Recommending "The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante" - anything similar?

A narrative-driven hardcore RPG set in a gritty world ruled by real but unrelenting gods. Set out on a challenging lifetime journey, where every choice has a price and entails consequences. Will you become an inquisitor, a judge, or conspire against the old order? Dare to decide!

What I want - a well-written txt-oriented game, with not much of a grinding, preferably with a dark fantasy setting, preferably with some 18+ scenes, preferably with lots of important options/choices and a plot . Preferably a kind of some life-story, but it's not necessary.

In that regard, some comparisons with the porn games I played:

  • Female Agent [Crushstation] - in their old version ( ), there's a somewhat similar life-character generation. Plus, it's well-written. But alas, in the main plot the choices are quite limited. Still, something like that but dark-fantasy would be quite fitting.
  • Well-written trainers like Naked Ambition [Apollo Seven] and Pyorgara's ones (Breaking the Princess / Soldier's Life / Corrupting The Priestess) . While there is some grinding involved, it is at least a somewhat enjoyable process there. I'd like to get more of a plot, but at least, there's some plot to follow.
  • Kamti's Three kingdoms story: Conussia + The Book of Bondmaids. Dark fantasy, a similar vibe of hopelessness, an interesting plot with mysteries. Alas, the gameplay is still a bit too boring/repetitive.
  • Long Live the Princess [Belle] A plot with mysteries, fantasy. Somewhat more light-hearted and grinding than what I'd like, but fun enough. Replay as a part of the plot is similar to "The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante" too.
  • Free Cities the game mechanics is somewhat captivating, but the generated characters are too bland, alas, and the events are too grinding. If there were more diverse events and more good writing...
And there're some games with an interesting plot and well-written scenes, they are fitting in that regard. But their gameplay is too bothersome/time-consuming. I.e., that's the stories I somewhat like, but that's not the kind of games I ask for.

As for japanese visual novels, I somewhat like the stories like Saya no Uta / Kikokugai / G-senjou no Maou, and I have read TypeMoon's vns, and I have read all the translated Lilith nukiges like Taimanin Asagi, etc. But this kind of "games" is not much fitting this request too - the gameplay of the vns is another kind of grinding, click-grinding, heh. Their way of storytelling is too watered-down with all these endless sprites and dialogues.

I have already played them, by your recommendation.
Queen's disGrace is quite fitting and it's a pity that it is abandoned.
Hero Party Must Fall is somewhat interesting but alas I just didn't like neither characters nor art.

Well, I already know them for long. Their gameplay was a bit too bothersome for me, but I read the scenes. Yeah, they're quite well written.

As for 3 other games (Greenskins, Mistress vs Slave, Ruin Me), they seem not much what I look for, but still quite interesting and new for me. Thanks, I will give them a look.

Is there a chance that you can recommend anything more gamebook-ish, or more similar to "The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante"? Not even necessarily too 18+?

The problem is, I haven't played that, and I don't know how it's different from a VN. If what you want is a well-written CYOA with lots of choices and political intrigue but no grinding, I don't think I've played any other fantasy or NSFW ones, but fits the bill.

Thanks, Suzerain seems interesting.

Found on reddit.
The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante takes a lot of DNA from ancient "life sim" games like the classic and "raising sim" games like the series.

There's a lot of these games out there, either taking place as a straight visual novel like some of the Choice Of games, a traditional raising sim like Long Live The Queen, or as a management sim like Yes, Your Grace and We, The Revolution. The formula is pretty much the same: work through a sequence of events in time building up stats, and later on those stats are checked as conflicts happen to whatever it is you're building up.

If I had to put a genre to it, I'd call it a Narrative Raising Sim. Raising what? Princesses, politicians, nations, space ships, whatever-- the important thing is you managing a character's stats through narrative choices. It's separate from your Princess Maker clones because the sequence of events is linear, and separate from your Frostpunk clones because the management elements are much more abstracted.
