What do you want to see happen in the adult gaming space that hasn't been done before?

I'm not strictly talking about kinks; I'm thinking about gameplay loops and features that make the experience a fully-featured game. Adult games seem to mostly be pigeonholed into being visual novels with limited interactions, and I'd like to brainstorm ways to make adult games a more fleshed-out experience.

The answer to your question is: nothing.

Not that there isn't something for which I wouldn't say, "oh, that's new and I like it". But I played my first adult game around early 90's, and never really stopped this that time. I can't be fully affirmative, but I'm nearly sure that I've seen mostly everything turned into a porn game. This going from story genre to game mechanism, passing by probably everything you can think about.

Also, saying that the scene is mostly made of VN is discarding without reason more than half of the games available here. Among the more than 14,000 games, less than 5,500 are effectively VNs.

I think the biggest problem with that kind of mindset is that adult games are played for what they are: adult games. If I want to play a good jump n run I play Mario, if I want a good racing game I play something else, etc etc. I actually actively dislike lewd games trying to "reinvent themselves" - as more often than not they are bad at it, and consequently fail as being adult games as well.

I guess what I'm saying is that not many people care if the game has some in-depth building and crafting system, we want to see erotic (and maybe romantic) scenes with characters that are good on the eyes. So I guess focusing on story is a natural partner in achieving that.

That said, I don't mind the occasional minigame or puzzle if it's not grindy though.

I've made this comment a few times before, but I enjoy games that make you "work for it" significantly more than click-click-click slide shows of pre-rendered images, albeit the balance of continuous rewards for the effort needs to be correct.

Note that this can include VN's where you need to stay actively reading to keep up with the well-written story, but games with that level of writing quality can be few and far between (friendly shoutout to my homies "Nothing is Forever" and "Color of my Sound").

Putting effort in and then getting the reward triggers all sorts of dopamine feedback loops. The borderline between "effort" and "grind" is easy to get wrong however.

I also agree with the statement above that a poorly implemented recreation of a game type such as action-platformer is more frustrating than titillating.

Also, this thread is full of top quality ideas and everyone should read it: https://f95zone.to/threads/guys-have-this-idea-been-done-before-i-feel-it-hasnt.91263/

While indeed most players just want (...), games like The Witcher show that it's not the only point of view and it can also work the other way. What I personally dislike in adult games is that those are either primitive "Press F to F..." or give adult content as a reward for playing well (or even worse, "reward" for playing poorly). What I personally can propose (and I know there is a narrow niche for this kind of games) is a game where the core mechanics are inherently adult (not necessarily explicit) in nature.

And I'd say "visual novels" infestation (VNs made in RPGM and even featuring some rudimentary other mechanics are still VNs) is not because it's the most appropriate genre. It's because VNs are easy to make. You just show a pic with a wall of text, something an artist can do without a programmer. While on the other hand implementing complex gameplay logic requires an experienced programmer - and without an artist this game will simply look like my games look trash :D

So, what I'd like to see more is games with high replayability. Not a barrage of poorly-written wall of text or fullscreen picture of (...) right into your face. But something you can come back over and over again and play a good game with some bonus warm feeling inside :) Like properly modded Skyrim or Oblivion, Heroine Rescue Team tried to be something like that too, some metroidvanias were actually also quite playable.

Part of me just want someone to make Artificial Girl 3 again, except good. It was a game that was basically just living under the same roof with some girls. They wouldn't have sex with you at first, because it wouldn't be much of a game otherwise. You had to actually make them fall for you, and asking for sex too soon effectively set you back to square one. So when they finally consented, it made it so much more exciting. You had to hold their hand and walk with them and look at the sunset and stuff, and if you got caught with one of the other girls they'd run off crying. That was the idea anyways. It had some flaws in its execution but it was quite pleasant in its simplicity.

One far-fetched idea I've had for the longest time is like your typical roleplaying game in a fantasy world except there are no goblins, quests, or story. You just have to live among the people. Flirt with the mayor's daughter, fuck around, marry and have kids. Something where you can just do whatever your imagination wants.
