VN Ren'Py New Game - Student Dorm - Demo. Feedback appreciated.

Hey guys,

I dared to make a new start with the project. I said goodbye to HoneySelect and switched to HoneySelect 2. It took a while until all mods I need were adapted to HS2. But I think that the graphics in general just looks newer and better. Also you can create more western looking girls with it.

It's just a start, mainly because I had to start from scratch. At least as far as all the screenshots, videos and animations are concerned. It's probably only 10 - 15 minutes playing time, but I added a sex scene .

Think of it more as a teaser.
All pictures and videos are in 1080p. I hope RenPy can handle it.

You gotta think about compression and game size when doing that. I would personally suggest just recording the screen in 1080p or whatever with windows built in recorder, then scaling it down to reduce compression of the video and reduce file size.

I don't think that the game size will be that much higher than other games. The video-files (1080p) in the demo are about 100-500kb big. So not that much bigger that good quality 1080p images like in harem hotel for example.

With studioneo and the right plugin you can export video-files directly, in any resulution you want. You don't need to capture the screen or something like that. It is quite simple. Here and there I will need to cut these files to create a perfect loop. But that's also not that hard.

That's not too bad. The loop thing isn't too hard and a lot of people and devs do it, like Puppet Master. The guy has 1 15 second loop shot from about 7 different angles and it feels more like padding than anything.

I guess it all depends on the video file type and exactly what is happening. I can't do rendering that much for videos because Daz has my balls in a vice and takes days to make a simple 720p animation.

Animations make the world come alive. I spent way too much time on animating all the characters + animating all the mugshots, but in the end I feel it was worth it.

renders are not bad , story is good , english needs alot of help , but not that i couldn't understand what you where trying to get out of a conversation .... for some reason it lagged a bit on my computer , i think it was do to all the movement of the characters ... kinda not necessary .. but i did like this demo

So, here I am. I like the plot so far, it's okay for an intro. But yeah, the story (how he gets the job) is kinda unbelievable, but why not? The fantasy has no limits / we are the creators, right? It's not cringy or stupid. The texts are mostly relatable. You only have some issues in the naming (some times it doesn't use the custom name), but it's a demo, so a common early sickness.

Like I already told you, I really love the animations and it is really impressive that you kept that style for every scene. Also the two female characters are very lovely and sure I would love to see more of em and those who may will come later, huehuhue.

It's a really good start and I see alot of potential in your work. Afaik your scene style seems unique to me (in an VN) and uniqueness is always a good companion. But, I think that must be said, I have seen many great projects here, which never were finished, so that would be the biggest issue. I'd like to see more of it, that's for sure... And of course I'd like to see it growing and being finished one day... Also, if you need some props for your HS, feel free to tell me. I can't promise to actually make them all, but I have a smart list that I constantly process, so at least there is a good chance.

Yeah, english is not my native language. Maybe I will try to use short sentences in my native language and use a translator like deepl. It surely would increase the speed of story-writing. I watch all movies and series in english and understanding is not an issue, but writing or speaking is another thing.

The thing about the MCs name: Thanks for that info. If you're in the flow of writing, you sometimes forget that...

About the lagging. I feared that this could be the case on some computer. maybe it depends on whether you have a hdd or ssd, but my goal is to make it run good no matter the hardware. I use 1080p videos to keep up the image quality, maybe I will try 720p or onother coding format or something. I'll have to google how to improve the performance with renpy when using videos.

I surely will keep on working on it. it is definitely fun.

I really like how it looks so far. You seem to be really squeezing a lot out of HS here.
In addition to the MC still being called Peter sometimes, we used to work at Richard's but refer to him as Bob? Is that intentional? Bob is generally short for Robert, and Rick or Dick or Richie etc would be short for Richard. It's a small detail but it jumped out at me. And I guess the common usage of ??? (or unknown as you use later) as names for characters until they give their name had me thinking we knew Steve already, but that really is a nitpick.
Bonus points for the Spider Gwen picture on the wall.

Thanks for your feedback. Yeah, the peter thing... I corrected that. I have to pay more attention to that. My way now is, that i search for "peter" and replace it with the variable. It's going on my check-list before releasing again.
I changed bob into Richard in my mind while writing, but forgot to change it in renpy.
I should probably write a line or two about steve or just let him be unknown for now. That dude isn't really important anyway.

I am glad you like the looks. I get the feeling that most people don't know how much you can improve hs with mods. Its the skyrim of porn games.

I do like the DAZ renders, but damn, when i read how much times it takes to render a single image ... It takes me like 2 to 5 minutes to make the sorts of videos i use in my game.

I dived deep into the possibilities of studioneo and now I am able to create custom short h-scene loops with colliding bones and all. I need 15 to 45 minutes for a custom sex animation in studio neo.

This is an example i made months ago. Took me around 45 minutes until i was statisfied how it looks:

Hi. Yes I have 4k skins and all.
The thing about reshade is, that i wouldn't be able to record the loops as I am doing it now. I use the videoexport plugin and it doesn't record all the changes made by reshade. It't like it is recording the image before the reshade options come in place. If I would just capture my screen, it would take my much longer to make the loops. The content output would take much more time.

Visit Riley in her room post demo and it is just black.

The dream of Mia seems to do nothing, but Riley shower works, oddly the shower is less interesting than the actual shower peeping.

The game looks like it might be interesting and I will wait to see what comes next.
