Anyone replayed it? How significant are the choices or are they none choice's to get rid of the tag? Can you put Portia in her place? or avoid anything that was forced because kinetic? MC still passive and annoying?

The choices are more reminiscent of the old CYOA books. My coding skills still aren't up to the task of making the decisions you make alter paths farther down the line, but I'm getting there. Some choices will lead to an untimely end, some will loop back to the main story line and others will skip content. As far as the MC "still being passive and annoying"? I prefer to say his character arch has yet to be finished.

It's all about variables, friend. Anytime you add a choice that you want to affect later scenes/dialogue, have the choice set a variable. At the later point, you just use an if or if/else argument referencing the variable. You can use a simple "if examplevariable = true" to add extra dialogue/renders, or you can add an "else" indent to create a branch, giving 2 separate scenes based on the earlier choice.

Since you're adding choices to skip content, it's important to utilize a variable, so you can show or hide dialogue later that might reference that content. I can name several games where the dev gave the option to avoid a scene, but the scene is still later discussed, because the dev didn't set a variable with the choice. I wish this were an exaggerated example that never actually happened, but in a game that shall remain nameless, shortly after rejecting a girl(no sex happened, not just skipped), she says "I've been farting cum-bubbles for the last 3 hours!". Always set variables, and always be mindful of continuity errors resulting from choices.

Honestly...the update really didnt do much for me to feel better about the rape from chapter 3. Now it just feels even more like a tacked on thing to add drama to a game that didnt need it.
Thanks for taking the time to post this. I was wondering if it was worth getting back in but I'll take a big pass :D

You can use a simple "if examplevariable = true"
In Python/RenPy it's
Code:
if examplevariable == True:
(double "=" to compare, and True or False should be capitalized).

And you can omit "== True":
Code:
if examplevariable:
And for False you can just:
Code:
if not examplevariable:
Well there are tons of RenPy tutorials if anyone wants to learn.

So now we have a character who has been a bitch, and are now supposed to just forgive her and feel sorry for her to what end? Is she going to just...get forgiven and fade away never to be seen again? What would that accomplish for the story?

Is she going to get "saved" and join the harem? I dont fucking want that. Not because she isnt a virgin or whatever, but because it just feels gross to "save" her from that kind of life only to add her to your sex family. Just feels manipulative.
I feel like you are excluding a middle-ground choice. There is no saving Portia, since what happened to her already happened. The best that can be done is giving her some closure and vengeance, and she may not appreciate that, particularly not from the MC and his girls. It is wildly unlikely that she would want to join the MC's family or harem, and also unlikely that any of the girls in the MC's family want her to join.

Lastly, remember that not all girls need to join the harem/family, not even all sexual characters (e.g. I don't particularly like Kim much, and I don't think she'd be a good fit for the harem; meanwhile, I like Cara quite a bit, and am looking forward to seeing what happens now that she's quitting from Miranda's company).

Final note: All the arguments about the incest tag can finally be put to rest.

Wait, who is Olivia again.
Becky's sister, drummer in a band. Hints from dialogue imply past sexual history with the MC - she said she's shared with Becky before, and Becky has never been with anyone else since the MC in the past.

I just dont see why the dev would choose to add this storyline at all unless it resulted in another person added to the harem. Like...the entire plot point doesnt make any sense at all unless its adding a new character. Its such a tonal shift in what has already happened...if it were not to add a new girl then what is the point? Like we have already seen the abuse thing used as a method to get one girl already into the family...

Thats my issue with it. What is the end goal of having this subplot of ch3 and ch4. Is it just filler because they didnt have any other ideas? Is it to get another girl into the harem (please no). Is it to show some growth or something in the already established characters? Like...the girl was / is a bitch. Yea she had a shitty upbringing but the girls were completely in the right on how they reacted to what she was doing.

Its like if you were watching how I met your mother and they suddenly added a murder mystery in the middle of it. Or watching the Office and suddenly decided to have Jims sister join the show as a rape victem and he had to help her situation. Yea...it technically could get added to the story...but why?

Update (incest and age patch) for all versions (0.3, 0.3.1 and so on):

Here is the patch that sets ages and removes "step-" relationship.

It should work with original, not modified game files of all versions. It searches and replaces some phrases from a list, so it's not affected by corrections or additions to other parts of the script. Therefore it should work for all further (and probably some previous versions, like 0.2). Of course if new versions of the game would have new or changed dialog lines, this patch wouldn't affect them; but it would still work for the lines that would remain the same. It won't break anything (99.9% certainly).

It's based on the patch posted by TomHook:

https://f95zone.to/threads/new-years-day-e-v0-3-0-jonesy.161093/post-12543796

Save "patch.rpy" and put it in "games" folder.

To remove it: remove "patch.rpy" and "patch.rpyc" from "games" folder.

Your old saves might occasionally not work with this patch, but the game is mostly kinetic, so just skip to the point you need.

Also here is a tiny little mod for better dialogue style (a bit larger text, thick outlines, a wider and transparent textbox). It works well for screens like 16:9 or 16:10. It works for most other Ren'Py games as well. Just save it as "say.rpy" (or whatever) and drop it into "games" folder. To remove it: remove "say.rpy" and "say.rpyc" from "games" folder.
I've updated the script for 0.4.1

Let me just say that adding choices that just leads to game over screens is pointless and uninteresting and just breaks the flow of the game. They aren't real choices anyway, so they don't actually change a game from kinetic to visual novel.

Personally I much prefer kinetic novels. If the only thing we're going to be making choices about is whether we see certain scenes or not, you can just make those choices when they come up, like how I skipped the foot stuff this episode. I much prefer doing it that way rather than having to choose between scene A or scene B and excluding the scene you didn't choose, like the last sex scene of the update. We could play in a world where all the scenes we want to happen will happen and you don't have to miss out on any scenes you would like to see, you just make them happen on different days and the only choice the player would have to make is if they want to see them. Easiest solution and pleases the most people, if they're rational.

Some of you guys are ridiculous. If you don't like the game, fine, no one's making you play it. But why all the hate? Is it because the dev isn't writing the story you want, or is it because he's writing the story "incorrectly"? I see a lot of comments about "why would he do [XYZ]?" This implies that he SHOULD have done [ABC].

Why? Who says? Is there a playbook he isn't following? It's like he can't win. First it was "This is too much like APAT" (dev makes it way different from APAT - did he over-correct? Maybe.), then it was "stepcest is stupid" (looks like that is probably going to go away/become a secondary gripe), then it was there aren't any choices (dev adds choices - "I DON'T LIKE THOSE CHOICES!"), now it's "why have a rape scene unless you're trying to add the victim to the harem" (because...well, we don't know yet do we? Because the story isn't done yet and you don't know why YET!). Like, he's obviously writing a story that unfolds over time. You're going to have to wait and see what happens, but so far it looks like he's giving you guys what you want, just not in the package/timeline you want it in...and to me, that's ok. That's what makes this game different.

It's like some of you don't want anything on your plate to touch at dinner. You want everything served on a sectioned off cafeteria platter. "Don't let my green beans touch my porkchop! Don't let my mashed potatoes and gravy touch my beans or meat!" I think he's adding elements of different stuff into his game and seeing if the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts instead of just going with the admittedly tried and true formula of harem games that we all know and love. Maybe he'll get it right, maybe it'll flop. Who knows? But, I don't know about you, but I like a little pork fat on my beans and I like gravy on my pork chop, etc. Instead of being typical hate spewing mindless trolls, why not try to relax and just go with it? Why the hate? Why the outrage?

While it might not be the most epically awesome story I've ever read, I think it's interesting and I'd like to see where it goes. To assume what will happen with any character, plot line, etc., and then turn around and get indignant about the outcome of your assumption is laughable. IMO, the writing is far superior to 90% of most of the games out there.

Don't listen to 'em Jonesy. You can't make everyone happy. Especially not here, it seems. I personally can't wait until chapter 5.

Basically this... If you try to make everybody happy, you'll end up making nobody happy. Tell the story, those that like it will likely find it, and those that don't... well, they'll find others that do suit their tastes better.

I get the impression you're viewing this as a completed work, where it is a WIP. We don't know where Jonesy is taking it for sure, because we haven't reached the end.

Using your own example of the office, we don't know the full scope of why they'd add a story like that until it reaches it's conclusion, It could be pointless filler, it could be a massive part of the overall story, Or it could have been the catalyst to write Jim off the show after his sister ends her life. We don't have the broader context, and while voicing your opinion is awesome, I would warn against too much speculation, you'll just ruin the experience for yourself.

If the plot line isn't to your taste, go find something else that suits it better. I don't go to Pixieblink to complain about A Father's Sins because I don't like some plot that he is telling... I decide if I can look past it enjoy the overall, or not... and move on or enjoy accordingly. Constructive criticism is another matter, but it is a stretch to call your bit constructive.

Meh, its because we did like what the first game was, and how the second game started that is the problem. To use your dinner anaology, I went to a steak place and had a really fucking good steak. I then went back a second time, had a really great appetizer and then was served pasta.

Yea the pasta was ok, but it wasnt what I was hoping for or expecting going to the same restaurant again.

I've said the same thing repeatedly. It never ceases to amaze me the number of highly qualified literary critics, moderators of morality, professors of quality AVN writing, mavens of judicial knowledge and self proclaimed rocket scientists that use their highly in-demand time and expertise here on a pirate porn site trying to educate developers on how their work is flawed. Particularly since my best guess is that the greater majority of these experts are basement dwelling Cartmans waiting for a hot pocket from momma.

What really stirs up a personal discontent for me is to see it work. Patrons are supposed to be supporters, not producers. As a retired writer it is something I professionally had to endure and hated more than anything. A studio would hit me with a concept and contract me for a script because they liked my work. Then they'd come back after it was done with 50 re-writes that would shit on the whole story just to serve one of the producer's kinks.
There were even cases I specifically requested they not put me in their film credits because even though I'd written the script and the rewrites, there's no way I wanted my name on the slop they filmed. Some of these developers are taking this in process fan input too seriously and in most cases (IMO), it compromises the quality of the work.

But that's the new way of things, I guess. I even had one developer of another game get angry with me for saying he should ignore the patron input and stay true to his course. So the integrity of trusting one's own creative instincts it would seem is no longer important.
