(Potentially) good games being Abandoned

Is it me or has there been a surge of (potentially) good games being Abandoned ?

Regarding Home Prisoner it's explanatory since the developer is from Ukraine, but I'm unsure about the reasoning for the others but it's a shame to see so many games that you've followed for a long- or even short time that gets abandoned.

Many of these games have good graphics, a compelling story and/or are proper mastur-bait. Some might return with some updates (hopefully) but it's not really a promising and fun experience to see so many stories remain incomplete.

I didnt check all of them, but a couple of them aren't abandoned if the posts in the last couple pages are to be believed. They are just working a bit slower then normal.

Some are abandoned of personal reasons. In one of them the Dev apparently got cancer and is really sick from it.

But most of them are just not getting enough (financial) support. Especially with the high inflation lately, making a porn game is much more risky. Higher living costs, and less people most likely subscribing to Patreon.

Quite recently on F95zone a rule was adopted that a certain amount of time without an update = tag abandoned. So some of the games that have the tag abandoned may not have been abandoned in reality.
My VN is one example. It's marked as abandoned, but I'm actually working on it. I'm just very slow, it's my hobby project, and I have plenty of other hobbies.

I don't really care what tag the VN has at the moment.
But if one of your favorite VNs is tagged as abandoned, it might be worth checking to see if it's actually abandoned, or if it's just a case of a slow developer.

it's RARELY your case with others though. when the schedule starts slipping months the game almost never comes back. there might be some spite posts from dev claiming things like 'the update is almost finished' but they almost never come through. or the 1 year update is clearly done in less than a week.

It isn't this recent (more than 2 years), and it's not directly related to the updates ; unless I missed a recent change, I don't think so but it's not impossible.
After three months without news from the author (whatever on the game thread, Patreon, Twitter, whatever), the game is assumed to be abandoned. But effectively it just mean that the author was silent, not that he wasn't working and will not release something soon or later.

Well, just say it to a mod ; don't really know, perhaps just report your last post in the thread, asking for the prefix to be removed.

They don't remove the prefix, once they tag something as abandoned they only remove the tag once a game update is released, even if the dev shows up later. Like it just happened again with this (now they finally removed the prefix once the update dropped).

I reported a few games with evidence that the dev was active like this one, they always deny your report.

I also would like to point out that good games are harder to make as such its easier to burn on making the update at all.

That sounds more than reasonable too me. It's not hard for authors to post a progress update somewhere every couple months, to give people an idea of the progress being made.

I'd suggest leaving comments of encouragement here on the your favorite games' F95 pages, even if you can't afford to support the games themselves. Money is nice, but it's understandable that many people are struggling financially. So the next best thing you can do to support your favorite dev(s) is to flat-out tell them! You'd be surprised how nice it is to have people looking forward to your next update. It can really help developers if they're struggling financially. I'm part of a team so we cheer each other on, but many devs work alone, and a lot of them struggle with IRL stuff while having no one to support them. Seeing people shitting on their game, or even worse ignoring it, can end a project just as quickly as lack of money.

So if you like a particular game, reach out to the dev(s), let them know! All it costs is a bit of your time.

Step 1) See niche market of porn games with lower production value standards than regular video games
Step 2) See developers making $1000+ a month despite only making an engrish VN they made in Renpy or a scene viewer in RPGmaker with default combat using stock enemies, sounds, and music
Step 3) Believe you can capitalize on this too
Step 4) Make uncanny valley creatures in 3D that stalk the living.
Step 5) Write up some crap story you saw in a porno once, whatever, it's all about the fetish $$$.
Step 6) Do the bare minimum and release version 0.0.0.0.1 alpha.
Step 7) Get "Wow adding this to my watch list!", "Yet another generic [?] game.", "Is there NTR?", and "Wow I've never played such garbage in my fucking life, fuck you, fuck your family, fuck your dog, and go jump off a bridge ASAP"
Step 8) You only get like 3-5 patrons for your minimal effort, realize people are waiting for something more substantial before donating.
Step 9) Months later, realize this is hard work. You feel like you are wasting your time, bit off more than you can chew, or made a bloated mess you can't fix. Maybe tell everyone that the update is coming soon™ so you can get a few more dollars before bouncing.

Definitely agree with this. A positive comment regarding the game, a nice review, or even just some hype for the next update all improve my day significantly.

Hell, constructive criticism can help improve the game more than 10 bucks ever could.

Not that I'm gonna say no to the 10 bucks, though. Commissions and food are both expensive lol.
