That's a false comparison. He didn't give them 12 hours. He outright said he may continue with the site "indefinitely". Did you even read his post?

I know what SadPanda is, I've used it for years. And I don't think he will end it, especially with its bounty system in place. SadPanda was a key reason why so many doujins were translated, because people were paid through the site to do so. That's why he's probably going to come back to it. Too much money left on the table.
Oh man, I was wondering why I was getting error 503's constantly yesterday. RIP the site I have used for the longest time

SadPanda was the greatest hentai site in the internet, Others sites like hitomi and nhentai are good, but exhentai was the most complete, with the biggest community, the hentai world never see. This is a very sad day.

Sad day, bit like the time MangaTrader went down and brought with it a short lived dark age for the fan translated manga scene that fractured the community and left a void to be filled by a flood of crappy online reader sites and the mostly neglected private mirror site of MangaTrader's smouldering remains in the form of Madokami, and good luck getting an account for that these days for what it's worth.

Its weird, I never realized how much I instinctively check exhentai until it was gone.
Just some form of subconscious to check every few hours. Now that it's gone I feel this massive hole in my heart.
I got into that site for years since it was the only one that had an amazing library, easy as fuck search bar and hidden gems pop up there that any other site didn't have, and other sites just steal from it anyway so have lesser catalogs.

Well, I agree that the exhentai guy doesn't owe anybody anything. But I also understand why people might be upset. What if Google someday tell everyone that they're shutting down g-mail or google drive in 12 hours. People all over the planet will lash out. People will scramble to save whatever data they've trusted to google for years.
I mean, imagine you create a park and say everyone can come and have some fun. That's good, people coming in, they're creating their own cliques, doing whatever they like in the park. Community is thriving. Then suddenly you say, guys I'm shutting down the park tomorrow, just go play somewhere else. Will you still say that those people don't have the rights to be upset? People are coming because you wanted them to come in the first place. Why should they have bothered to come to your place if you're just going to kick them out willy nilly?

Please, let's stop bickering and leaving comments about what the admin should and shouldn't have done since we can't change the past, and lets actually contribute to all these types of projects and the community in general, be it information, data you have stored, passing along a message... point is, let's contribute as much as we can to the best of our abilities.

I'm 48 years old. Do you really think that situations like this never happened to me, both on internet and IRL ? Where's this marvelous library that was selling BD/comic/hentai coming from everywhere in the world in the 90's ? Where's that amazing ftp server where we were sure to find for free all the music titles we wanted, whatever the style ? Where's this ? Where's that ?
