Ren'Py - Completed - Sanguine Rose [v4.1] [DuskyHallows]

In short, beautiful art hampered by dumb protagonist decisions you have no meaningful control over. I can imagine some will find the story acceptable, but how could you not see the inevitable coming based on Roman's idiocy. Maybe some chose to play this differently, and experienced a more satisfying ending. Had I been in Roman's shoes, I would not have posted a guard in the room with her, for starters. That's asking for trouble. I didn't like Carmen, and I would have traded her for a microwavable bean burrito, or a bag of dehydrated water.

Definitely one of the better adult games I've played. I recommend anyone who can support these developers to do so! Well written, a good amount of polish, & leaves me wanting more. If you're into D/s & fantasy this will be right up your alley.

- Art, 10/10 - Perfect. Sexy, beautiful, and with an original style. Made by a true artist.
- Plot, 6/10 - Good. Not really original, but it´s OK. A bunch of mercenaries lost in enemy territory in a fantasy world triying to return to a safe place.
- Choices and paths, 7/10 - Notable. Several choices and paths. Obviously, more choices and paths would be better, but that's something that happens with all the games, so...
- Characters, 7/10 - Notable. Graphically, all of them are well designed and some of them have an attractive personality and good dialogues and scenes.
- Carmen, 0/10 - Terribly ridiculous. The character of Carmen destroys this game. Carmen is a mix between a Mary Sue (more beautiful, cunning and intelligent than anybody) and the already classic "strong female character" of Hollywood that actually is a man with tits. The character of Carmen has similar characteristics to James Bond 007 (the perfec Mary Sue himself) or some characters of actors like Stallone, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham... It´s a strong male character, but transplanted directly to a woman. She's stronger than any man, everybody fears her, and her way of thinking and behaving is the one of those hypermasculinized characters of movies of those actors... but externally, she´s a woman. Just ridiculous. If those "strong male characters" so popular during the 80´s were the erotic fantasy of gays into the closet, the "strong female characters" like Carmen is the fantasy of lesbians out of the closet that actually doesn´t like feminity but women behaving as men even more than real men, and the erotic fantasy of submissibe men. Carmen is the worst way or writing a character because is ridiculous. The author doesn´t even try to justify the way Carmen is like Hollywood does: the "Mary Sue - Strong Female Character" actually is not a woman, but a superheroine from other planet, an amazon godness, a vampire, a robot, has been genetically modified or something like that.

So, 3 stars (actually, would be better 2,5 stars) for the great art and the other good things in this game. With a character less stupid than Carmen, it would be 5 for sure.

I've been following this game since the earliest releases. I was not sure about this one before, if the writing would hold up as the game neared completion, but it did. It's a concept that you frequently see pop up in lewd games - A bunch of people tied up in a place, and different approaches yield different results in the story and lewds over the course of three days.

It is a "true VN" where the outcome changes drastically depending on player decisions. Everyone can die - or you can save everyone. And in the meantime, everyone can get fucked, too.

Sanguine Rose has likable and relatable characters, the plot develops in reasonable ways without magic and bullshit or the usual temporary character insanity, there is loads and loads of replayability and different lewd scenes to find. And even though the images will speak louder than words, I cannot go on without mentioning that it has some of the juiciest, best looking art in any game out there. Just look at this gorgeous art! And the rest of the game holds up to that standard. The programming and writing are top notch.

Sanguine Rose is up there on my personal list of best and most worthwhile lewd games ever. Kudos to the developers. It's a fantastic game and does what it attempts to do absolutely right. This is the sort of quality what AAA lewd games should look like.

Art is top-tier. Great story great atmosphere great everything. I've yet to experience any bugs in this game and I hope to see much more from this developer. He puts out great work. I really can't emphasize just how good the art is, just look at the screenshots. It's amazing.

amazing work and the game keeps getting better and better ever time i play the game. I love the art and the dialogue that this game show us. there are multiple routes you can take which is cool. the people who made it should be shown some love of how many hour they put there work into this great game

This is the greatest visual novel i have ever played. Excellent storytelling, vivid artworks, interesting characters and meaningful choices. And then there is Carmen... Oh Carmen... Her single sentences are packed with much more wisdom than e.g. whole Grey trilogy. Authors, right away im becoming your patreon. Keep up with the good work!

Certainly different from vast majority of the games presented to us here. Like the story, player choices and the art design and Carmen is simply delicious! Can't wait to see how will this game develop!

The art work in Sanguine Rose is really original, way to go! I like the many choices given and paths that can be explored. At times it's a bit dialogue heavy, but this makes the characters also more vivid. Looking forward to the next update!

Amazing, beautiful art. Well-written, branching dialogue trees. Intriguing story and sexy scenes. I can't wait to see more of this game. Might even become a patron to keep a closer eye on it.

At the time of reviewing, there are only 2 days of gameplay, though that's a lot longer than it sounds considering all the branching dialogues and lengthy scenes. Very cool to see how different paths can lead to such different types of character personality dominating.

It's hard to say what is better in this game: the story/characters or the well-drawn visuals. Carmen is scarily sexy and the way she argues and convinces you over to her side feels so natural and powerful that you can't help but want to join her. Crow honestly didn't interest me much at the outset, but as the story progressed, wow did she ever blossom into the hottest and sexiest love interest! I prefer the sub route for Crow, but learning about her actual social status in the dom route is very enticing. Overall, this visual novel has a fully immersive plot and completely understandable motivations for all the characters, which is why it is easily one of the best VNs I've ever played.

It really feels like choices matter in many small (and sometimes large) ways in the overall story. Lastly, the image gallery is a nice addition, and allows you fun replay value to find missed content (highly recommended since everything is very high quality). Definitely keeping a close eye out for future updates!

I have to say this game has a well written story with some intriguing characters and some very nice art the only issue is no animation and sex scenes are like one drawn art pic, but i got spoiled with other games that have animation.
This game does have a story worth checking out though i like most characters so far.

Really liked it, story is great, so many different ways to play through for such an early stage, really impressed. A few little things I didn't like, on one path mc seemed a little oblivious to Crow's face, reactions. Seems unlikely he wouldn't have noticed, even if only in hindsight when she comes back after 'seeing' the horses. But i'll have to wait to next chapter to see if that was an oversight or if he is aware of what happened (as even a child would be with her reactions) before I decide if that's a bad bit of writing or the mc playing clever games. Art work is great too. Looking forward to seeing more.

This one is trully a precious gem.

Sanguine Rose has a really well written story combined with some of the most beautiful 2D art i found in 18+ games out there. Apply that written style to the sex scenes and we have some really hot ones in this games.

Plus the game has a choice system that really branch out a lot and reward you with several different sex scenes.

Art 10/10 : Unique style, incredible details, Awesome and diverse characters
Story 8/10: The story invites a lot of intrigue and the interactions between characters invite a lot of depth in the characters. There is always more to meet in the eyes.
Sex 6/10 (for now): The scenes are not bad but not materials for good fapping at least for me. The dev have more scenes coming up soon so I am quite hyped.
Overall: Great job, this game might be a bit slow for some but if you like good plot, interesting characters and amazing artstyles. This might be the one for you !

The following review is based off my personal experience with playing this Game/Visual Novel... I try to be as brutally honest and detailed as I can, and these are my own opinions and thoughts, from one or more play throughs... The version this review is based on is v1.1.0...

This was originally in another format before being put into Ren'py and is a decent transfer so far...

The visuals are 2D hand drawn, and look very creative and unique... The backdrops are very good as well... The motion in some scene with clicking on places and characters is also a unique and creative feature...

The script is very well done as I barely saw any spelling/grammar errors... The plot revolves around a male protagonist who is the leader of a group of adventurers in a fantasy setting... They have been hired to capture a deviant female general... Their contact is somehow delayed, so they have to stay in town for a while with the prisoner in a basement... Needless to say, because the prisoner is a sexual deviant and highly manipulative, as the adventurers each stand guard, she begins to seduce them all one by one...

There are lots of paths to take in this VN/Game... I tried a bunch of them, even though the current content only lasts 1 game day before it takes you back to the main menu... There were a few error screens that you can ignore, so those bugs need to be worked out... The description sais you can take paths that allow you to be corrupted against your party or side with the party and not get corrupted (as much)... But no matter what choices I made, it seemed either the protagonist is falling for the prisoners seductions or his entire party seems to be falling for her seductions... So I get the funny feeling that the prisoner is gonna win no matter what, or at least get most of her way no matter what...

Especially with Crow, who has got to be the cutest half orc I've ever seen in any fantasy setting... Other then tiny tusks and green skin, she looks very human... Apparently in this games universe, orcs and anyone with orc blood are extremely into sex... Go figure... There is even a special Crow play through from the main menu, where she goes to the tavern to sell herself for sex... There is even parts of the main game where the protagonist tries to get with Crow and he gets cock blocked, because someone comes up the stairs while he watched Crow getting sexy... Cock blocking is so annoying...

Overall, this is not a bad VN/Game so far, even though it doesn't seem to completely follow the descriptions concept so far... As I didn't see much in the way of the protagonist getting the upper hand in any of the situations with the prisoner... As an example, when you decide to stand instead of sit down, he sits down anyway? So why even have a choice at that point? I just never saw a moment where he might be able to out seduce her... But of course this is still early in production, with only one game day...

I like the creative and professional feel of the UI with the mouse movement... And although the story is kind of taking a back seat to the sex stuff, it's still engaging and fun to try out all the different choices in different ways... Although that aspect might get tedious if this vn/game becomes super long...

I've never played the original version of this VN/Game before the author's began using this engine... But this version does seem fairly interactive... Will I revisit this one again? Sure thing, but I'll probably wait for a few content versions so I get a better idea if they are truly going to follow what the description claims for the two outcomes (prisoner win vs protagonist win)... Who knows, maybe there might even be a case where they all win?
