Why did Honey Select/AI Shoujo games fall out of favor compared to Koikatsu ones?

It's obviously personal preference, but I feel like Honey Select/AI shoujo is superior art-wise compared to Koikatsu ones, but Koikatsu is extremely common these days. They are both Illusion Software assets, so wondering why are Devs going with Koikatsu/Party/Sunshine instead of Honey Select/2/AI-Shoujo, which are becoming uncommon these days.

Looking at weighted ratings, Honey Select ones are much more liked as well, so I'm genuinely curious about why is it happening.

Same reason the Legend of Zelda Windwaker looks better than a 2010 "realistic" looking game, the art style. HS2 didn't age well, and doesn't compare to Daz. KK has a unique anime art style that other 3d software can't replicate without a fuck ton of work.

I guess, we are both talking about our personal preferences here. For example, I would've much preferred your game with HS2 compared to KK. And I have to say Daz games look lifeless to me; the characters look like sex dolls, while realistic is cool and all, it feels little too perfect, which takes away the originality for me, it feels like another porn. And the same models still get used a ton not unlike HS2 or KK.

Up until very recently, it seemed like almost none of the developers were making Koikatsu games that i felt really looked good, and a big issue was that most if not all of the MCs were small, frail looking dudes due to apparent limitations in the software. However, there have been multiple games lately that are both looking much better than the older ones, and a few that now feature taller, more muscular MCs that I'm really enjoying. Its been a big step forward. Its to the point where I'm much more likely to enjoy a solid Koikatsu game than an average Daz one. It does seem like the variety of sex positions needs to be enhanced still.

I've always liked the HS games, but recently a few of the developers have also become absolute masters with it, and the quality of those has kicked up a big notch at well. I would even argue that except for the very best developers using western software, the better HS games do a much better job showing the movement of the soft fleshy sexy parts on women's bodies now - tits, thighs, asses, bellies.

Oh, it's definitely a personal preference. I much prefer the anime style of KK for something like my game. I think it fits the vibe way better. HS2 is too... dark I guess?

I personally think its because Koikatsu has a anime flair, and with it you can tap into an almost infinite amount of content, whethere its anime/manga/etc. The more realistic style games also don't really come across as realistic in my opinion. Plus koikatsu has a much larger modding scene and database collection from what i've found.

That's interesting to know. In the handful of games that I've played extensively that use it, I see the same models pop up over and over with minor alterations. Not that its the end of the world, but my guess was that there just wasn't a whole lot to pull from.

i think anime and consequently anime girls has became more and more popular in recent years and you can copy that style better with koikatsu where other softwares fail horribly.
