Hi Guys & Girls.

I'm working on a game. Slowly at the moment, it's only me. However I don't want to go too far with the game if no-one else has any interest. It's a Sandbox type game, and I know that they are not very popular at the moment. I have possibly 10 minutes play time at the moment, which I know doesn't sound like a lot but code wise it is. If anyone is interested in Play testing / helping out or just general chat. Let me know

Si

1) Male or female protagonist
2) RPGM or RenPy (or other)
3) The name of your game
4) Tags
5) A brief description of the plot
6) How is it better than other similar ones?

No one's going to babysit you here.

I'm not sure you need to go into that much detail at this point, but at the very least a screenshot of some kind, a brief description of your game beyond 'sandbox' and a list of tags would help a lot as far as generating interest for your game. There's been enough garbage on this site that people are more than a little wary of trying a random tech demo without even knowing what it's going to be like.

If it's any help, you might want to check I the thread I created a few months before releasing my game. It has some concepts, screen shots, allowed people to ask questions and show interest. When I launched, some people were already waiting for it. As for "when to release": I wouldn't bother releasing anything with less than 30 minutes of content.

Yeah I suppose I should of given more information.

1) Male Protagonist
2) Renpy
3) Working title is landlord
4) Tags, at the moment Real Porn is about the only one I am 100% sure of until I start editing videos
5) Plot: MC's parents are killed. He at 21 is left with £3Million which he promptly pisses most of up a wall. Having a spark of an idea he moves home spends most of his remaining cash on a property to live in, and 5 properties to rent out. His plan is to rent those properties and earn money off them whilst becoming a great photographer. Then a global pandemic and economic crisis comes along and threatens his income. This is where the game comes in. You need to convince your Tenants and people you meet get to know to pose for your website to make money via another means.

I guess that is the basis.
6) Better than similar Games. Not sure yet that is going to come down to how difficult i make it and how I control the grind.

not expecting babysitting, looking for advise / comment from the community.

Sandbox+Renpi = Bad idea.
I advise you to make the game as simple as possible based on the choices.
It's not very clear about real porn. How are you going to create scenes with actors cut from the video ?

Real porn = I am taking Still images and cutting the model out of the image, placing them on my own background. As for Movies I am looking for either movies that have the same model in them and I am using in the game (I have one set like that) or I am looking for POV films where you don't see all of the model. Not ideal I know. LandLordSally.PNG

When people see something like that, they dump it. Because they know that the developer is limited to 10-15 already existing angles and views. Worse, this model can easily be googled and see all the content with it. I advise you to make content on Unreal Engine (it's faster and more realistic than on DAZ) and make the game itself on RenPy without SandBox

Cutting out models from movie scenes sounds incredibly tedious. Lighting scenes in the game correcly also must be a nightmare. If you have no experience at 3D design, there's always HS2, but it creates a very distinct look.

As for when to release: When you've got something to show. There are hundreds if not thousands of games with version numbers like 0.05 on this site. I'd say 1 completed chapter is the bare minimum.

Concerning sandbox: Ask yourself if there's a need for the sandbox mechanic from the design perspective. If free roam / life sim add something meaningful to the game, go for it. If it's just "go to x at time y to meet character z who is only present between sunrise and 8 am", please don't.

Let devs make sandboxes if they want to. Nothing wrong with a bit of free roaming in a game. Just change that font and you're golden. Sans-serif for text or GTFO ;)

Successful or even good sandboxes are very dependent on who's making it.

The problem is, or rather the reason why sandboxes (as a whole, regardless of engine) are so disliked is because devs often use it not as a game mechanic, but as a clickfest to make the game seem longer. Pile that onto generally bad user interfaces, bad/unclear/no directions, typically minimal content for a fair stretch, and the reason for it's (mostly) consensus dislike of sandbox games becomes fairly clear. Games like Summertime Saga and Harem Hotel are really the few exceptions, and in the former's case, its popularity more so roots in it's ability to actually feel like a game while also appealing to a multitude of both popular and somewhat niche fetishes.
