its not necessary, but some characters in this game are from that game so you can understand them more. and the lore behind this world building is more explained in that. Other than that its a diff story set 2 years after that (that game is not finished FYI)

I stopped and came back after some time and picked up right away from a save years old. No "I'm sorry but after 3 years of content the saves are broken you have to start a brand new game" nonsense

That's a great thing, because there's some games that if you miss one update, it becames more broken than a current day Mario Maker level
