You can ask Tech questions about AI here!!

I didn't see a thread for technical questions regarding AI anywhere, so I am starting one.

I have been doing this for awhile using Automatic1111 on my home computer.

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10850K CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3601 Mhz, 10 Core(s), 20 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 32.0 GB
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

Best resolution I can do is about 1920x1024 without having it have a CUDA memory error.

What would be best upgrade to get to higher resolution results?

Thanks!

VRAM is king in the AI world. More VRAM = better. If you're looking for the best of the best and money is no concern, you'll want to go for a professional grade GPU which start at around $4,000-$10,000~.(RTX 6000 Ada 48GB, RTX 5000 Ada 32GB, RTX A6000 48GB, etc..) outside of the professional grade GPU's, the best option currently for consumers is to get a 4090 as it has 24GB and will be able to handle the max offered resolution of 2048x2048 meaning you'll need to edit the uiconfig.json to modify the slider maximum amount for A1111.

After you've hit your max and start getting OOM erros, you'll then have to look into upscaling if you want to go any further. (Or get a profesional grade gpu) A 4090 is $2,000~, it has 24GB of VRAM and a beast at gaming. The cheapest professional grade gpu is the RTX A6000, and it's $4,000, has 46GB of VRAM, but is not designed and sucks ass at gaming.

With what you have right now, you can still push it further by upscaling the image. You can use controlnet, SD upscaler, hiresfix, etc to push it past what you can currently do.

Had a computer failure and ended up getting a new rig. Video card is 4080 super with 16 GB ram. HUGE improvement over the 3080 with 12 GB.

BTW, Do not go with Radeon if you are trying to run SD locally. All the software is written for NVidia.

Had to go with the 4080 Super vice the 4090 due to no machines locally with 4090 and I needed a rig now. I have done some 3440 x 1440 stuff and no problem.

A little primer for those wanting to start using AI for text to image or image to image generation.

a site called Mage is a good starting point to play around and find some good prompts. However, they won't let you do any NSFW celebrities.

If you want to generate on your own computer, I use Automatic1111 webUI. Rather complex to get set up but there are good instructions on the internet.
