RPGM - The Last Sovereign [v0.73.4] [Sierra Lee]

The fact that the game is based on an old RPGmaker engine makes for a very poor combat system. I find the sex scenes mostly boring, they do not create any arousal for me. Plus there a passages where I find the game very preachy and moralizing. The story though is quite good. I still quit very quickly each time I play it, because I find myself bored by the holier-than-thou tone of the writer.

SierraLee tends to provide excellent writing with her games and TLS provides an enjoyable game to accompany the lewdness. This certainly isn't as graphic-oriented as a VN, but the experience has been one of my favorite lewd games.

That's my current playtime for this shit. And that is for a non-grindy turn based without random encounters RPGM game. Can you believe such a thing is possible for these days? that's Sierra Lee for ya.

- Story, characters and writting
But what attracts a player such as myself to this game isn't even the gameplay. Sure i like turn based RPGs, but the meat here are the story, the characters, their interactions and the world.
The writing is amazing. Even though it's a harem game, which is one of the most common victims of bad writing.
- The protagonist isn't a self insert (has a personality and backstory).
- The side characters and villains have their own agenda. You can't always know and control their moves.
- The world isn't static. Nothing will ever be the way you like it. Your choices are presented as trade-offs instead of bipolar choices.
- There's significant and important lore to the plot and your decisions.
- The dialogue. If you're used to the Sierra games, you know how it goes from light humor to philosophy to social commentary to politics. Heck, i could mention some weird orcs here, but i don't like ruining amazing games with spoilers for others.

- Gameplay
Next there's the gameplay. Not much to talk about the battle mechanics. It does right. No grinding, no random encounters, no fetch quests, no endless walking and infinite dungeons, turn based with strategy instead of 1 single attack smashing. However, there are some other notable gameplay features, besides the battle system.
- Politics and Economics. Yeah, you read it right, you play this. Must pay attention to which you invest on and which sides you choose/manipulate. It's a harsh world i tell you, if this wasn't a game i would be broke (lol), because my current playthrough is apparently filled with shit investments. More interesting because my current state during the wars shows i made some crappy choices (heh).
- Which also brings the strategy side of the game. It's full of variables and relationship points, and which one affects something. You may end up on someone's bad side, ruining a possible investment, getting people killed by proxy, it's fucked up world i tell you. But it's fun.
- And of course, there are some dating sim mechanics. If you played some RPGs with RPs you know deal. Make certaiin decisions, reach the girl max RPs, then bone her. It's also fun, because the characters gaing new titles based on the RP amount.

- H-content
Speaking of boning, i think that's the only downside of the game, its h-content. Not because it has few h-scenes (it has plenty), but because there are no cgs. Call me an illiterate fuck, but i can't fap to walls of text without pics to show the hotness. But i admit that's my own bias.
I hope cgs are added at some point, but i won't keep my hopes up, since there are already a lot of h-scenes and some of them are quite immaginative. So i imagine it would be quite expensive for an indie dev.

- Final thoughts
Still an amazing game though. I couldn't give a score below perfect, because this is indeed (objectively, heh) the best RPGM game available at the moment.

This has the best story I have played in an adult video game. I played for about 30+ hours and I am amazed by the game's scope. It has everything from adventuring to manipulating economies and managing large scale wars.

This is not a porn game with images etc the sex scenes are all text based so if it is porn you are looking for you should look elsewhere. However if you want a game with a genuinely interesting story that can put a lot of AAA rpgs to shame this is the game for you.

To start this off, I like The Last Sovereign. I’ve played over 10+ hours, beaten the first chapter, of the three available, and read multiple guides / the wiki. I think this is a really solid game with a lot of potential, but right now there’s some serious gameplay problems holding the game back.

This review is written on version 0.34.2 with the idea that this game is not just an RPG but also an erotic game. I am a completionist who was playing the game in large part for the sex scenes and that influences what I think.

Art: This game is made in RPG maker so the main things you’re going to see are sprites. There is character art, but there is no art for sex scenes (which will be discussed later).

The sprites are okay, very passable for what they need to be.

The character art is lacking in many places. Sierra Lee should get someone to come in and redo many of the character portraits. Many of the characters are bland or uninteresting looking, including some of the harem members, and this can really take away from the game. The main character looks just like one of the stock character models which is really distracting as you see him constantly. Many/most of the harem members need new art overall and art for their reactions. I’m just not attracted to quite a few of the key members of the story and that doesn’t make me want to earn their affection.

Many of the side characters could also use some new art, but that can wait. Most still use stock character art which can be distracting.

Story: The story is great so far, but overwhelming. There is so much going on and so much lore that it gets caught up in itself sometimes. I’m very interested in the world and fighting evil, but its hard to grasp the scale a lot of the times. The tone of the game is also hard to nail down. There’s a lot of tongue in cheek humor mixed with some brutal world descriptions that kind of work against each other.

Gameplay: The game is hard and much too complicated. I have lost numerous times due to common enemies getting a lucky shot on my party member. There needs to be a difficulty slider in the game for people that want the challenge, and for people who want to enjoy the NSFW elements. I shouldn’t need to grind out over an hour in a dungeon to unlock a small sex scene. I enjoyed the RPG fighting, but it’s nothing to write home about. It’s pretty standard and doesn’t take many risks or do anything experimental.

When you hit the end of the first chapter you encounter the first big gameplay change. You can now invest in things using the money you built up over the game. However, it is extremely confusing and overly complicated. It is a great idea by itself, but it is not presented in a good way. Many of the investments you make will drastically impact future moments in the game / relationships with characters / your ability to succeed. But it is really hard to know which investments are good and will benefit you the most. I am a completionist so it was massively overwhelming going from “kill the corrupted bat” to “here’s 12 things you can invest in now, pick the right one or your party will never love you and the country will collapse.”

The game had been rather straightforward up to that point too. Then a time element is introduced and things get even more complicated, and not in a good way.

Then there are the 10000 hidden variables. These are both good, and bad. Make sure to say the right thing or invest in the right way, or else you won’t get the hidden economic point. This is a great idea but is very overwhelming. It stopped being fun when I started worrying more and more about the hidden values of my characters. It’s very strict too if you want to get the best results so never make a mistake, which also isn’t fun.

Sex Scenes: Lacking. I like erotica too. I’ve read a lot of erotica over the years and I never really felt excited by what I would read. All the scenes, of the less than 15 I got, were very short and vanilla. If that’s something you’re into great. But it was really boring reading 5 short non-descript paragraphs of sex. Even an 4-way scene was boring to me, the desciptions and actions were all rather weak. The scenes are described in an extremely small amount of detail, which really hurts them as sex scenes. They need to be beefed up with more descriptive words and actions.

I also only unlocked like less than 15 scenes total too. After 10 hours, less than 15. I would play for hours to unlock basically nothing. Scenes aren’t replayable too, so unless you want to have 100 saves for every scene you better enjoy it the first time.

Simon, the main character, isn’t the best to RP as in a sex game either. I’m not ‘excited’ to be playing as a 55 year-old, semi-unattractive, bland person. He’s great to RP as, he’s an old soldier who just wants to help the world, but to imagine in a sex scene? He just comes off as boring in many cases. I like him as a main character but Sierra Lee needs to make him better to play as him when you're having sex.

Looking on the wiki too there aren’t many ones upcoming that interest me either. Many of the scenes I read are still bland or very far away. The amount of work needed to unlock them is massive. It seems like there’s a lot more as you get deeper in the game, but I shouldn’t need to play more than 10 hours to get to the good stuff. There needs to be more frontloaded content.

Improvements: I wouldn’t be writing this review if I didn’t think the game had great potential. It could be the best erotic game out there when it’s all done, but this is a game that really needs to be completed before starting it. The games already 40+ hours without the addition of the 4th chapter (which I believe is the final one). Not being able to see how your actions will play out really hurts a game that ties itself so tightly to long-term investments like this one. Saying, or picking, the wrong thing in chapter 1 can fail you in chapter 3. And I really don’t want to redo things to fix that.

Character art needs to be updated. Many Harem members could do with some new artwork that makes them stand out more or look sexier. And the ones whose design is fine could use some new reaction artworks.
Gameplay needs a difficulty slider and there needs to be some help for investments. It is really overwhelming reaching the end of chapter 1 and being presented with a whole new massive gameplay mechanic that’s not well explained and is very easy to mess up.

Sex scenes could use some fleshing out. More descriptive words and additional kinky scenes early on could really help. Being able to re-watch scenes would be massive too. It’s really annoying watching a scene knowing you’ll never see it again.

If you’re not looking to do as good as possible some of this can be overlooked, but not all. You can’t just blaze through the game looking for the next thing to do or fight, you have to stop and worry about the economics. It can be really boring, especially as the final results of your investments aren’t fully known as the games not fully done. Was it a good idea to pick A over B in chapter 1? I don’t know, it did affect chapter 3 but maybe C will be better in the long run.

When the game is fully out its going to be amazing. I’ll probably come back in a few months to see where the developments at but it looks like everything is running smoothly. I believe with time Sierra Lee will update and fix everything I find wrong with the game. And if she does, this game will be in the talks for best western erotic game.

Succinct: I came for the porn, I stayed for the economics.

Long: Because seriously this is one of the more thoughtful and intelligent games I have ever found. It has a large and compelling cast in a fully realized world that should even in its incomplete state provide upwards of 50 hours of entertainment.

The game play while limited by its rpg maker roots is still quite fun and enjoyable, and the sex scene are some of the better written erotica I have found, even if the lack of visuals may be a drawback to some.

All in all I fully recommend this game.

I find that even with the sex in the game it stands great for a RPGMaker game that goes beyond the simple assets used and provide a in-depth story with deep mechanics that draw you into a story with twist and turns. Overall, I find this to be the best RPGMaker game I've played.

Amazing storyline, mostly reasonable development, and interesting and humorous interactions among characters. Also a MC who is humble and powerful.

I play this game mostly for the plot now and occasionally go back for the sex scenes (which are text-based).

In a genre filled with adult games that forget games are supposed to be fun, Sierra Lee manages to provide a game that is both erotic and fun.

At the end of the day The Last Sovereign is simply one of the best RPGs I've played in a long time. (Yes, that does include non-adult mainstream games.)

Political intrigue? In a 'porn game'? Well, no. I don't believe this to be a porn game. I believe it to be a game-meal with a sexual content topping. The topping is important but the core of the game and particularly it's depth and replayability as well as the writing and characters are bar none the best in any game that involves fucking, going deep into regular ol' mainstream games in terms of quality before meeting its match.

Don't let the intro fool you (that is its goal), it's a monster of adult originality, and while I hate saying "must play", it is completely worth the hours you put in.

It is also regularly updated and has been for a significant amount of time. The developer is making something of value to them and that is extremely noticeable in its value to you.

It is still in development but it was worth playing through.
There is no porn but it is a fantastic adult rpgm game.
It took me dozens of hours to do everything, but it was fun.
Actions have significant consequences so don't expect to win everything unless you read the whole wiki.
Combat can be annoying against bosses since you never get overpowering as you level up but you can quickly reload.

All I can say is - this is the one game that I kept a PC around JUST for gaming. I was so pissed the first time I played (how the fuck can you be killed so easily?) and then realized this was going to be something special. It's now something I get caught up on every 3-4 updates and - as long as I don't get too hung up on trying to optimizing everything - is a nice several hours of "what the hell comes next?' A 5 star game in a 3 star body...

A fantastic game, with some of the best writing, plot, game depth and world building I've ever seen in a porn game. It's a game everyone should try, even if only as a future reference frame.

The highest quality RPG maker H-game I have ever played. Oddly enough, it will draw in individuals looking for a strong story (gasp), excellent writing, and dont mind actually playing a game in order to access its h-content.

I would not recommend this game to anyone looking for a quick fix for several reasons:
1) It has NO PICTURES. AT ALL. The H-scene are all written (with a few pixel animations early in the game, but nothing noteworthy) This is not deterent to the quality of the game itself, but anyone looking for bewbs to look at, look elsewhere.
2) The H-scenes take time to unlock.
3) The writing is hot but also elegant at times too. There are reasons for just about everything. This requires more investment than most other games to appreciate.

That being said, if none of this has turned you off yet. TRY. THIS. GAME. The writing is top tier in my opinion. The characters are unique ad endearing (Qum D'umpe has FLOORED ME in tears at times, she's THAT funny). The combat while not excellent is still very good. And the thought put into the complexity and expansiveness of the story is downright impressive.

Not what most people come here looking for I would assume, but well worth your time if the above has you even mildly intrigued. The only game I actively support on patreon and gladly.
