Thank hehe, honestly I'm not huge fan of 0.4 for now, because I didn't realize the bug in my testing I completely messed the balance. It'll feel much better in 0.5, I've made lots of change and I think it'll really feel like a game when it is released.
Any idea of how long between updates? No rush just curious since I assume the non-public releases you've been doing before now gave you some idea.

Just saw this game while browsing for new h-games to play, and the title just hooked me in. And, with the summary on your game, I'm gonna guess (and hope it's right) that this has a bit of inspiration on Re: Zero? Cause if it is, I'll DEFINITELY play the game. Not sayin' I won't if not, I'll still play anyway since I like the premise of growing strong, dying due to plot, and rewinding with a bit of a boost each run. I find that a fun and challenging idea for a game.

I make one update every 15 days for one of my games, I have 2 games, so every month.
The 31th Recurse 0.5 will be available for my patron and SoM 0.45 for the public. The 15th next month Recurse 0.5 will be public and I'll post another SoM updates for patrons.
Once an update is public on my patreon, it should be here within 0-2 days depending how busy I am. (but it may take a bit more time for the game to be promoted in the "latest update tab")

Well you are right, please note that the balance is terrible and the game is grindy because of a bug in 0.4.(The game is harder than intended when you have not double speed because ennemies attack aren't affected by double speed (you earn double speed when you don't have the focus on the game))
So if you want to reduce the grind you might want to try to abuse that as much as you can.

Everything should be fine in 0.5, The very end of 0.5 might be a bit grindy but I don't think this will be nearly as bad as now.

What you say about wave is true, but the thing is, new content isn't unlocked by being reachin wave x. You get new content when you manage to accomplish objective (have 1 slime, then1 prisoner then 5 slime/drone/masked etc) Which mean that how many new wave you can hold each reset isn't that relevant to the speed at which you unlock new content. It just mean you'll have more time to try and go further in the game but that doesnt dictate the pace of the game itslef.
What wave you can clear is a direct limit on how long you have. Clear more waves = can do more between resets.

If you only have 100 seconds to do something, and that thing takes 200 seconds, making thing go 10% faster doesn't help. It just means you have to reset 10 times to succeed.

But if you can clear another wave, and that gets you 20 seconds, now you can make things go 12% faster each reset, PLUS you only need to get your time requirement down to 120 seconds. So instead of 10 resets, you need 7 resets.

The problem is that you simply don't speed up enough (disclaimer, my experience was with the 2x bug, whatever impact that has). So you're doing 10 resets to unlock the next objective which.... gives you a new objective to do. But you aren't any better at clearing waves.

Basically, you have an objective that is do ABCDE (in order).
You grind until you are able to just barely do ABCDE before you have to reset.
You unlock making E units. But E units don't provide any meaningful change to your ABCDE routine, especially because you get them at the very end of your time limit anyways.
Your new goal is make 5 E units.
Now you have to do ABCDEEEEE in order to complete the objective. Except that you still only barely have time to do ABCDE.
So there are 2 ways you can get 4 more Es. You can just sit there grinding ABCDE over and over and over, getting slightly faster each time.... Or you can increase your time (by getting to the next combat break point).

That is, there are 2 methods to progress in the game. Grind mana/construction speed, or grind battle power.
And to some extent, you're always doing both. But they're both grindy, and the steps between any noticeable change are a long time of grinding apart.

This is a porn game. A player should be able to reach the first sex scene in the first hour. Failing that is going to really decrease your audience - to the point you might as well remove the porn, and market it to everyone (not just porn game players).

I gave up before I got to see the one scene you've got in the game.

Yeah I didn't do the testing yet, but for SURE it'll be way faster than an hour to reach the first hour in 0.5.
Aside from that there'll be a lot of new way to improve.
For now on the version I'm working on I can:
-Level up skills like you can already.
-Improve existing units (masked can either be given the ability to capture prisoners during attack or generate mana, those are mutual exclusive so you have to choose your path everyloop).
-Make rituals (expensive upgrades that can be paid over several run with permanent effect)
-Reduce price of slime to 15 mana and remove the cost creep with a story event
-Your sidekick (Selene for now) give you bonus stats depending of their status (puppet/mindless/masked) and training (training will be in 0.6)
-A way to reset the enemy wave strength once per run
And probably other that I forgot.
What I meant is not, the game balance in 0.4 was perfectly fine, but rather, the fact that the wave difficulty increase exponentialy won't prevent me to have a fun and balanced game in the future.

This is strange, you have 0.4 right? You're the first one that report me a game breaking bug this early in the game.
Can you try and press F12 and see if there is an error message in the console? You could also try another brower?

Is there a way to delete my save? I downloaded .5c and even though it's in a separate folder than .4 it still found my save and continued me off. Call me a masochist but I kinda wanted to do a comparison on how it feels now compared to before with the bug fixed.

You can press F12, it will open the console, instead of having the console tab selected, select "storage" and then there is a "local storage" on the left, right click it and click delete all, it should work.
edit : Please tell me how it is when you're done, I'm curious to see how the progress feels now. I think it's fine but I still probably need to get it a bit faster, that being said I think it'll be better to do it by adding the achievement progress mechanic than change the actualy progression.

I checked and there wasn't anything i guess it's my browser that doesn't work
Well you can try another brower. I'd like to know which one you use, maybe I'll be able to reproduce the bug and fix it on my end so other users of this browser won't have a problem.

Admittedly I understand the game a bit better but the balance is definitely much better. Here's my stats when re-capturing Selene for the first time. Previously I didn't get her until around 11 magic and 10 fighting skill.

Is the description of Slut Soul a bug or is there a separate skill called meditation that isn't magic?

Edit Also: I feel this game plays much nicer at the x2 speed than the standard speed. I kinda get the idea behind it, but I personally feel like it just feels better to play at that speed and that I'm punished for not deliberately building it up. I know I could cheat it to be long enough that it would be effectively infinite, but if I'm doing that I feel it means there's something wrong with the system in my opinion.

Another game that has this problem is Honkai Star Rail. The game actually feels unbearably slow at 1x speed so I never turn the speed up off and just feel annoyed when the game does it for me.

Well I'll replace meditation by magic in tooltip.
Magic skill influence all magic skills. Well for now magic skill only influence meditation and summoning speed, but I may add more in the future so you're right it makes sense to change it.

If you say the game feel better in X2 maybe I'll make the game faster in the future or easier.
I still want to keep the X2 when you don't keep the focus on the tab, because it's frustrating when playing this kind of game to be forced to keep focus or you "waste time". Maybe I'll change the way it works, my original plan was to add an upgrade to make it stack even when you quit the game, and the X2 speed to become +X% speed depending on how many achievement you completed when I add those. But idk how long it'll takes to reach that point. maybe next patch maybe in a couple.

Regarding this and not knowing in javascript how hard is to implement:
what other games do is to store the amount of ticks passed between out of focus and in focus (you already have this since you keep track of the secconds)
and then at the moment of coming back to focus you calculate the result of all those ticks with 0 delay until you reach the game present time
for the player doesnt matter if the game was actually playing in the background or not if the end result is the same (or a very close aproximation ;) )
again I dont know how to do this in JS i would know how to do it in Python but since some of the basis are already implemented maybe is feasible

hope I made myself clear with this, and in any case i´ll be waiting for the next update

Yeah I could do that, what I don't like with this method is the fact that you only skip time until the next action is complete, because the time does not "pass" when there is no action. But maybe it can be a good idea once I add a couple automation mechanics or the queue mechanic I'll think about it.

Totally and absolutely true, didnt thought about that,
a mid of the road option is to make the next actions instantaneous untill you run out of game ticks (kind of a X999 instead of X2 time bonus). although it makes triky to meditate without blasting yourself into a dead end LOL, but there are solutions for those situations
