The site will get an update to a newer version of this forum's software, which will allow much more stuff than before, like some of the Requested Features (maybe even rejected ones). This is also the reason why no changes are made gradually, but everything will happen all at once.
Over the last few years Sam and others have leaked several titbits what will and might come. But I can't think of any specific ones.
But if I remember correctly, some are mentioned in the New Tag System-Discussion you linked.
