard it's a good one.

Funny enough I forget these are porn games at times since I dont play for the porn I just think that's a nice bonus. I play these games for the characters or story. Lewd scenes is the last thing I think about

I play all kinds of protagonists, but I most prefer futa/trans lesbian content.

"Eruption Imminent" is my favorite game recently. "Mage Kanade's Futanari Dungeon Quest" is also quite good.

I'm on the opposite side. If I see the "male protagonist" tag, the chances of me playing that game drop real quick.

There's alot of traits male protag games seem to share, like a lack of gameplay and dating sim elements. Some of you might like that, I don't.
"Male Protagonist" is often synonymous with incel game featuring incel main character in some bizarre 2-dimensional incel fantasy.

Hey again Jack! I see we meet again lol.

Funny enough, I completely resonate with what you say. When I think of emotional strength, resilience, determination, I also think of female characters. And kindness, and emotional intelligence.

Thanks for your feedback. I read thru a bunch of replies (here and elsewhere), and seems many players aren't into female protgaonist because:
- they can't see themselves as a girl taking a big dick
- They're tired of the dumb slut in rapetown trope
- They want a Girlfriend experience of slowly knowing and wooing a girl (or several girls), whereas many female protagonist games have the protagonist chase after guys

Pity. Seems like a well-written, interesting female protagonist will solve problem number #2, but not points #1 and #3. Can't win them all.

You usually have agreeable comments, but this is a really bad take. We all have different reasons and motivations to play these games. Saying it's dumb because it's not the same as yours is... dumb.
Of course there are many valid reasons to not enjoy female mc games, like Rafster mentioned being gay would be one of them.

What I said that was dumb though was the single reason I have given (try hard self-inserting), which is also the main reason I see being parroted by the people that instantly discard good games without even trying them because the protag doesn't match their bland personality, gender or similar.

I really prefer male protagonists games, but one of my favorite games is Goog Girl Gone Bad, because I like games with many choices, where you can really influence the story and how the MC behaves (Project Myriam is also nice but feels more linear in spite of all the choices). So, you could make a game I'll enjoy, but for sure it will need to have more qualities than a male MC game to satisfy me.
That being said, I see many people making threads asking "Why do you like/don't like this or that ?". I don't think we can explain why we like this or that. Why do some people like pineapple on pizza while others don't ? Why do some people like a movie while others don't ?

It's not dumb to prefer or exclusively play while self-inserting as the male protag. What's dumb is having the opinion that people who don't play that way is doing something wrong or being weird. Granted, a ven diagram of obligate self-inserters and people who complain about various shit in a story that isn't suited to their taste is almost overlapping, but having whatever preferences for any media is fine.

For me it's a mix of self insert & options, there have been a couple of female protag games that I'll enjoy (i.e. Elana Champion of Lust & Trials in Tainted Space), but a lot of female protag games I've tried puts the player in unavoidable degrading scenarios that I don't enjoy. Big downside for male protag games is that the protag will, more often then not, be a creep with no redeeming qualities. Which is why I prefer silent/choose your personality kinds of protags, nothing is more of a turnoff than having to listen to a game author project their creepy incel bullshit onto the protag.

weird saying even tho it can be hot sometimes I find most lesbian scenes in avn's kinda boring so I think it have to have good characters or story for me to play one with that being the main theme for the MC.
